This was the first time I had visited my friend in her new home so of course i was eager to see her happy and settled . As a carer myself I can tell when care is genuine and natural and that is what I felt In Smalley Care home. The staff I saw were attentive and kind and having had a bit of time
with the activities coordinator I can see that there is a good variety of things going on including trips out . There was also nice touches like a personal photo board outside residents room which gave a snapshot of their life and interests. I came away feeling glad that my friend has found a place that sees value in people and in their individuality. Thank you everyone

During what was always destined to be a difficult, transitional period for my Mum, everyone at the King William has done their utmost to make her feel welcome and displayed a high degree of empathy with her.
All of my initial questions and concerns have been addressed immediately and I have no doubt
that should my Mum's stay at the King William change from one of respite, to a more permanent arrangement, she will be in extremely safe hands.

My dad seems to be settling in well. We feel confident that he's being well cared for. Most of all we have peace of mind that he's safe and is getting the specialist care and attention that he needs with his vascular dementia/Alzheimer's and other medical issues. There's always plenty of staff on. They're
all very friendly and helpful. Dads room is fantastic and the place is well kept.

Mothers day- we arrived to spend some time with mum and were made very welcome. Our table for the Sunday lunch was all ready for us. With two little ones in our group this was most welcome. I must say the food (I had roast pork) was lovely, service was very attentive and I did enjoy the glass of wine.
Truly home from home. Thank you so much. Mum was happy to see us and confirmed yet again that she is very happy at Valley Lodge and never wants to leave. She says she prefers all the activities than doing the housework!

Mum had a series of medical issues starting in Summer of 2024, after 3 hospital stays and 2 rehabilitation stays, she was not able to return home and elected for a short term residency at King William from November 2024. She soon settled in and had a really enjoyable Christmastime. Unfortunately early
in January 2025 she had a 4th hospital stay, knowingly electing to return to King William to spend her last days there, passing away a week later.

Throughout her initial stay the staff were able to encourage her to get involved in several activities and provided some wonderful memories in a short space of time. Her last days were dignified due to the level of care and attention that the staff and District Nurses jointly delivered. During that period my siblings and I were kept well informed and could not have asked for more support.

Absolutelty excellent service from the whole staff at The Firs! I was apprehensive about my husband going in for respite, but from the assessment at home to him being discharged, we couldn't have been put more at ease or welcomed. My husband was happy and content from the moment he arrived. The staff

Mum came out of an 8 week stay in hospital to here, we were all greeted by smiling staff of all levels who were all very polite, helpful, caring and introduced themselves one by one. Mum's room is amazing and has a view that was more like home with uninterrupted views of the park. Every where is immaculate
and it is no nice for her to be able to sit at a dining table to conversate with other residents. The care is first class and sorting out Nurses to come in every day to make sure mums insulin is correct. Very good menu with plenty of choices of food. The home has plenty of space in each area and is well led and supported by a good GP surgery and staff.

My mum has received exceptional care since moving to live at King William Residential Home back in 2022, and it has brought me so much peace of mind to see her so well cared for. The staff go above and beyond to make her feel safe, comfortable, and valued - not just for her physical needs, but emotionally
and personally as well. The fact that they're helping her stay connected to her family and friends whilst ensuring she feels part of the King William family is truly special. The activities provided by the team are so varied, and there is always something to do: dancing, flower arranging, cooking, swimming, local farm visits, music, bingo, visiting performers/animals, spa treatments, an onsite salon... the list goes on and on! Mum really enjoys the meals too - it seems every meal is one of her favourites! The care staff always keep me informed and updated on my mum's health and well-being. It is incredibly reassuring for me to see how well she's being looked after! Thank you King William!

The King William residence is a fabulous building, which has been transformed into a homely, cosy, fully equipped residential home. As a family we were drawn to its 'home from home' atmosphere.
All the staff are extremely caring and professional towards our mother, also welcoming and approachable towards

We are happy with our mother's care, but at times could do better. I think our mother has fallen around twelve times and on many occasions damaged herself badly. Our mother doesn't take up a lot of time at the care home, doesn't eat much and isn't any trouble. We are happy with most of the staff but
not all.

My Dad had a terminal cancer diagnosis in December 2024 and was entitled to free care under the NHS's continuing care scheme as long as he opted for a nursing home on their list. We declined this and opted to pay for Codnor Park which we knew to be a good home as Mum was a resident there before she
died last May. Yet again the standard of end-of-life care was second to none. The environment is bright, clean, welcoming and there are plenty of activities but it is the staff that make the real difference. Their care, compassion and professionalism in looking after Dad and my brother and I was fantastic and we are grateful to them for making an already difficult year for us more bearable. We would highly recommend this home.
