My mum went in for a weeks respite, all the staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble, they all did over and above what was expected of them to make sure Mum had a pleasant stay. Also, their caring attitude to other residents was evident, I would highly recommend West Hallam Care Home.

My mother has been a resident here at West Hallam for well over 18 months now.

The care she has received has been excellent. Nothing has ever been too much trouble for the staff, they have looked after her as if she was their own family. Many thanks. Great work.

Lively, friendly atmosphere. Residents needs and preferences are at the centre of all decisions and actions. Nothing too much trouble for any of the staff. Relatives are made welcome and encouraged to join in the activities.

Staff are very good to excellent. In some cases outstanding. The only critique I have is by opening up the unit, it now has lost its individuality and can be described as a "waiting room" and/or a corridor. I know some staff don't like it and say it was better when the unit was more closed - more cosy and what the one to one unit requires is near to be achieved, than how it is now. Safety is halved by not allowing this to be a "standalone" unit. There is only one door secure from the outside and that is not hard for a resident to see the sequence. Cost effective, so doubtful. That is why I have marked management down. Don't call them service users, horrible term - Depersonalised.

Mum has been at West Hallam for about 1 and a half years. She is really settled. Her room is always nice and the staff are all lovely. She has her hair done and her nails which she loves and there is good entertainment to occupy her. The staff are more like family to her now, she is never lonely. She enjoys her meals and they will give you whatever you want.

I cannot praise this care home highly enough. Staff are professional and caring, make you very welcome when visiting. Activities are organised regularly and outings too. The bistro nights are great fun and give family a chance to get together. Cleanliness is excellent, food is too.

On visiting my father on an evening in November, it was cold outside and there was no heating on in his room (windows wide opened) apparently left open from the morning staff. I was told evening staff hadn't been in his room all day. Dad was walking around in a short sleeve shirt which wasn't his, he had odd slippers on and was cold to touch and there were other residents sitting with blankets around them. His evening meal was a cheese sandwich again with a small pork pie and a few crisps. He wanted a hot drink to warm him up, which he had to wait for when the trolley came around. Quite often his clothes are mixed up or lost with other residents, including women's garments.

On each visit, I see the residents are well presented, clean and tidy. The home has a chatty and lively atmosphere. The staff are attentive to the residents at all times. They are happy to chat with both residents and visitors and are always willing to speak to you about any concerns you may have. They encourage the residents to take part in the many activities that they have going on. The home is always clean and fresh.

I have visited on numerous occasions. Staff are all friendly, helpful and caring. Great atmosphere with lots of activities for all the residents to get involved in! Great Bistro night this month where we attended with the family, paid £5 for a 3-course meal, played cards and had a quiz. I would definitely recommend and enjoy my visits.

Since my grandmother has been here, she has been so happy. The care staff are so friendly and caring towards her. There are always activities for the residents such as an entertainer, bistro nights for all the family, and games. It's so clean and my gran's room is so pretty. I would definitely recommend this lovely place to others, well done.

The home is a "family home" - residents become part of the "Ashmere family" as do their relatives. Staff are very professional and will go that "extra mile" to help - above and beyond their normal paid hours. Staff show genuine love and understanding to their residents.

I would like to put on record my appreciation for the welcome reception I have always received whenever I have visited my dear friend in your Ashmere home. I have been particularly impressed with your treatment of her, she is always immaculately groomed (nails beautifully painted and nicely dressed) and to find her looking healthy and peaceful. The meals I have shared with her in Ashmeres social evenings have been excellent and beautifully presented. I would like to thank your staff for their kind hospitality.
