Anchor’s Heather Vale, in Hasland near Chesterfield, is a purpose-built home supporting up to 39 older people to live a comfortable lifestyle, as well as providing dementia care.

It is located within reach of local transport links and has a well-tended garden space for customers and their families to enjoy.

The home strives to deliver a range of residential care services, including convalescence care, respite care and long term care for those who can no longer look after themselves. Heather Vale continues to welcome new residents.

The Anchor care team gets to know customers and works with them to organise stimulating activities in the care home and local community, which match individual and group interests.

Each resident's individual needs are regularly assessed to ensure their care plans meet their lifestyle requirements. Meals are cooked fresh and from locally sourced and seasonal ingredients where possible by a highly trained Chef Manager and kitchen staff.

Both my care and my health was very well provided for. The food could not be faulted, and the staff were always kind and helpful. I certainly recommend this care home to anyone wishing to be really well looked after.

This was the first time I had accepted allowing my husband to go into care for respite. He loved his room, settled in straight away and thought he was in a holiday hotel. Everyone made us feel welcome and at home. I had peace of mind, and he had excellent care and enjoyed his stay. Would highly recommend.

My mum has been at the home for about 20 months now, the care she has received in that time has been fantastic. Her room is always clean and tidy and the staff always willing to care for, support and entertain the residents.
Any organisation is only as good as its staff and they are tremendous. They
have risen to the challenges presented by the virus and found ways of relative sand loved ones contacting with the residents.

Since my Mum has lived at Heather Vale Care Home, she has been looked after with no issues. This was a particularly tender time for my mum as she has always had a fear of moving into a care home, but the staff at Heather Vale made her move in as comfortably as possible and have looked after her with
special care since she joined them. The Covid restrictions have obviously made contact harder than it would normally be but Heather Vale has made every effort to let residents see or talk to their family as much as possible. This is via visits either side of glass and more recently, garden visits at a social distance and they have backed this up with Facebook messager video calls and phone calls. My mum is very happy at Heather Vale and has told me she is happy that she made the move, so that speaks for itself.

My aunt always had Heather Vale in mind for when she needed to leave her own home and is delighted to have a place. The home is secure with staff constantly having to stop what they are doing and open the main door but always do it with a smile.

I received the form Review Us at a difficult time when I am unable to visit Mum as usual due to COVID-19. The home has done very well to keep the home free of the virus but it is hard to gauge the atmosphere of the home or meet the new manager. Mum talks often of acts of kindness and helpfulness by
staff but she is experiencing lots of new and temporary faces who do not know her and this is a cause of anxiety for her. The problem with the time it takes to respond to the buzzer continues intermittently and this causes distress. I have expressed concerns about the activities to the team leader several times. Residents are given an interesting timetable and my Mum selects which of these she would like to go to. However, when she asks if they are taking place, often they are not. The room is well-appointed and my interaction with staff has always been positive. I do miss the relative meetings where concerns can be aired and also to assess whether these issues are experienced by others.

I do not have the words to express my depth of gratitude to all the staff at Heather Vale. Mum was in Heather Vale for 5 years before she recently passed away aged 94. The care was of a high order. All staff are warm, friendly, courteous and efficient. We could not have asked for more. Over those years
and indeed end of life they helped Mum maintain her dignity and catered to all her physical, emotional and social needs. They looked after us as a family too especially my sister who suffered early onset dementia. As a constant visitor, they were aware and went out of their way.
I am not concerned regards what any CQC report states. I can only advise on our own experience. We are so so grateful. I will not mention any individuals as all the staff, cleaners, handyman, Team Leaders were just so brilliant and caring.
Thank You Heather Vale. Mum would wish us to thank you from the bottom of her heart for all you have done. God Bless you all.

Without a doubt, Heather Vale care home is outstanding. From the warmth of the welcome you receive when you arrive to visit your loved one, the excellent care, kindness, interest and compassion extended to residents and their families, the fun and variety of activities for all to enjoy, the cleanliness
of the home and the absence of unpleasant smells, the varied and delicious food, the excellent accommodation with its light airy bedrooms, large enough for residents to rest and relax in private or entertain their visitors, its intimate dining rooms and lovely communal lounge, the beautifully maintained and accessible garden, to useful services like hairdressing and chiropody.


My father moved to Heather Vale in December 2017 and I visit him there several times a week. I know he’s safe and well cared for and we can spend quality father/daughter time together which is so important at this stage in his life. Thank you to all the staff for making this possible.

I have found most staff friendly and helpful in this 6 months of coming into the home. More, it always smells clean and tidy. They have some amazing entertainment now which I do take part in, end food is exceptional. Nutritional and choice is good. You can have a cup of tea when you want one. If I had
one thing to say that isn't positive is getting in/out of the building but I do take it that staff are busy.

Over the past six years, we have noticed a general decline in the quality of the care provided. Cost cutting seems more important than the care and comfort of the residents and there seems to be a lack of leadership. Care is hurried and at times terse. Food is boring and basic. Standards have definitely
fallen. We are disappointed.

Heather Vale is a very good care home where my mother-in-law has been for 3 1/2 years. Good bedroom and very good staff. One important issue as a visitor is gaining entry and exit from the building. We have to wait outside in the cold until staff hear the bell and let us in - for security reasons.


I

would suggest building a small porch outside the front door with an outer door kept unlocked and the inner door locked. This would help with keeping heat in and stopping a cold draught. There is already a canopy which could be built around.
