Holbrook Hall is a highly regarded care home in Holbrook, Belper. It is a splendid William and Mary period country house set in 4 acres of beautiful, well-stocked gardens.

In 1985 it was converted to a residential care home for the elderly containing 35 fine individual bedrooms, the majority with en-suite facilities/wet rooms and superb views across the adjacent gardens and beautiful countryside.

Holbrook Hall has had the pleasure to care for many people, from short-term respite care and daytime care to full-time residents.

Keeping their residents happy is of prime concern and as their Facebook page will vouch; they are forever thinking of different ways to entertain their guests.

Having lost her husband in Nov 2022, my Aunt lived on her own for over 2 years, becoming increasingly isolated and less able to go out without help, she made the difficult decision to leave her home of over 60 years to move closer to us.
We visited several homes and were impressed with Holbrook Hall
from the first minute. The staff welcomed us and showed us two rooms that were available. She came to stay there for a couple of days to see if it was for her, and she has never looked back. She has made new friends, learned new skills, no mean feat at 92 years of age. There is always something to take part in, or go to, or not if she doesn't fancy it. She definitely has a
much happier outlook now, and the care given by everyone at the home is second to none, we would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
Reply from Jaspal Swalli, Director at Holbrook HallThank you for your positive and detailed feedback. We are pleased to hear that Holbrook Hall made a strong impression from your initial visit and that the opportunity for a trial stay helped ensure the home was the right fit. It is particularly rewarding to know that she has settled so well, formed new friendships, and continues to engage in new activities at 92 years of age. Our team is committed to providing a supportive environment where residents can participate in a wide range of activities while always respecting individual choice. We are delighted to hear that her wellbeing and outlook have improved and that you have confidence in the standard of care provided.

The staff are always happy to help with any problems or situations regarding mum, (and there are plenty!). They recognise any medical problems if they arise and deal with them promptly by contacting the surgery connected to the Home. Staff are always available to talk with. They listen and offer advice
and act promptly if needed on any concerns I raise. The activities are very well organised by the activities officer, who is always very encouraging to residents who would otherwise be reluctant to join in, but always respectful of their wishes.
Reply from Jaspal Swalli, Director at Holbrook HallThank you very much for taking the time to share such detailed and positive feedback. We're really pleased to hear that you feel supported and listened to by our team, and that your mum's health and wellbeing are managed promptly and carefully. Working closely with our local surgery and keeping families informed is very important to us. We're also delighted that you've highlighted our activities programme - our activities coordinator takes great pride in encouraging residents to join in while always respecting their individual choices. Your kind words will be shared with the whole team and mean a great deal to us. Thank you for your continued trust.

My Mum was a resident at Holbrook Hall from July 2024 until her death in December 2025.
Her care was consistently excellent; delivered with kindness, compassion, respect and dignity. Particularly impressive was that the high standard of care was shown by everyone - not just the care staff, but the
cooks, cleaners, gardener, maintenance and managers. The activities are excellent - full of variety, lots of opportunity to get out and about, a real sense of community and always full of fun. Claire is brilliant!
A particular word about my Mum's last week - the staff at Holbrook were outstanding in their care of Mum and support for me. I literally could not have wished for better.
I would recommend Holbrook Hall to anyone considering a care home setting for their loved one; and give it 10/10 on all criteria.
Reply from Jaspal Swalli, Director at Holbrook HallThank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughtful and deeply moving feedback.
We were truly honoured to care for your Mum during her time with us, and we are incredibly grateful for your kind words about the care she received. Knowing that our team was able to support her - and you - with kindness, compassion, respect and dignity means a great deal to us.
Your recognition of the wider team will be especially appreciated. Our cooks, domestic staff, gardener, maintenance team, activities team and managers all take great pride in contributing to the wellbeing and sense of community within the home, and your words reaffirm how important every role is in delivering truly holistic care.
We are particularly touched by your comments about your Mum's final week. Supporting residents and their families at such an important and emotional time is something we take very seriously, and it means so much to know that you felt cared for and supported throughout.
Warmest Regards

I cannot fault the care given to Mum during her time spent at Holbrook Hall. The staff went above and beyond, they changed Mum's life for the good with their encouragement to keep mum going, helping her to join the daily activities and make new friends. Encouraging her to eat the lovely food, and putting
time and effort into special events such as birthdays and Christmas. Mum's final days were spent peacefully and calm. It is a home in all senses.

I dropped mum off at Holbrook Hall for a half day visit this week. We were made to feel very welcome immediately with friendly smiles and cups of tea. Mum thoroughly enjoyed the activities throughout the day and was particularly enthusiastic about a delicious lunch served with fresh vegetables. All
the staff were kindly and encouraging and mum loved meeting the residents. Thank you to everyone at Holbrook Hall for making mum's visit so enjoyable. She is looking forward to seeing you all again!
Reply from Jaspal Swalli, Director at Holbrook HallThank you for your feedback. We provide day care services as means of transition to those needing long term care and have found that in providing this service residents become familiar with the environment and with other residents including our staff team, which allows them and their families to make more informed decisions about long term care. We truly believe on making a difference to all those we care for. We are currently fund raising for our own in-house mini bus which will aid more trips outdoors, as this is the feedback we have received from our residents who thoroughly enjoy the outdoors. Holbrook Hall is a very friendly, caring place. When I arrived on Christmas Eve, in spite of the carers having their own Christmas plans they were all very friendly and helpful and I felt looked after immediately. Since then I have got to know many of the carers by name and they take their jobs very
seriously and are very well trained. I was pleasantly surprised by the freedom of choice regarding the food, I could have anything I wanted for breakfast. Lunchtime there is plenty of variety, well cooked and large portions if you so wish. For tea, there's soup and sandwiches and other choices too. Throughout the day the coffee and tea trolley comes around regularly. A cuppa in bed when waking is very much appreciated, so this was much better than living on my own and having to do everything for myself. The lady who runs the activities is very enthusiastic and full of ideas to keep us happily occupied. There's a large range of books to read and games to play that you can access at anytime.

I returned home last night after a couple of days visiting Dad in Holbrook Hall, and wish to record how amazing the care home is. Dad has lived there since July last year, and he is content and at peace, grateful for the care and attention of the staff, the plentiful and varied food, and also the beautiful
setting. When I visit he loves sitting in the conservatory looking out across the valley. The home is situated in beautiful grounds, and there were plenty of opportunities last summer for residents to enjoy sitting and walking in the gardens, and picnics too.
I am very grateful to all the staff for their loving care and attentiveness, going the extra mile, and always with a smile and cheerful disposition. The number and variety of activities that are laid on each day is amazing, the desire of the activities assistant being to make the lives of the residents as full and happy as is possible.
There is a lovely family feel to the home, and I thoroughly recommend it.

Having visited my Uncle for the first time over Christmas, I was thrilled to see how happy he was. He has developed some great friendships amongst the residents and staff. The staff really get my Uncle and his quirky personality, it's lovely to see that he's totally himself.
We were offered a drink
which was served with a plate of biscuits.
His room was great and very personal to him, with his pictures hung on the walls.
The home and staff were really above and beyond anything I'd expected.
I left the visit feeling very happy and thankful to all who make Holbrook Hall a great place to live.

Mum has been at Holbrook Hall since May 2024 and is very happy there. The facilities and environment at the home are very good, a range of menu options through the week, nice communal spaces where residents can relax and a lovely garden area. A lot of effort goes into organising a range of activities
for residents throughout each week, including entertainment, hobbies and trips out. Mum has made lots of new friends and really enjoys the daily social interactions with other residents and the carers. The staff and carers themselves are exceptional, working hard to make sure the residents are well looked after and dealing with individual requirements and requests. Knowing Mum is in a caring environment and is being well looked after is very comforting. We are very happy that Mum has settled into Holbrook so well and enjoy visiting and spending time with her in such a nice environment.

As a family we really appreciate everything Holbrook Hall Care Home provides for our father. It's great seeing him so happy and settled. A couple of years ago, as a family we were in a very different place having just lost my mum. We had been through a really difficult time. The staff at Holbrook Hall
Care Home could not have done more to help my dad settle in when he joined them 18 months ago. He has made a lot of friends, goes on plenty of trips and enjoys all the varied activities that are organised for the residents. He has his independence and is able to walk around the beautiful grounds, and the trips have been great. He's visited a local friendship group, the pub and the seaside to name a few. The staff work really hard to achieve all this, special mention to the member of staff who organises the activities, and to catering who even bake cakes for each resident to celebrate birthdays. For the first time in years we are able to relax knowing that dad is happy and safe.
Reply from Hannah Henshaw, Regional Manager at Holbrook HallA lovely review of our service which is testimony to the hard work of our loyal team; thank you! We focus on promoting the independence of our residents and support positive risk taking to ensure they are able to lead the lives they choose with the appropriate level of support as required. Our activities co-ordinator works tirelessly to ensure the activities schedule is jam packed full, with something for everyone. We recognise the importance of maintaining links with our local community and the benefits on resident wellbeing of getting out and about and doing everyday things like going to the DIY store to choose paint or visiting the library - or the pub! Best wishes from Holbrook Hall.

My mother-in-law comments on how lovely the staff are to her, how delicious the food is and she really loves the room she has. We are all so impressed with the quality of care she receives and all the activities that go on within the care home. I've noticed how tired my mother-in-law is because she
has been doing so many more things than she was used to in her own home and that has improved her mobility and her alertness. I was very impressed that in the first week she was taken out in the minibus to a community Centre which she told us all about. It is lovely to see what she has been doing on Facebook. I really appreciate the list of what activities there are to do each day which are varied and in some instances unusual!. My husband turned up with a friend to the cake and a cuppa event which they really enjoyed, it's a lovely way to involve everyone with some residents even making the cakes. A very caring care home.

Holbrook Hall administration and staff care for ALL the residents. They are quick to respond to emails and phone calls. The staff work incredibly hard to make sure care plans are followed and the needs of the residents are met and supported. The activities coordinator makes it her mission to include
all residents. She designs seasonal activities including music, outings, exercise, gardening, baking and guest speakers to enhance the daily living of residents. Facebook posts keep families informed. Monthly meetings provide residents input into their home. Meeting minutes are provided promptly to families. Holbrook Hall has undergone sympathetic refurbishment and cleanliness is a priority at the home.
My mum is settled and happy at Holbrook Hall which gives our family such a sense of relief. The administration team are responsive and very approachable. Holbrook Hall is such a lovely place to live your life, make new friends, participate in activities and enjoy the magnificent views.

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.813 for Holbrook Hall is calculated as follows: ( (332 Excellents x 5) + (56 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 395 Ratings = 4.813
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Holbrook Hall is based on 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 33 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have worked in adult social care for over 38 years, beginning my career as a Night Care Assistant. I developed skills both through life experiences and academic studies in health and social care which enabled me to progress to the role of a Deputy Manager and onto a Registered Manager, which I have been for over 8 years.

I believe that the key to managing a great care home is sound leaderships skills, excellent communication and candour and that anything is possible with risk management. I have bult solid professional relationships with residents and their families and external professional services.

Working in adult care is wonderful and I feel it is a privilege and honour that the residents at Holbrook Hall have allowed me into their lives. I work closely with staff and the residents so that their goals and milestones are achievable and help them to make magical memories they thought would be impossible, possible.

Job Title: Team Leader Joined: 2024

I am a dedicated Team Leader at Holbrook Hall, driven by a genuine passion for supporting and enriching the lives of older adults. While completing my full-time doctoral research in Chemistry, I worked as a part-time carer in the UK, gaining valuable experience across adult education, research, teaching, and the care sector. These combined experiences, together with my health and social care qualifications, have strengthened my professional practice and helped me build strong, trusting relationships with residents, families, professionals, and my care team.

My PhD research focused on developing neurosensors for brain-tumour detection and targeted drug delivery. Although my academic background is highly scientific, I find the greatest fulfilment in delivering compassionate, person-centred care.

Supporting elderly individuals who rely on our help brings me deep purpose and joy, and continues to inspire my commitment to adult care.
