Holmewood is located on the outskirts of the busy town of Chesterfield, nestled at the heart of the community alongside its sister home, Barnfield.

Holmewood prides itself on the care and attention given to residents and their families. Carers concentrate on getting to know residents and their families, enabling staff to look after physical needs and more importantly delivering what emotional support residents and their family might need.

The home understands that choosing a care home is one of the most difficult decisions a family member or advocate can make and are there to help families through that decision, through the move-in and beyond.

Holmewood Care Home also offers excellent activities, which provide stimulation and engagement to all residents. The home's activities coordinator works with individuals to ensure that they are offered activities that will suit each person. Sometimes, this means that one-to-one activities are more appropriate than group activities.

Along with the excellent care offered by very experienced teams, significant support is offered to family members too. Other seminars are around funding care, lasting power of attorney or where end-of-life care takes place and discussing wishes and wants with loved ones.

Unbelievable home, the staff are truly amazing, fantastic with staff. Nothing is too much trouble. My nan was underweight on arrival and they helped her put weight on. Made her feel at home and settled. Made the whole experience a less distressing one.

Staff are pleasant and friendly. The home's communal areas could do with a revamp as it's looking tired and worn. I also think the cleanliness could be better, particularly in the toilets.

A last-minute visit with my children and their children. You were so accommodating, fitting us in at such short notice - this is very much appreciated - thank you.
Mum appeared well, although slippers and glasses were missing - a member of staff went to search.
Mum's room was very clean and tidy,
and she had just been showered.
We were checked on several times to make sure all ok.
Care plan review is to be scheduled for the new year.

Found the care home staff all friendly, kind and caring. Welcome surroundings comfortable clean room. Altogether a pleasant atmosphere looked after my husband very well until he died.

Friendly and polite staff. Sometimes it is difficult to get updates on my wife's condition on the telephone. Otherwise, the home seems to be run to a very good standard.

I know this review should relate to one month only, but i want to thank the staff at Holmewood Care Home for the way that they have cared for my Mum and all the residents in recent months. My mum has been at Holmewood for several years and I think of it as her home.

Due to Covid restrictions, it is difficult to make comments regarding many of the questions listed as I have been unable to see my aunt, except behind a screen, and more recently, just inside one designated room. However, my aunt is very happy with the care she is receiving - says she has a lovely room,
and the food is good.

When our mother was needing 24hr care, we were very worried where she would go, but had no need to be, as this home is excellent. The staff are wonderful and nothing is too much trouble. Thank you very much from us all for the care and support that you give to our mum.

My first experience of involving care homes and a relative. Having viewed several homes locally, I chose this home as my preference. I have not been disappointed, in fact, I am more than impressed to only with the facilities, but the caring nature of all the staff and would definitely refer them on
to anyone else who is in my unfortunate position. The handling of the Covid pandemic has been amazing. Thank you.

My experience with the home is very satisfying. They looked after my Mum and Dad very well. My Dad is now only at the home as my Mum passed away recently.

For the last six years, my mother has been a resident at Holmewood manor. She has been well treated by the staff; they are polite, clean and professional. The food/meals served are varied, hot, good and plenty of it! Before the Covid outbreak, we're met by helpful staff, who would liaise with relatives
if necessary. Staff have gone over and above their duties but still provide excellent care under extremely difficult circumstances. Currently, the home is facilitating pod or face to face visits using the appropriate PPE/test.

Before the pandemic, I felt that Mum had settled well and that the staff were professional and kind. They kept Coivd out of the facility for a long time, but in the end, it arrived. I do not think the staff could have done any more than they did to keep the residents safe. I do, however, feel that a
7% increase last year and a 10% increase this year is excessive with Covid being blamed for the increase.

My mam has been in her four weeks now, she was very unsettled at first but three weeks on, she's settled very well. All her family are very appreciative for the very good care that mam is getting, she is a lot better in her health and well being.

The atmosphere is very welcoming and the majority of people I meet all seem to be quite content and the staff seem to get along with each other as a team, doing the best they can for the residents. Personally, I love to hear soft music playing as it creates a homely environment which was absent in other

I have been working here since summer 2023 but I have over 10 years of experience in activities and care. I am an NVQ 3 qualified, fire trainer instructor and I have a degree in pedagogy & psychology. I can sing, and play the guitar and my favourite activity is a fun singalong. My proudest achievement in this role is winning 1st place for the tastiest cake in a cake-making activity. In my spare time, I also like to take photographs. You will see some of these pictures on our Facebook page. My biggest passion in life is volunteering for charities supporting children in need.

My passion for care began when I used to visit my grandma who was in Holmewood Care Home, I got to know the manager who saw something in me and suggested a career in care, I wasn’t sure if I could do it but she encouraged me to give it try and I have never looked back.


I started as a care assistant 25 years ago and gradually worked my way through the different roles in the home, becoming a deputy in 2014 and then manager in 2022, an achievement I am really proud of.


Every day is so rewarding, when new resident arrives, they can start off scared and unsettled so the challenge is to make them feel at home and like part of the family, when you see them transform and thrive, it makes it all worthwhile.


My qualifications include NVQ levels 2, 3, 4 and 5 in Health & Social Care and management.
