Lovely residential care home. Senior staff really know the residents well. Rooms feel homely but always fresh and clean. Pleasant communal spaces. Setting has beautiful outdoor space and far-ranging country views.

I am delighted with how well my aunt has settled into Wheathills House. The staff are caring, friendly, endlessly patient and accommodating of residents' individual needs and preferences. It is a real 'home from home'. Concerns are dealt with promptly and efficiently. After a recent hospital stay, my
aunt was most relieved to be returning to Wheathills, rather than her own home, because the staff made her feel safe and well cared for. That speaks volumes and indeed the ambulance staff remarked how nice (and unusual) it was to hear that a patient was happy to be returning to their care home! Visitors are welcomed, everywhere is spotlessly clean and there are several areas, separate from the residents' main lounge, in which to enjoy a cosy chat (a small sitting room, a very extensive conservatory and a patio area when the weather permits). The icing on the cake is that Wheathills is a country house, with extensive grounds, with magnificent views of the surrounding Derbyshire countryside.
Reply from Rebecca Whitehouse, Marketing at Wheathills HouseThank you for your wonderful review. Our entire staff team are so pleased that your aunt has settled in and feels safe and secure and that the care she receives is acknowledged in your review.

Our father's previous care home closed down at very short notice and we were recommended Wheathill House as somewhere they thought he would settle and be happy. From the very start, we were impressed by the cleanliness, the food, the general atmosphere of loving care and excellent staff. No one places
a parent in a home lightly and in the ten months he has been at Wheathills House both he and us are completely happy with our choice.

The home staff show a genuine caring attitude. The house is well run and clean. The staff are also very respectful towards the residents. Mum is happy and feels safe. She is always clean and well fed, the meals are excellent. Importantly to us and her she does not smell. The activities are varied and
enjoyed.

Mum has been at Wheathills for just over 6 months now and has settled in well. The staff are attentive and caring and Mum seems happy enough. The home itself is decorated and furnished to a high standard. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, it is set in beautiful surroundings with views of the countryside.
Management are always friendly and inform me of any problems with Mum. Overall an excellent care home.

My mum has been a resident of Wheathills House for just over a year now, and settled in really well, which means so much to us. The staff are very friendly and caring towards Mum, and put Mum at ease. Visiting Mum is always met with a friendly face from all staff, and made welcome. It’s nice that Wheathills
put on family days such as garden parties, tea mornings, where you get to meet other residents' families. Overall we are pleased we chose Wheathills for Mum.

My mum has been a resident at Wheathills House for just over a year now. After looking at a number of different residential homes, Wheathills came out at the top of our list. We are so glad that we got that decision right. The staff are very caring and professional, and there isn't anything that is
too much trouble. There is always a family-like atmosphere around the place with plenty of smiles and laughter, which I think is important. Mum is very settled and contented at Wheathills which is so nice to see, a huge thank you to all the staff for the fantastic job you all do!

I cannot praise the care I have received at Wheathills House over the past 4 weeks enough. Without exception the staff have been caring, considerate and nothing has been too much trouble.
From the day I was admitted my care included being seen by a local GP and arrangements for district nurses to
visit, also a provision of a special bed which was here in less than 24hrs.
My dog was even allowed to visit me several times.
While I am obviously pleased to be going home I shall miss the staff who have all become friends.

My dear wife who has been at Wheathills for just over one year is a Dementia and Parkinson's sufferer and as such needs specialist and sympathetic care which I am pleased to say she receives in abundance from cheerful charming carers. After a difficult start due to covid, she now considers this to
be her home where she feels safe and secure. Well done everyone concerned and thank you.

Mum came to Wheathills in the Spring of 2021.
At all times, we have found the home and staff to be friendly and cheerful. The house is clean and feels like a home.
Mum is very happy, and we all feel she is safe now, having been managing in her own home until her arrival.
Everyone is helpful and
accommodating.
The food is good and plentiful, and there are plenty of choices.
No complaints - thanks to everyone.

My Dad has been at Wheathills House for just over a year and is the most content he has been in years. As a family we are thrilled with the care Dad is receiving. They never treat him as 'a job to be done', but are always respectful and kind to him. In my job I have visited well over a hundred care
homes in various counties and the level of care, here at Wheathills, I personally consider exceptional. When dad had been there about 4 weeks I chatted to him as to how he felt being there or would he like to try another place. His reply was, 'I've found a 2nd family and I'm happy here'. No greater compliment. Thank you.

Mum has been at Wheathills House for a year now. We were able to take her own furniture and arrange it as she wanted. It is a beautiful house with lovely gardens to sit in. Mum likes the food and the dining room tables are nicely laid out like a restaurant. It is very helpful that a doctor visits on
a regular basis. As Mum is quite deaf she finds it difficult to join in the activities and consequently spends most of her time in her room which fortunately has dual access windows onto the garden, because of this she would like it if the staff had more time to chat with her.

Mum loves being at Wheathills House. The staff are so kind, caring and friendly. Mum's needs have changed over her time there and the staff have really been brilliant in helping keep mum as independent as possible. Staff take time to dance with mum as they know it's something she loves to do. The staff's
commitment to helping mum and other residents through the pandemic is nothing short of amazing and I want to thank each and every one of you. You are truly wonderful. Thank you so, so much.

My mother has been at Wheathills House for almost a year now. She was impressed from the outset by the kindness and patience of the staff there and the individual attention provided in terms of diet preferences, exercise and her comfort generally. Her room is light and comfortable, and the grounds are
lovely so Mum likes to take a walk around them most days. Mum’s mental and physical health has improved since she has been at Wheathills House and at my last visit she was the happiest I have seen her for several years. Thanks to the whole Wheathills team for your caring approach, your professionalism and the friendly atmosphere you have created.

My mum’s best friend has been a resident at Wheathills for the past three or four years. She loves it there, the food, the environment and the staff are exceptional - very friendly, caring and helpful. They’ve had a tough 2 years with Covid but have coped very well. Nothing too much trouble when we
phone. It’s great to go back to visit. Beautiful place and surroundings.

The staff at Wheathills House have really helped Mum to settle in at the home where she has been a resident for nearly 5 months. They are extremely helpful, kind and patient and have tried very hard to meet all Mum's care needs. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and Mum loves to sit in the conservatory
and look out onto the gardens. Her room is lovely and sunny and we were able to make it feel like home by adding some of her personal furnishings. They have activities arranged in the morning and there are often visiting entertainers to add variety. Mum says the food is delicious and she certainly looks very well indeed. Thank you to all the staff for your hard work and dedication, it is much appreciated.

You always receive a warm and friendly welcome from all the staff, all are kind, caring and patient to my mum and all the other residents. Wheathills House is comfortable, warm, with excellent facilities, set in lovely gardens with views across the countryside. Rooms are clean, warm and very comfortable
with en-suite facilities. There is always plenty to occupy the residents with activities and entertainment, singing and dancing. More like a hotel than a care home. Meals are excellent served in a dining room with tables laid out to restaurant standards.

My mother has been a resident at Wheathills House for about 6 months and during that time she has always been complimentary about the staff and the care that they have given her, and also that she has seen them provide to other residents. She is fond of sitting in the garden, enjoying the views across
the nearby countryside.
I have appreciated the adjustments the home has made to accommodate my mother’s preferences, for example by changing around some of the furniture in her room, finding out what she likes for breakfast and providing alternatives at mealtimes. In addition, the home provides a range of activities for the residents as well as more practical support including hairdressing and a visiting chiropodist.
I know that moving into a residential home can be a stressful and upsetting experience, but the staff at Wheathills House have worked hard to make the process as pleasant and straightforward as possible.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.798)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.798) out of 10 for Wheathills House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.798 for Wheathills House is calculated as follows: ( (207 Excellents x 5) + (50 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 258 Ratings = 4.798
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Wheathills House is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
