Holbrook Hall is a highly regarded care home in Holbrook, Belper. It is a splendid William and Mary period country house set in 4 acres of beautiful, well-stocked gardens.

In 1985 it was converted to a residential care home for the elderly containing 35 fine individual bedrooms, the majority with en-suite facilities/wet rooms and superb views across the adjacent gardens and beautiful countryside.

Holbrook Hall has had the pleasure to care for many people, from short-term respite care and daytime care to full-time residents.

Keeping their residents happy is of prime concern and as their Facebook page will vouch; they are forever thinking of different ways to entertain their guests.

The home has a well-earned reputation for conforming to the highest standards of care, safety, comfort and cuisine and has the testimonials to prove it!

All of the staff do their best and more to take care of all residents and make time for one to ones where needed.
They provide activities, outings, exercise, hair and nails when wanted.
I looked at all of the care homes and found Holbrook Hall to be really homely and set in lovely grounds.
They have
also supported myself when trying to deal with my Mom's affairs.
A big thank you to everyone.
Reply from Hannah Henshaw, Regional Manager at Holbrook HallThank you for the lovely feedback. We not only endeavor to support our lovely residents but also understand the minefield that relatives face in acting on their behalf so wherever we are able, we provide literature and online links to sources of support and signpost relatives to external agencies where appropriate to ease the process. Outstanding without a doubt! Staff have always been friendly, supportive and helpful. The home gives a sense of caring and friendship that is welcomed.
It's also worth applauding the homes general management for ensuring the building had been maintained in an attractive and appropriate way.

I visited Holbrook Hall Care home a few times in December 2024 and saw how well the residents were cared for. The activities that are put on for them are fantastic and it was nice to see the residents joining in. The quality of the food they are served is also excellent. Every member of staff that I
saw was very welcoming and spoke lovely to all the residents. The residents that I spoke to all said what a lovely place it is and complimented many of the members of staff. It's a truly wonderful care home in a beautiful countryside setting.
Reply from Hannah Henshaw, Regional Manager at Holbrook HallThank you for the lovely feedback about our service, we will share this with our wonderful team. At Holbrook Hall, we recognise the positive impact that social interaction and stimulating activities have on our residents' well being. Our Activities Co-ordinator is a rare find and goes above and beyond to ensure that an extensive activities programme is in place to meet individual needs, no matter how small or diverse. Our team of experienced Cooks provide a home-cooked, seasonal menu which is devised with input from our residents to ensure that all dietary needs and preferences are catered for and we love to try new cuisine on our themed days. It's reassuring to hear that residents speak fondly of our dedicated staff and of the home, this is what we set out to achieve. Best wishes from Holbrook Hall.

The staff were so kind and very caring. It was so nice to see how happy my Mum
is at the Care Home. It's great that each day is filled with activities to suit all the residents. It was a joy to visit my Mum in such a lovely Home surrounded by such lovely caring staff. Our young children also enjoyed
it, it was especially nice for them to enjoy some fresh air in the garden with their Grandma and to play some board games back inside. It was a very enjoyable visit for us all!
Reply from Hannah Henshaw, Regional Manager at Holbrook HallThank you for your lovely review of our service. We are pleased to hear of your positive experience, that your loved one is happy and your children enjoy visiting too. We have quiet areas for residents to receive visitors and have stock of games and activities that can be shared too. Our sun room provides a tranquil place to chat, with beautiful views of our gardens and The Amber Valley below. We recognise the benefits of intergenerational activities and welcome local pre-school children into our home weekly to join in activities with our residents, whether it be quiet reading or energetic dancing, there's something for everyone. Best wishes from Holbrook Hall.

I regularly visit the home and see how happy the residents are in the beautiful environment at Holbrook Hall. The staff go above and beyond to help and care for the residents. It is a lovely environment and always very welcoming. The residents are kept busy with entertainment programs and social events.
Everyone
is looked after whatever their individual needs are. The staff work extremely hard to keep the residents happy.
Reply from Jaspal Swalli, Director at Holbrook HallThank you for your lovely feedback which has been shared with the management and staffing team. We really do create a home-from-home environment for all our residents. Our cooks serve up healthy balanced meals to suit all appetites and are forever trialling new menus to ensure a full variety is on offer. Our activities staff always ensure there is something on offer for all our residents so they are kept stimulated. Our grade 2 listed building affords various lounges where our residents can relax and enjoy looking over the spectacular views we are fortunate to have. Our vast gardens are well maintained for all to enjoy and soak up the sun. We have our own care home vehicle to take our residents out. At the request of our residents, we have scheduled a trip to the seaside in the coming weeks which we are all looking forward to. Warm Regards Dr Jaspal Swalli

From the moment I called Holbrook Hall and had a look around, in 2015, I knew it was going to be the right place for my brother. He had complex needs but that didn't bother the staff, they embraced him and were very patient with him. I found the Hall well kept, no smells, clean and tidy. The staff were
friendly and caring, they encouraged him to join in with the activities, and I thank my lucky stars my brother was very happy there, until his passing in May 2024.
I wish to thank all past and present staff for their care and understanding. I would have no qualms about recommending Holbrook Hall.
Thank you.

My mother passed away in June, and I want to thank everyone at Holbrook Hall for the way she was treated over the three years she lived there, but especially in her final weeks. The care and compassion shown to Mum, my family and me, have been second to none. Staff even visited Mum in their free time.
This made her and me feel like we were part of a special family unit. Something that the staff work hard to create on a daily basis. Thank you all.

Really disappointing respite stay at Holbrook Hall. Despite the assurance that Holbrook Hall is dementia friendly, they struggled with Mum as she was too active and tactile with the other residents and was not stimulated enough there. I often felt they were understaffed for the number of residents.
The dining room is packed with tables and big heavy chairs that residents struggle to move around with many residents with mobility issues and using walking frames.
Teacups have tiny handles, unfit for mum with dementia.
Management was unable to keep to their word for meeting us when we arrived for the first time in a care home setting, arrival was chaotic and unsupportive, mum was wandering around the garden alone and confused within an hour of our arrival whilst I was readying her room.
The staff were all really friendly, kind and helpful, the food always looked and smelt good, mum's room was always clean and her clothes clean. Overall not a great experience would not recommend Holbrook Hall.
Reply from Hannah Henshaw, Regional Manager at Holbrook HallThank you for sharing your views of our home; we value all feedback and use it to influence future changes and improvements to the service we provide to enhance the experience of our residents. Our dining room and communal areas have recently undergone a full refurbishment to improve facilities for residents and fixtures have been sourced in line with resident choice. We have specialist equipment and crockery available to meet the individual needs of people who have difficulties associated with sight, dementia and dexterity. Moving into a residential care setting and the change of environment can be unsettling for some people and at Holbrook Hall, we offer a trial period, during which time we work hard to build trusting relationships with individuals and continually monitor and assess their needs to ensure that the placement is suitable for all parties involved. Unfortunately, on this occasion, management was unable to be present due to an unexpected situation.

Beautiful, old building (extremely clean). No smells, except lunch! Gardens kept brilliantly. Greeted very warmly and helped my elderly mother. Shown to the conservatory where our relative was brought to us. All staff very friendly, smiley and helpful. We were offered a drink and told on another day
we could have a meal with our relative. She is very happy here and cannot speak highly enough of all staff.

My mum has been attending for the day following a period of illness and becoming more confused. The carers are all very friendly, and there is a very relaxed and positive feel to the home. The house and grounds are beautiful and there is plenty of space to sit somewhere quieter if you're not wanting
to join in with the other activities. The food is excellent. My mum really enjoyed the exercise class on a Friday morning and sitting in the conservatory chatting with some of the other residents.

Visited a neighbour who lived in our close, but after a stroke, moved to be nearer her son. The lady was known by all staff and knew their names which was good, does seem to have settled as well as expected. The lounge and library area looked inviting and pleasant. My step-mother in her 90s moved to Holbrook Hall in 2019 initially intended for a short period, however the pandemic eventually led to her staying long term. We feel she has been well cared for through ups and downs with her own challenges with her mental health, and staff have always been supportive,
have listened well to her, and encouraged her to take part in activities. The activity coordinator who has recently started has been particularly excellent. The setting is beautiful and it was so important for her to be able to walk outside, which once she was less able to do independently, was facilitated by staff. In her last months, she was able to remain in the home and be cared for throughout her end of life care for which we were very grateful. Thank you to all the staff.

The staff at Holbrook Hall are amazing and have worked hard to help my father to settle in, which has not been easy as he has struggled with the move from having independence to life in a care home. The Hall has a lovely ambience, and being an old building has character. The food is excellent and receives
praise from my father. The activities that the staff organise are numerous and help the residents to keep active both physically and mentally.

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have worked in adult social care for over 38 years, beginning my career as a Night Care Assistant. I developed skills both through life experiences and academic studies in health and social care which enabled me to progress to the role of a Deputy Manager and onto a Registered Manager, which I have been for over 8 years.

I believe that the key to managing a great care home is sound leaderships skills, excellent communication and candour and that anything is possible with risk management. I have bult solid professional relationships with residents and their families and external professional services.

Working in adult care is wonderful and I feel it is a privilege and honour that the residents at Holbrook Hall have allowed me into their lives. I work closely with staff and the residents so that their goals and milestones are achievable and help them to make magical memories they thought would be impossible, possible.

Job Title: Team Leader Joined: 2024

I am a dedicated Team Leader at Holbrook Hall, driven by a genuine passion for supporting and enriching the lives of older adults. While completing my full-time doctoral research in Chemistry, I worked as a part-time carer in the UK, gaining valuable experience across adult education, research, teaching, and the care sector. These combined experiences, together with my health and social care qualifications, have strengthened my professional practice and helped me build strong, trusting relationships with residents, families, professionals, and my care team.

My PhD research focused on developing neurosensors for brain-tumour detection and targeted drug delivery. Although my academic background is highly scientific, I find the greatest fulfilment in delivering compassionate, person-centred care.

Supporting elderly individuals who rely on our help brings me deep purpose and joy, and continues to inspire my commitment to adult care.
