After 12 months of fighting the system trying to convince hospitals/ GPs that Mum had the start of Dementia Dover Cottage came to our rescue. The Manager visited Mum in hospital as part of the resident intake process, she immediately recognised what we had been saying for the last 12 months. From the
moment Mum became a resident at Dover Cottage she was welcomed and cared for as was all her family. Their care and compassion extended to us all. They are all very hands on caring for their residents and we all immediately felt like part of the Dover Cottage family. A big weight was lifted from our shoulders knowing that Mum was being looked after in the manner that any person deserves. Unfortunately Mum's stay was brief due to her passing away. During this time all staff exceeded our expectations and supported us with our grief. We cannot thank them all enough, they are an amazing team of carers and we would have no hesitation in recommending them. Thank you.

My grandma has been at Dover Cottage for over eighteen months during the Covid-19 pandemic. The decision of moving her from her own home was extremely difficult for our family, however illnesses with her husband, my grandfather, and the safety of being at home alone led to a hard decision of looking
for a residential home for her to live in. Dover Cottage was local to us as a family which meant when restrictions eased we could visit more often. The management team are excellent and always keeping us informed about her care needs. She settled in really quickly with the staff and residents and always looks well looked after when we visit. She always says she's happy which is the main thing. She enjoys the beautiful range of fresh meals every day and there are always plenty of activities going on, even guest musicians and garden parties to celebrate birthdays and special occasions. The rooms are home from home and personalised for each resident. The staff look after her like she is part of their own family.

Mum has lived at Dover Cottage throughout the difficult times of Covid. I am so glad we made the hardest decision to move Mum here. The staff feel like an extension of our family. They know and respond to Mum's needs and we are kept well informed at all times. Her health is closely monitored and staff
are able to quickly recognise any need for medical intervention and act swiftly. Mum is always clean and tidy. She enjoys the activity sessions and residents' birthdays are always celebrated, with banners, balloons and a sing-song. Meals are well balanced and nutritious, prepared and served by a friendly kitchen team. The home is well led by a dedicated manager who shows respect to her staff and works together with them to provide a homely caring atmosphere within the home.

My mother has been at Dover Cottage for two and a half years, therefore all through lockdown. This was obviously an extremely difficult time for residents, staff and relatives. However, Dover Cottage went above and beyond to ensure relatives were able to stay in contact with loved ones, either by window
visits, garden visits, FaceTime or telephone calls, which were absolutely vital at this difficult time. Mum loves joining in with the variety of activities, games and pampering which are provided on a regular basis. She is supported by carers who know her, her likes and dislikes and who she trusts. The home is extremely well led by a manager who is respected and valued by both staff and relatives. On a daily basis, all the staff not only do an excellent job caring for and providing for the residents but take them into their hearts... and it shows.

We have been going through a difficult time at the moment, we as a family feel happy that our loved one is well cared for and couldn't have managed without the help of the home. It's nice to know he is safe and well looked after, thank you to all the staff.

My mother-in-law was moved to Dover Cottage about ten months ago after my partner and I needed more support with her care. It was a very hard decision to make and my partner (her son) found it and still finds it very upsetting, however, we definitely chose the best home for her. The staff at Dover Cottage
are all so friendly and it really is like a home from home with it being such a small, personal setting the residents really do get the best care and you get familiar with the other residents during visits too which is lovely.
Since moving in, my mother-in-law is so much happier and well cared for, her personal hygiene has improved massively and we know she is receiving fantastic care. The staff all keep good communication and are easy to talk to. They organise events for both residents and family which is lovely, as well as great daily activities for the residents. They always make a nice fuss of each individual on birthdays etc which again, is a really personal touch.

Like most people who are looking to make a decision on putting their loved ones into a care home, I was very apprehensive at the start to move my mother away from her home, where she lived in for many years.
Right from the start of the process this genuinely loving team of people at Dover Cottage made
us and my mother feel at ease. What most people look for is their loved ones to be cared for in the same way as they are at home. In Dover Cottage we really found this. This team cared for my mother as one of their own.
The whole team at Dover Cottage are dedicated to providing not only a care service but a friendly family environment where they take into consideration not only the care of the loved one but also take into account how this affects the extended family.
Nothing is too much trouble for this team, it is more than a job for them. Thank you Dover Cottage team. Amazing people.

My mother lived at Dover Cottage for several months after not being able to continue to live in her own home. The move to Dover Cottage for my mother was not an easy decision for the family to make. However, it quickly became apparent that my mother was in a much better place than she would be at home,
her safety and welfare needs were priority for us, and what the Dover Cottage management and support staff did gave the family instant relief that the decision to move Mum was the right one.
There truly are some amazing care staff at the rest home, who really do treat loved ones like a member of their own family. The care home is operated by a manager who really is very much a people person. I cannot thank the staff and management for the care they provided for our late Mum.

My father in law recently moved to Dover Cottage. We were a bit concerned as to whether or not he would like his new home and be able to fit in with his new surroundings. But the carers there made him very welcome and he seems very happy there.
The carers, apart from looking after everyone with there
daily needs, find time for a cuddle and smile for everyone and make them all feel at home and at ease.
My wife, whose father it is, takes great comfort in knowing he is being looked after very well so she doesn't have to worry about him being unhappy.
He always looks nice and clean and dressed nicely, the food is good and the kitchen staff do an excellent job giving a good variety of meals, so we would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a nice family feel place for their elderly loved ones.

Current Review Score: 8.2 (8.238)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.2 (8.238) out of 10 for Dover Cottage Rest Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.2 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 5.000 for Dover Cottage Rest Home is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.238 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Dover Cottage Rest Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 21 registered maximum number of service users is 4.2. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 4.2 = 0.238
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
