Mum moved to the Firs a year ago from another care home, as she then needed nursing care for her needs. All the staff are all very polite, helpful, caring and always had a smile for you. Everywhere was very clean and mums room was always spotless, bed made and the towel fan on the bed was a lovely touch, no wonder she thought she was in a hotel. The care was first class making sure her insulin and medication were always on time, making sure she was happy and safe. Mum was encouraged to join in with the activities everyday and go out on trips, she even won a trophy for bowling. Mum carried on having her hair done weekly which has always been her routine, toiletries supplied and this was all in with the price. We were always kept informed at every step of the way as mum had very complex needs. She was treated with respect and dignity all the time especially though at her end of life, making sure she left the home looking peaceful and as lovely as she always did. Five star home

I can't speak highly enough of west Hallam Care Home and the care & support given to my dad and myself. The staff worked so well as a team and consistently treated my dad with compassion, kindness and dignity. He was well cared for at all times. The home has a warm + supportive atmosphere both for the residents and their families.

I wouldn't hesitate to choose the home again should my dad need permanent or further respite care.

We moved Mum from a home where she was not encouraged to participate and her needs were not met, in short, she was left in bed all day, to sleep, eat , be cleaned etc. we cannot believe the difference in the Firs!! So clean, beautifully decorated, made to feel more homely. Staff are amazing and very attentive to Mum's needs , encouraging her to sit (in special chair) to take part in activities and to join in conversation. I am very pleased with the professionalism of all staff, combined with caring attitude. The activities and trips(which are daily) are amazing and planned to encourage all residents to take part and enjoy. I feel guilty that Mum was not moved sooner! All extras, weekly hairdresser, toiletries, manicure, trips and activities are included in the weekly price, which was not the case in her previous home

Review of King William Residential Home from H W (Friend of Resident) published on 21 June 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

A dear friend of ours has been in the King William for just over a year and we cannot believe how settled she has become. We try to visit her most weeks and if there is entertainment we can see the difference in the residents. The staff are extremely helpful and kind. We could recommend anyone to think about the King William for a relative or friend.

I cant express enough how truly grateful we are for the amazing care my dad receives at the firs nursing home.
As a family, we knew straight away when we first visited that this home was different. It felt welcoming, and homely with such a lovely atmosphere. Moving my dad here was honestly the best decision we could have made. Sadly, his previous nursing home gave very poor care, and we had to report concerns to the CQC on several occasions. The difference between the two homes is unbelievable.

Now we have complete peace of mind knowing my dad is happy, safe, respected, and genuinely cared for like a king. You can clearly see that the whole of the team are passionate about giving the very best care possible. The activities, outtings, one 2 ones are just fantastically organised a real dream team, every single member of the team deserve recognition they all do incredible job, all of the team are truly appreciated by our whole of the family.

I visited a friend for the first time on a rainy May afternoon, although I had been in the building for a Christmas Fayre & VE celebrations, which were fun and well attended.

After signing in, I was promptly taken to her room, passing through bright, light reception rooms on each floor where residents were relaxing, chatting and resting on comfortable furniture, with TV and refreshments available. Her room was a 5-star, ensuite, with a view over the park. It was immaculate, and she commented on how caring everyone was.

Review of Codnor Park Residential Home from Kenneth H (Brother of Resident) published on 2 June 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My sister was a resident from December 2024 until her death in April 2026. She was 95 years old. During this time she wa always treated with love, dignity and respect by all the staff who work hard, collaboratively, with affection and humour. Residents are actively encouraged in exercise, entertainment and activities which sustain levels of motivation, social interaction and life enhancing skills. During her final hours I was deeply moved by the efforts all the staff made to make my sister comfortable. She was ever grateful to all the staff as are all her immediate family. Thank you!

The building is welcoming, mainly always staff around on entering, staff always friendly and have the time of day. Staff seem to multitask so always very busy. Staff show lots of care and love for the really vulnerable or upset residents, cleaning staff on the all all the time. Lots of activities and things, for residents to see and do. Generally a very good atmosphere.

Experience has been very positive. From first being shown around, we were impressed by the homely feeling and the knowledge and friendliness of the staff. We weren't sure how my aunt would settle, but after the first few days she has been fine. She goes regularly into the lounge and takes part in some activities, which we are really happy about. The activities organisers, are great and seem to arrange something for everyone. Everyone is caring and welcoming.

My relative has been a resident since January 2022/23. All the staff who work at the home have been professional, efficient, and empathetic when needed. They settled in almost immediately, accepting the genuine kindness shown all around. They have thrived both mentally and physically. The positive attitude of my relative, coupled with the working ethic of the staff, has made their life at the home a pleasure. Review of The Firs Care Home with Nursing from Nicola K (Son of Resident) published on 22 April 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

We were understandably very dubious about placing Dad into nursing care, particularly because of a previous difficult experience of where involvement from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) had been required. That experience made us extremely cautious and anxious about making the right decision, however, Kelly, Sarah and the wonderful staff from The Firs have completely restored our confidence. Communication is excellent, involved in events, meetings, and any changes to his care needs. Conversations with staff are open, honest, and realistic, and they consistently demonstrate a deep level of respect and empathy for all residents. Knowing Dad has compassionate 24-hour care has been a great relief, and it's clear how much he enjoys the company of the many staff members who look after him, he has built so many friendships and finally has a smile on his face. The staff are family to us, and the love they show is everything a human being so deserves. Forever grateful and blessed.
