Holmewood is located on the outskirts of the busy town of Chesterfield, nestled at the heart of the community alongside its sister home, Barnfield.

Holmewood prides itself on the care and attention given to residents and their families. Carers concentrate on getting to know residents and their families, enabling staff to look after physical needs and more importantly delivering what emotional support residents and their family might need.

The home understands that choosing a care home is one of the most difficult decisions a family member or advocate can make and are there to help families through that decision, through the move-in and beyond.

Holmewood Care Home also offers excellent activities, which provide stimulation and engagement to all residents. The home's activities coordinator works with individuals to ensure that they are offered activities that will suit each person. Sometimes, this means that one-to-one activities are more appropriate than group activities.

Along with the excellent care offered by very experienced teams, significant support is offered to family members too. Other seminars are around funding care, lasting power of attorney or where end-of-life care takes place and discussing wishes and wants with loved ones.

My father is a resident, he has been at Holmewood Care Home since February 2024 and settled immediately thanks to the lovely atmosphere and loving staff and carers. He is well cared for and seems genuinely happy and content. My Mum and I visit several times a week and he is always well dressed and clean.
His room and the communal areas are tidy. Dad has had a few health issues since moving in, but we are always kept well informed, he is well monitored and cared for when poorly and timely medical attention sought if necessary. The food is good, Dad eats well and is encouraged to stay hydrated with drinks he will enjoy.
Cannot fault the dedication of the staff, they work so hard.

My grandad has improved significantly since admission to Holmewood Care Home, he is much brighter in his mood, has more colour in his cheeks and overall seems really well. The staff here have been absolutely fantastic and such a brilliant support in what has been a very difficult time. I cannot thank
them enough!

This care home is really the best I could wish for, for dad. Everywhere is always so clean and tidy. The menu is better than what I'd ever imagained.
Every single member of staff is amazing and very friendly. I can well and truly recommend this place to anyone.

The care home did not know that my son and I were visiting. We were greet at the entrance with cheerful staff. We happened to arrive just as activities were starting, making Christmas cards, a quiz and some singing.

I cannot thank the manager and her dedicated team enough for looking after my mum. The staff go the extra mile to make sure all the residents have all the care and attention they need at whatever time of day or night. The activities lady makes sure the residents have plenty to do to keep them entertained.

From the warm welcome, the smiles of all the staff, their enthusiasm, and their obvious affection for all the residents are there for all in the building. Nothing is too much trouble, I'm kept informed about Mum every step of her stay. I always recommend this care home whenever anyone asks how Mum's

My aunt has been in the home for a week and has settled in very well. The staff are kind and attentive, her room homely and bright and the management informative and approachable. It's early days but so far my aunt and the family are very happy with their choice of care home.

My father has been at the Holmewood Care Home for approximately eight months, and we are very happy with his care. We are always made to feel welcome when we visit him. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, from management to domestic staff, and the carers are always available if we need any advice.
My father enjoys the entertainment provided, and he is very happy there. Would recommend the care home to anyone.

On my first visit I was impressed by the security at the entrance, a register is on hand for visitors to sign in, date, time, and the name of the person going to see. You then ring a bell to be admitted. You are welcomed by a smiling happy face of one of the staff. My first impression, no smell of stale
air it was fresh. The community room has comfy chairs and a TV, there is also plenty of fruit juice and little snacks for the residents, staff was there at all times, alert, watchful, professional, nothing was too much trouble, and always with a smile. My brother's room had his photo taped to the door (good idea), it consisted of a bed, wardrobe, an easy chair near the window and clean. For main meals they have a choice of two. I have to admit it smelled delicious. I know my brother is in a good place and his needs are being cared for.

Rooms and bedrooms are dated. Beds are not suitable for clients. No moving and handling items with the use of a rotunda stand aid.
Losing personal items, clothes and bedding. Lack of communication with staff and management. The staff are friendly but on enquiring information on the phone sometimes

Very pleased with Holmewood Care Home. From my experience with the staff, they are excellent in the job they do, very polite, friendly and really seem to care. Overall very happy at the moment, my dad's health improved in the time he has been here. Enjoys his food etc.

I have been working here since summer 2023 but I have over 10 years of experience in activities and care. I am an NVQ 3 qualified, fire trainer instructor and I have a degree in pedagogy & psychology. I can sing, and play the guitar and my favourite activity is a fun singalong. My proudest achievement in this role is winning 1st place for the tastiest cake in a cake-making activity. In my spare time, I also like to take photographs. You will see some of these pictures on our Facebook page. My biggest passion in life is volunteering for charities supporting children in need.

My passion for care began when I used to visit my grandma who was in Holmewood Care Home, I got to know the manager who saw something in me and suggested a career in care, I wasn’t sure if I could do it but she encouraged me to give it try and I have never looked back.


I started as a care assistant 25 years ago and gradually worked my way through the different roles in the home, becoming a deputy in 2014 and then manager in 2022, an achievement I am really proud of.


Every day is so rewarding, when new resident arrives, they can start off scared and unsettled so the challenge is to make them feel at home and like part of the family, when you see them transform and thrive, it makes it all worthwhile.


My qualifications include NVQ levels 2, 3, 4 and 5 in Health & Social Care and management.
