  • Care Homes Owned by Herefordshire Care Homes
For the Herefordshire Care Homes' owner, exceptional care has always been about people, about ensuring that every person who lives in a care home is truly recognised, valued and respected for who they are, not defined by age, diagnosis or dependency.

Holding a Master’s Degree in the Management of Health and Social Care Services from the University of Birmingham, the owner's career has been shaped by a relentless drive to raise standards across the care sector. Before founding Herefordshire Care Homes, she spent several years inspecting care homes specialising in improving quality.

Herefordshire Care Homes represents the culmination of this lifelong commitment and the personal vision that grew from it. A care home must be a positive life experience: a place where older people can continue to live with dignity, purpose and joy, supported by teams who truly know them as individuals.

That vision has translated into extraordinary outcomes. Five of the homes are rated “Outstanding” by CQC (January 2026) - the highest possible rating giving Herefordshire Care Homes the highest proportion of Outstanding-rated homes in England, placing them in the top percentage and making them the only care homes in Herefordshire to achieve this standard.

These accolades are not the end goal, but the result of something deeper: a culture where compassion leads, standards never stand still, and every person is recognised, always, as a person first.

My dear friend lived at Whitegates for a few years following a long stay at hospital. The care he had was nothing short of miraculous. We didn't expect him to be with us for long, but with the love and care he received, he learnt to walk again and regain control over his life. Thank you to the incredible
staff for everything you do.

Dulas Court is a fantastic care home set in incredible grounds which provide a wonderful and stimulating environment. I have visited on a number of occasions and have particularly noted the caring atmosphere and focus on person-centred care. The home and grounds themselves are maintained to a very high
standard, as well as wonderful staff who are incredibly friendly and kind, in addition to going above and beyond to ensure residents care and happiness. The food always smells incredible too!

Mum has been a resident at Charnwood for 3 years now, and considers it her home. She feels safe and well cared for, and we, as her family, are extremely grateful for the love and care shown to her. On visiting her, we are always shown a warm welcome and know we can address any issues we may have surrounding
mum's health with the care home manager and nursing team. Mum especially enjoys joining in with the activities which are ably provided by Bev, who encourages those who are able to, to join in. A big thank you to all the staff who make Charnwood such a special care home.

Hazelhurst Nursing Home

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My mother, who has dementia, has been resident at Hazelhurst for nearly 2 years. It is a testiment to every single member of staff that, despite the fact we are moving some distance away, she will be staying at Hazelhurst. Hazelhurst has become a second, cherished home for her, her daily and weekly
routines ensure she has a secure and safe environment she is familiar with, but also multiple opportunities to take part in activities in and outside the home. Hazelhurst has provided a new, extended family. The food is fantastic, we spent Christmas Day there and enjoyed a fabulous meal! Communication is excellent, we are kept abreast of any issues medically/mentally and offered the opportunity to take part in house, dementia awareness meetings and various seasonal activities. The care staff are warm, friendly, polite, respectful, skilled and professional. Angela has also particulalry benefitted from the presence of beautiful gardens, gardeners and their dogs! A truly exceptional Care Home.

Our family couldn't be happier with the care my grandma has received over the past year. The home is always clean and tidy, which gave us peace of mind from day one. What has surprised us most is the food. Grandma has always been a very picky eater, but she absolutely loves the meals here! She also
really looks forward to the outings, being taken out to enjoy the local scenery has made a huge difference in her happiness. It's wonderful to see her so content and well cared for.
Reply from Charlotte Whittington, Home Manager at Hazelhurst Nursing HomeThank you for your lovely review. My Mum was admitted to Hazelhurst a year or so ago, by the NHS, for end of life care. She was literally wasting away and had lost the will to even eat. Very sad.
Truly could have just slept away at any time.
From day one Hazelhurst did everything they could to make her as comfortable and dignified
as possible. They tried everything they could to nourish her and help her to start eating again. Her mental health was very poor when she arrived too.
But the genuine care and great nursing skill at Hazelhurst, gradually brought her back to us. They literally saved her life!
She is now very happy there, eating full normal delicious meals and enjoying quality social time with other residents and has even been able to restart attending Church most weeks in Ross-on-Wye.
Visitors are also made genuinely welcome, even at meal times. I've had a number of delicious meals there with my Mum, totally free of charge.
This home is exceptional! And the house, gardens and location are beautiful.

Mum has been at Hazelhurst now 6 months. What a lovely place to call home! The staff are so caring and friendly, always have time for you. The food is delicious and plentiful (mum loves the cakes!). Mums mobility is suffering now but with the help of Vish (the Physio ) she is up and about, doing a bit
each day. The accommodation is comfy and homely, with mums photos around makes her feel more secure. If I am worried about anything to do with mum, whether it be medical or emotional there is always someone to support me as well as mum. We looked at a couple of places before mum went to Hazelhurst, so glad we chose the right one. Thank you to all the staff for caring so much.

Hazelhurst is a wonderful place! My grandmother moved to hazelhurst for what we thought would be palliative care, with the dedicated assistance from all of the wonderful staff she is now thriving 14 months later.
Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, they provided a wonderful birthday tea party

Every time we visit, the home is beautifully decorated, clean and everyone is extremely welcoming.

Charnwood Country Residence for the Elderly is amazing, the care, love and support they give to the residents is phenomenal. All staff go above and beyond in making sure that the residents are comfortable, supported, have well nutritional meals. Lyndsey - Manager of Charnwood and various other staff
are amazing in greeting the family members of the resident that is visiting the home, always a smiling face + giving a warm welcome.
Residents are always kept active on a daily basis which again Bev - Activities Coordinator goes above and beyond in making sure each resident is involved and again the care and support she gives is magnificent to each of the individuals. If I had a family member that needed 24 hour care, I wouldn't hesitate in sending them into Charnwood for the rest of their life, knowing they will be looked after, loved and have the security they need. Charnwood Country Residence is certainly the best, all the awards they receive is certainly deserve.

I cannot speak highly enough of Charnwood Care Home and the exceptional care my uncle receives there. From the moment he arrived, it was clear that this is a place where residents are genuinely cared for, respected, and treated with dignity.

The staff are outstanding - kind, patient, attentive, and

always willing to go the extra mile. Nothing ever feels like too much trouble, and they take the time to really know each resident as an individual, not just a name on a list. My uncle is always spoken to with warmth and compassion, which gives our whole family great reassurance.

The home itself is clean, comfortable, and welcoming, with a calm and positive atmosphere. There is a real sense of community, and it's clear that residents' wellbeing, happiness, and safety are the top priorities. Communication with family members is excellent, and we are always kept informed and listened to.

Reply from Lindsay Hagley, Manager at Charnwood Country ResidenceThank you so much for such a meaningful and heartfelt review.
