My mum moved to Whitegates in January. The room she has is lovely, always clean and comfy. The staff are all very friendly and do their best to help Mum with all her day-to-day problems. It is so good to know Mum is safe day and night.

Mum is well cared for at Whitegates.
The staff are kind and courteous and they all seem dedicated to caring for the residents. Mum's room is always clean and tidy. When visiting I am always made very welcome and never feel that I am in the way.

Whitegates does a fantastic job. The staff have a wonderful relationship with my mother and the care they provide is faultless. She has a lovely sunny room and although she is not able to participate in activities, they are always on offer. The food is very good too!

I went away a few times in June 2022 and never once had to worry about my husband. He's been in Whitegates more than 13 years and would not want to be anywhere else. He knows all the staff, and (importantly) they know him well and cope with his moods and occasional aggression. He is always clean and
well-presented, and the staff attend fairly quickly when he needs help. They are unfailingly patient with him and actually seem to care, not just because they are paid to do so.

No problems at all. My husband has been in Whitegates for over four years and has been very well cared for all the time. He can be difficult, but he is clean, in spite of his dislike for water. His toenails are a respectable length (full marks to those who managed it!) and he has a continual supply
of 'Hot sweet tea'.

My nan has only been at Whitegates for a couple of months, but so far our experience has been positive! She has a lovely bright and clean room and has been made very welcome. She has settled in quicker than we expected and all the staff have been wonderful in helping her to settle into her new home
with such kindness, care and support.

My Dad has been in Whitegates for over 3 years and the later part of that has been very trying for everyone due to the pandemic and my health. I've been so grateful for the care and diligence the home has provided for my Dad and other residents. Which is such a relief as being a former carer in the
community, letting someone else care for my Dad is an ongoing worry for myself, but eased knowing that Whitegates is doing their job well.

My mother remains very happy at Whitegates. She has been there for over a year now. It took time for her to adjust to leaving her own home, although it had become inevitable. We have complete trust that she is well cared for, the staff are unfailingly helpful and caring. They are what makes it, and
enabled her to feel safe and content, facilities are also good. It has the feel of a home and definitely not an institution. Despite restrictions over the past year or so, everyone did their best to keep residents safe and that has paid off with people remaining as healthy and active as can be expected.

My Dad went into Whitegates for respite care almost two years ago and became a permanent resident shortly afterwards. He has a rare form of dementia which isn't easy to understand or deal with, but every step of the way Whitegates management and staff have done their best to understand and help not
just him, but also us. Their care is attentive and kind. They have made my father feel like one of their family and despite all the emotional difficulties of putting him into residential care (and it's never an easy decision) I feel very confident leaving him in their hands. They have been exceptionally good during Covid 19, going above and beyond to keep residents and staff safe, but also doing their very best to maintain family contact in difficult circumstances.

Mum has lived at Whitegates for almost 2 years and is settled and content. She always says how good the meals are.
The staff are unfailingly kind and cheerful, the home efficiently run, the rooms and gardens are excellent.
There has always been an exceptional programme of activities and outings -
this has obviously been curtailed during the last few months, but there is still a variety of in-house activities, and visits have been carefully and safely managed.
My sisters and I are very pleased that we found Whitegates for our mother. She is safe and cared for.

My Dad first went to Whitegates for respite care due to his declining health and I couldn’t be happier with the care and support he has received there and he is now a full-time resident. It is well run with friendly staff and offers a lot more than other homes I looked into and I highly recommend Whitegates.

My sister-in-law's dementia does not allow her to voice or write an opinion. I try to visit her every five days, which means I can only have a superficial impression of the aspects listed, hence the 'good' rather than 'excellent' ratings in some instances. However, if there has been any sort of practical
problem which needed sorting, there has been real cooperation on the part of the staff. As always, the kindness shown towards the residents by the staff is exemplary.

When we were viewing care home for my mother, we were pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome we received at Whitegates Care Home. My mother was happy to move in and has received excellent care over the last 4 years. As my mother's care needs have changed, the staff have adapted to cater for them fully,
whilst preserving my mother's dignity. Staff have been extremely caring and supportive of us as a family. Unreservedly recommended.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.874)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.874) out of 10 for Whitegates is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.974 for Whitegates is calculated as follows: ( (184 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 189 Ratings = 4.974
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Whitegates is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 37 registered maximum number of service users is 7.4, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
