Mom has not been there long and this is our first experience of care but is very happy and, above all, she is safe. The staff are all very friendly and always make you feel welcome and nothing seems to be too much bother, even when they're busy they will always answer questions. I feel very lucky to
have got my mom into Chandos Lodge Care Home having looked around other facilities and care settings. I always manage to get an appointment to see Mom or take her out and it's so much easier with the aid of the family log-in system to just be able to book myself in and a guest. She has been able to bring some things in from home for her bedroom which I know she loves to look at the photos we sent in. The security is very good, no one can just wander in and out which is very reassuring as mom's dementia gets worse it's definitely a big plus for me, also I'm kept informed of what's going on e.g. if the dentist is coming.

My twin sister has been living in Chandos Lodge Care Home for four years. At that time she was suffering from Alzheimer's and was not only bad-tempered but wandering off all the time. I was living abroad but I came back to the UK for two weeks to try and find somewhere for her. I chose Chandos after
viewing five other care homes and have never regretted it. She appeared to change overnight once she was in there, reverting back to her previous happy self. I am back living in the UK and can now see her regularly and despite the fact she no longer knows who I am it is still a pleasure to go and see her. The staff at Chandos are all very welcoming - I am sure they know every visitor's name. They have always kept me fully informed even when I was abroad. Perhaps the highest accolade I can give them is what my sister said two weeks ago. We were in the conservatory when she suddenly said "Can I go back in with my family now". So Chandos is family - you can't get better than that.

I am so happy with Chandos Lodge Care Home: the staff are kind and caring and know and care about the residents as people, not service users. I love that the manager sends me pictures and even arranges video calls as phone calls get more difficult. The managers and staff are really good at keeping me
up to date as well. I can highly recommend Chandos Lodge.

My mother has been at Chandos Lodge Care Home since May 2020, when she was admitted as an emergency so we had no choice in selecting a care home. I can honestly say my sister and I could not be happier with the care she has received. Mum suffers with Alzheimer's and can be difficult at times but we
are always kept informed. It was awful at the beginning, not being able to visit, but now we are made welcome whilst still following Covid rules to keep the residents safe. Mum is very confused but enjoys little trips out with me for tea and cake. I have learned so much about dealing with a loved one with Alzheimer's from watching how the care team deal with her and the relief of knowing she is so well cared for 24 hours a day. I cannot praise the team enough for what they do for my mother and the relief from anxiety experienced by me and my sister when dealing with her in her own home. It is an extremely difficult decision to make but at Chandos, I have no hesitation to recommend the service provided.

Mum was moved to Chandos Lodge Care Home pre-Covid.
She is well looked after and always meets me with a smile.
The home keeps me well updated on her well-being.
Can not praise the hard-working staff enough. I would definitely recommend Chandos Lodge to anyone.

My mother came to Chandos Lodge Care Home from hospital. After a fall she was really frail and when she went to the care home she was made very welcome by the manager and the team, which picked her up and gained her strength back.
Everyone there is so friendly, helpful and made Mom feel like part
of the family.
Thanks so much all.

A very poor experience, mainly with the manager at the home.
Rooms need updating - poor standard.
Team leader - very professional and helpful.
The new lounge looks nice and peaceful, but residents seem to spend more time in the dining room.
Food - evening meal - a bowl of scrambled egg - nothing
else offered for a soft diet.
Some staff seemed to be on mobile phones a lot.
No real customer service skills were observed and no interest in the personal holistic information that was given and had been collated - poor response dismissive.
Customer service - left to move in without any help - even had to move the bed ourselves out of the room to a storage room with no assistance.
Letter of complaint to head office 6th September- no response ever received back - so the company as a whole seems uninterested in client feedback.
Reported other issues to CQC.

My nan is very happy here and I feel she is very well looked after and the staff have always got a smile on their face and very helpful. And very good idea how the greeting room is accessible from the car park to save going through the building!

My mother-in-law went in for emergency respite, the manager, deputy manager and the team were excellent and so kind to her. They communicated with us well too. My mother-in-law described her stay as comfortable and enjoyable, with excellent food. She has even asked for future respite to be at Chandos
Lodge Care Home. Thank you to all of the team.

My father had nine days respite at Chandos Lodge Care Home. The manager was welcoming, bubbly and kind. Dad was very comfortable and all staff were very kind and helpful to him. When he came home he told me he had a great time. Loved the food and was given loads of fluids. The place was always clean
and tidy. It made me feel happy to see how comfortable and happy he was and he said he will go back there anytime.

What can I say, the staff are always very helpful and often go that extra mile to reassure and help. During the last 12 months of what we all know has been a very difficult and testing time, the staff have been wonderful to my mother and if I have any questions, they have answered them very quickly.
Throughout the last 12 months, I have been comforted by the knowledge that my mother is being well cared for and I have to say, looks in better health now than before the pandemic.
I would like to put on record my thanks to all the staff at the Chandos Lodge.

Professional, full of fun, humour and compassion. Words I use to describe the Chandos management and staff. Mum went to Chandos in May 2020, right in the middle of covid lockdown. As a result, visits were (rightly) restricted but the Chandos team welcomed Mum as one of their own and despite her illness
and challenges, they surpassed themselves. They have also supported the family, ensuring telephone contacts, visits (where possible) and video of Mum's room and photos were available. Well done, Chandos!

My mother was placed with Chandos Lodge as a temporary measuring while the council organized a care package to support her recovery at home. This ended up being 5 weeks and during this time, thanks to the care of the home she made an excellent recovery meaning that she now needs little care from the
council team. I would like to thank all the staff and management for their help during mum's stay and it meant she returned home with mixed feelings; sad at leaving the lovely staff behind.

My 93-year-old mum was in a sorry state before she became a resident at Chandos Lodge. She had spent two months in hospital following a fall. This followed many months of struggling to cope in independent living. She was very unhappy, lonely and confused. Chandos Lodge has given her a new lease of life.
She is happier than she has been for years. Physically she looks amazing. This is down to the care, expertise and dedication of the staff. I have total confidence in the staff. They have kept me fully informed of my mum’s progress. Communication has been consistently excellent. They have taken a calm and inspirational approach to caring for the residents during the current COVID-19 pandemic, at a time when the country is in lockdown. I have nothing but praise for everyone working in Chandos Lodge. My heartfelt thanks for giving my mum safety, security, friendship, love and a quality of life that she hadn’t experienced for a very long time.

I was really impressed with Chandos Lodge, the staff checked who I was before letting me in and explained about signing in and the use of hand gel (plenty of which was provided). Then showed me to the person I was visiting.
The staff were friendly it felt like I had entered into a family home no smell
of urine. They helped the less able to drink and encourage them to eat and drink. Whilst I visited a drink was knocked over and they immediately took the soaked person back to their room to change their clothes. They have a fantastic activities person who gets everyone involved and it was lovely to hear staff and clients laughing together. I would be happy to place a member of my family here.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.799)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.799) out of 10 for Chandos Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.974 for Chandos Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (150 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 154 Ratings = 4.974
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Chandos Lodge is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
