  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.333 for Doddlespool Hall is calculated as follows: ( (15 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 4.333

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.056 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Doddlespool Hall is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.5

    2. Target of 5.4 positive Reviews (27 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 3 Reviews ÷ 5.4 Target = 0.556

This care home is well run overall. Staff are very caring of residents and welcoming of relatives and other visitors.

The ongoing renovation of the home is transforming the physical surroundings to a really good standard. The changes to the various rooms are in keeping with the original style of the building, whilst at the same time bringing the facilities into the 21st century.

The introduction of daily activities in the afternoon means that residents are stimulated and occupied in a meaningful and productive manner.

All in all, since the new owners took over this care home, there have been marked improvements in all areas.

My husband and I are extremely happy with the care that my mother-in-law is receiving. All staff from the carers to the cooks and the cleaning staff and the management make her feel at home. They are all there for her every need. Knowing my mother-in-law is happy in her home from home is a comfort to us.

Overall my views of Doddlespool are very positive. Rooms are in need of attention but the improvements scheduled should address this.
The care of my mother is good. She is always happy when I visit and has never had any complaints.
It is hard to say if the home is value for money as the fees have risen considerably recently which is worrying when you are self-funding.
