Overall Experience
My wife went into full time care at Lower Meadow in early October of this year, having previously spent five weeks in respite care at another local care home. My family and I were more than impressed with the standards set by Lower Meadow having visited the home prior to my wife’s admission.

Despite the traumas of Alzheimer’s my wife could not be in a better environment and we are happy that she could not be receiving better care elsewhere.

Reply from Rachel Walker, Home Manager at Lower Meadow

Thank you so much for your insightful review. We take pride in having the best possible environment we can provide to our residents, and we are so appreciative to hear how satisfied you are with your wife's care.

Lower Meadow staff undoubtedly saved my mother’s life three weeks ago by responding very quickly to her medical emergency and initiating her admission to hospital for life saving treatment.
The staff are extremely kind and caring and respond with sensitivity to any questions or concerns our family may have. My mother is very content in Lower Meadows and speaks very highly of all the staff that care for her.
What a great team.

Thank you.

Generally, I am fairly happy with the level of care, although, I feel that there should be more carers. It can take a while for a response when we call on the room bell. Staff are very lovely. Food could be better.

Staff are all very friendly, helpful, caring and my nan has settled into Lower Meadow very well. The only issue we’ve come across is getting through to speak to her on the phone, often the phone isn’t answered or it's engaged, although I completely understand that there’s a lot to do in a care home especially with COVID-19.

It’s very hard with family members not being able to visit and see loved ones, which makes the phone calls all the more important.

During the current time with the Covid 19 situation, all the staff at Lower Meadow have been amazing. As a family, we have been kept fully informed of the situation, and the care Mum is receiving is amazing. Management are on the ball, and this shows throughout the home, the care and dedication all the staff have and give to residents is wonderful. Can't thank you all enough.

Overall Experience

Lower Meadow is excellent - clean, light, bright, warm - and the atmosphere relaxed and welcoming. It has wide corridors, spacious rooms, large windows allowing maximum daylight to flood the building, and each room with its own en-suite. A range of lounges, dining rooms, casual sitting areas, and even a café, gives residents a selection of locations as to where they can spend their time. But most importantly, ALL the staff (no matter what their job role) are just brilliant. They are thoughtful, friendly, cheerful, caring, and engaging but also very professional. My brother has been a resident there for 3 months, during which time the staff have taken extra time and trouble to ensure he settles well into his new home. I would definitely recommend Lower Meadow.

I visited my grandmother in December and I cannot rate the home enough. It was extremely clean and well presented as were the staff. They were extremely helpful and couldn’t have done enough for the residents and visitors. The management was amazing and very involved with the residents and visitors too. The atmosphere is like home from home and very relaxed which I think is a vital point for a care home.

Lower Meadow is beautifully set out, from the manager to the care staff, the care my stepdad receives is exceptional. The staff are polite, friendly and really do go above and beyond in the care that they give to all the residents. One care worker, in particular, is outstanding and makes you feel at home and nothing is too much trouble. I am so pleased my stepdad is at Lower Meadow and I would not hesitate to recommend it.

I had an invite to look around the home when it was refurbished and said at the time that it was the best and that view hasn't changed. The manageress showed my daughter and myself around when we dropped in with no appointment, and we were able to reserve a room for my husband. The staff were very welcoming, and we could see the residents were well cared for.
My family and I feel very lucky that there was a room for my husband. Since he has been at the home, he has been very happy to be there. All the staff and manager do all they can to make sure he's well looked after.

I can't praise the home enough. It's the best.

This is the first time my husband has ever been into respite. He was in 5 days and 4 nights and was treated with the utmost care and dignity. My husband says he would highly recommend it to anyone and so would I. The staff have been most helpful and friendly.

My mother has been here for about 6 weeks. The building is fresh, bright clean and welcoming. The staff are generally warm and friendly. There is an easy going family feel to the place. The cakes are wonderful but sometimes the dinners aren't great. They vary in quality sometimes very cheap puddings like Arctic Roll. You can do better than that. Occasionally staff use patronising terns of endearment.

My 101-year-old father had never had carers or been in a care home before. He was extremely anxious when his wife went into hospital and he had to go into respite care. Within 2 or 3 days he had 'settled' and come to terms with his situation and this was due to the staff at Lower Meadow helping and reassuring him, plus family and friends visiting.

His view of care homes has now changed and he would not be so anxious next time. We thank Lower Meadow for this! My father is back home with his wife to celebrate their 78th wedding anniversary this week.
