Overall Experience

My mum has been at Highbarrow for over 4 years now. In that time she has received excellent care, & I never need worry about anything for her. The staff are amazing, & treat the residents like family.

My mum has come out of her shell, & now visits the lounge area daily, enjoying the company of staff & residents, & all of the entertainment provided. It's lovely to see photos & videos of her joining in, be it singing along with the various singers they have in, stroking the animals that visit, or sitting outside in the sun enjoying an ice-cream. She smiles so much more, & seems genuinely happy herself.

When I go to visit mum, she is always presentable & has the added pleasure of receiving a weekly hair wash & blow-dry on-site, & having her nails painted (something she has always had done). It all helps her to feel "normal" despite not being in her own home.

Sounds cheesy, but I love it there for her, & I'm so happy we found Highbarrow as her forever home.

I had visited 10 residential homes unannounced to enquire about care for my father who has a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s and mobility problems. I walked out of 9 feeling hopeless but the 10th, Highbarrow felt right. The residents were enjoying an activity and there was laughter coming from one of the lounges. My dad has been at Highbarrow for 3 months. He is treated with dignity, compassion and respect. There is always plenty of staff on duty and dad sense of humour is still intact. The home is extremely well led by the Manager who leads by example. The home is very clean at whatever time I visit. Thank you for taking such great care of our loved ones.

All of our family are extremely happy with the care our family member is receiving at Highbarrow. The staff are caring and attentive, the lady in charge is always friendly and approachable. The activities lady is exceptionally good and the art which the residents have made looks really lovely and brightens the bare walls up. Our family member is very happy and settled there, he can at times be very difficult to manage and took a long time to settle in however they are now well-used to him and his mood swings, and these are becoming far less frequent. He is being looked after properly and much better than when he lived at home. His general health is usually good and he has benefitted greatly from all the social activities he has taken part in, particularly since prior to moving into Highbarrow he socialised with no one at all. The staff have helped improve his self-confidence and he has come out of his shell.

My only small complaint is that visitors don't receive refreshments.

Mum was in Highbarrow for nearly 5 years. She was in her nineties with Alzheimer's and dementia. The staff looked after her very well which made Mum very happy. She was always smiling or singing when I went to visit. It was the caring attitude that got Mum through a bad case of pneumonia and gave her an extra year. I will always be grateful for that. Thank you.

My mother was looked after by some of the nicest people we dealt with through such a hard time.
Mum had CJD and the staff at Highbarrow did everything they could to learn about the illness what they needed to do to make mums time as stress-free as could be.
They gave her a bath that had not been given to her by the hospital or her carers (her feet were so bad she had nails about an inch over the end of her toe) the staff organised a chiropodist to call in to ensure she was sorted there. then she had a hairdresser call. She was so happy and pleased.
The meals are cooked on site fresh ingredients cooked to a very high quality.

The team were amazing so nice so friendly and so caring.

Our Mother spent almost eighteen months at High Barrow, and although her Alzheimer’s Disease made her behaviour challenging at times, we were impressed by the standard of care delivered. Besides good professional care, an element of real concern and compassion was apparent. This attitude also applied to family and friends who visited. We are so grateful for Highbarrow’s contribution to Mum’s last days.
