  • Ravenhurst Residential Care Home, Stourport-on-Severn
With a long-serving team of devoted staff, many of whom have been at Ravenhurst for over 15 years, it truly feels like a warm, family home.

As well as providing residential and dementia care, they offer respite care breaks, which can be pre-booked in advance. These are perfect for carers who look after loved ones at home, who would like to book a short break themselves, knowing their loved one is in safe hands.

Ravenhurst has a fully enclosed, central courtyard garden, bursting with flowers and plants. Many of the bedrooms have direct patio access to the courtyard, which is a real focal point for summer gatherings. There is a raised pond and planters, for residents who enjoy gardening.

The team are what makes this home feel special, and they follow Sanctuary Care’s unique Enriching Lives framework, based on the six senses people need to be fulfilled and happy – a sense of security, belonging, continuity, purpose, achievement and significance.

There are so many activities for residents to enjoy, including regular trips out in the minibus to garden centres, Hereford Cathedral and other local attractions. Residents often visit Sanctuary Care’s Westmead home in Droitwich, as part of a friendship group, and vice versa. The residents love getting together to enjoy games and companionship.

Ravenhurst has its own choir and history group, run by one of the residents. And there are crafts, cocktails, cheese and wine evenings, gardening, games, reminiscence activities, gentle exercise sessions and so much more to enjoy.

The home-cooked food, prepared by a chef who has worked at the home for 20 years, is delicious. From roast dinners with all the trimmings and fish and chip Fridays, to home baking every day for afternoon tea.

As well as the main lounge, there are lots of cosy and welcoming quiet spaces for residents to relax with loved ones, who are welcome to visit whenever they like.

Having lived as a widow in sheltered accommodation for 32 years, my 95-year-old mother in law was understandably reluctant to embrace the relative structure imposed within a community living environment. It was a traumatic experience for her and irrespective of the thoughtful, dignified and thoroughly
professional intervention by health workers, the emotional stress experienced by family members having to acknowledge the need for their mother/granny/great granny to move into residential care is emotionally burdensome.

The manager orchestrated a sensitive and comforting transition to Ravenhurst; being close to our home means that over the intervening 19 months, she has received almost daily visits. My family cannot speak highly enough of the management and staff. Through their key worker system, we have ready access to all documents pertaining to her and the manager/deputy manager is always available to discuss any issues. The care workers generate a relaxed, happy and stimulating atmosphere and are diligent in meeting the residents' cognitive, emotional and physical needs. The quality of care is recognised by excellent inspection reports and, at a time when social care does not always enjoy good press, we are eternally grateful that she is safe and very well cared for.

All staff and management are friendly and welcoming providing a very warm, happy home to residents and visitors. They are willing to help at any time, very informative when asking any information on my mother's well being. Giving support to help each other to give my mother the best for her well being.
The food is excellent and a variety of fresh fruit is always available. It is fresh, clean and very well looked after.

The care home looks after me very well. I would rather be in my own home but cannot fault the care I receive and especially the food which is very good. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff.

Mum remains comfortable and happy in the care home.
She has a lovely group of friends that all show concern is she is not feeling 100%. The staff are extremely helpful and kind -recently mum's arthritis has been troubling her, so they have organised a zimmer frame and I am able to borrow a wheelchair
when I take her to hospital appointments.
Both mum and I are very happy with the care and respect she gets.

more could you want? Thank you Ravenhurst Residential Care Home. My brother suffers from Parkinson's disease.

My dad never wanted to go into "a home". This became necessary when my mum passed away 7 months ago. He now says how happy he is and that "they all look after me". As a visitor, I always find all the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. They treat my dad as a person and not just a number. The
home is decorated throughout as a "home from home.". It never feels regimented and if my dad is not eating, they will always cook him one of his favourite meals - usually an omelette!

The care home does a good job of looking after my mother. She has dementia and is struggling to adapt to living in a care environment. The staff are patient and caring and although my mother doesn't always see this in her more lucid moments she says they are very good.

My mother became a resident at Ravenhurst following a stay in hospital after multiple falls. Her dementia was progressing at this time making it more and more difficult for me to take care of her. She has been living at the care home for four years now and the love and attention has been wonderful.
I have just returned from a month long stay with my son and knew that she would be well cared for. She didn't notice I'd been away! This home was recommended to me by a friend of a resident and I would not hesitate to recommend to others.

Our relative first came to the home for a trial period when she came out of hospital while assessing if she was able to return to her home. Ravenhurst was initially chosen for it's proximity to us and availability of places but she decided to stay permanently when she realised she needed full-time care.
This decision was a large part due to the high level of care she received at the home.
The care staff and receptionist are always friendly and helpful. Whenever we visit, any member of staff is always able to tell us where she is, what she's doing and how she is. We've observed the staff treating all residents with courtesy, respect, patience and above all, good humour! The menus are varied and seem to have good quality of food. We've also been impressed with the range of activities put on, including a dog show, pony visit, services and nail/hair treatments. We can't fault it!

I was very concerned when my sister needed to stay in a care home. She couldn't walk even with help. I needn't have worried. She is cared for very well. The carers are excellent, the comfort is good and the meals are prepared very well and appetising. The ladies at reception are always helpful and welcoming.
I would recommend Ravenhurst Residential Care Home to any of my relatives and friends.

Since my mum moved into the above care home I've been very impressed with the overall care and quality of care provided.
Bearing in mind that I go there every day I consider the care provided to my mother and the other residents of a very good standard. The staff deserve a special mention I myself
consider them all to be first class.

We have been really pleased with the sensitive care and attention that the staff have bestowed upon my mum. She is well fed and all her requests for information have always been responded to in a detailed manner. Her room is very comfortable and kept clean and tidy. The furniture is new and of high
quality. My mum has made the transition from sheltered accommodation (for 33 years) to residential care very successfully and although she would rather be at "home", she recognises that she is safe at Ravenhurst Residential Care Home. We cannot thank the management and staff for all their excellent work, they treat her with dignity and respect.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.574)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.574) out of 10 for Ravenhurst Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.774 for Ravenhurst Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (82 Excellents x 5) + (24 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.774
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ravenhurst Residential Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 10 = 0.9
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
