My father has been a resident at Wheathills House for 2 years. Throughout he has been looked after very well with lovely caring staff. The setting is beautiful but it is the level of care that he receives that is important for us as a family. The staff are always so helpful and nothing is too much trouble.
He is happy living there which is comforting for us, he loves the food and looks very well. Thank you to all the team at Wheathills.
Reply from Richard Whitehouse, Registered Manager at Wheathills HouseMany thanks for the review, so pleased that Dad remains happy and contented and that you acknowledge the continued commitment and hard work of our entire staff team.

Mum has now stayed at Wheathills for the last four years. Mum settled immediately and has been very happy in such a friendly and caring home. It is always very reassuring to see Mum so well looked after following some of the challenges of living on her own at home; the company of other residents and
genuine care and warmth of the staff is always apparent on our visits. I cannot thank Wheathills enough for how they continued to provide this same level of care during the challenging times of the pandemic. It is the staff that make this such a good care home and it has now also recently benefited from a major refurbishment. Mum has a lovely newly decorated room and continues to enjoy all the activities and excellent food. Thank you to all the staff for their care and friendship.
Reply from Richard Whitehouse, Registered Manager at Wheathills HouseThanks for taking the time to leave us a review. Its importance is significant, as such positive feedback helps our entire staff team continue to progress and develop despite the challenges we all continue to face.

First-class residential care home with excellent facilities and staff. Good choice of rooms, when weather permits access to grounds dependant on your health. There is a choice of meals. The owners are very approachable. I would without any doubt recommend the home to anyone.

My mum, who is 87 and lives with us, has just spent two weeks at Wheathills House for respite so that my family and I could go on holiday. She has memory and confusion issues and I was incredibly worried and upset about having to leave her somewhere. The staff at Wheathills House very quickly took all
of that pressure off my shoulders. The care and understanding given to my mum were exactly what I was looking for. I was able to visit a few times myself and was impressed and at ease with the staff, the family feel and the beautiful house itself. It was different to my expectations based on care homes I’ve visited in the past - it is actually a very pleasant place to be, spotlessly clean (no smell!) and somewhere where I would be happy to stay myself. Mum has been very happy and full of praise for the “gorgeous hotel”, as she refers to it and, in her opinion, “it’s the staff that make it - nothing’s too much trouble for anyone”. She was so happy that she has arranged a return visit.
Reply from Richard Whitehouse, Registered Manager at Wheathills HouseMany thanks for taking the time on the review. We're very pleased that Mum enjoyed her stay with us. My entire Staff Team work very hard and we continue to provide quality service despite the difficulties faced recently. We look forward to seeing Mum again soon.

My brother and I are extremely grateful for being invited back to visit our mother in her room after being informed that she had lost considerable weight and was deteriorating. We understand the extra cost and work this causes the home. My mum has responded very positively to our visits. She requires
and is receiving, a high degree of care that is beyond the norm for a Care Home. All the staff have been extremely patient, kind and understanding with our mum and ourselves. A big thank you to Wheathills House and all staff.
Reply from Richard Whitehouse, Registered Manager at Wheathills HouseThanks for taking time to submit a review. My staff team and Mum's GP were very concerned that the lack of family contact were having a very detrimental effect on Mums life and after an in-depth Risk Assessment, it was decided that the benefits of visits far outweighed any risks. With careful planning and testing facilities in place, it was possible to help facilitate visits, which have resulted in miraculous improvements for Mum. We continue to take part in the Testing and Vaccination programmes and look forward to fully 'Opening' our doors again.
My staff continue to give 110% throughout these difficult times. Thanks again.

I cannot speak highly enough of Wheathills House and their staff. Prior to the pandemic, it was vital to find residential care for my 98-year-old mother-in-law. Not only was the manager his staff accommodating and responsive, they actively worked with us to provide her with the care she needed. With
their care and attention, she is medically in much better health and appears ten years younger! She enjoys sitting in the lovely conservatory and chatting to the other residents. The meals are excellent, all freshly cooked, and nutritionally balanced. During the lockdown, thanks to their efforts, they have remained COVID free and continue to swab staff and residents to that end.
Reply from Richard Whitehouse, Registered Manager at Wheathills HouseThank you for taking the time to submit the review. My mother has been in this care home for approximately 6 years and myself and other family members could not be happier. She's well cared for and under the new circumstances and couldn't be looked after any better, she's coming up to 98 years old and over the years has acquired some degree of dementia
and has also lost her sight, but she is familiar with the staff who are all very kind and caring. The food is excellent and cleanliness second to none.

My friend was an emergency admission to Wheathills and I was worried how she would settle. She quickly felt at home and cared for. The staff are friendly and treat her with respect. Daily activities are arranged to keep residents occupied and entertained. I was very concerned about the Coronavirus and
very pleased to hear no residents or staff have been affected and been tested during the lockdown.
I have no hesitation in recommending Wheathills House.

In November 2008 my auntie had to relinquish her independence and find somewhere that would look after her. Insistent that she stayed in Derbyshire as she had spent her eighty years there and had no wish to move anywhere else in the country or to live with relatives. After much searching, she very,
fortunately, chose Wheathills and has never looked back. It took her a while to come to terms initially with being dependent and the owner and staff could not have been more supportive and understanding, though knowing my auntie she would have tried their patience!
Since she settled she has been very happy and regards Wheathills as her home and the staff as her family, many of the staff have been there since she arrived and that is testament in itself to Wheathills and its owner with the caring profession being so demanding.
I cannot thank the owner and all the staff enough for their love and care they have shown her in the twelve years she has been there and knowing that it will continue.
Reply from Richard Whitehouse, Registered Manager at Wheathills HouseMany thanks for a lovely review, it's great to know that all the hard work of the entire Staff Team is appreciated and acknowledged in this way. We shall continue to provide Care, Comfort and Security for all of our Residents throughout this difficult time, whilst maintaining and exceeding the required Standards.

My Mum has been in Wheathills since September and has settled in very well. The care staff are excellent and have certainly made Mum feel at home and welcome. The home has a choice of areas to sit so Mum can be with other residents or have some time on her own. Food and location are excellent and activities
varied and Mum generally enjoys.

After viewing several care homes and Wheathills House, I thought it ideal for respite.
The house is very friendly and welcoming. The owner and staff are caring, the rooms are attractively furnished with quality fixtures and fittings. A beautiful dining room, conservatory overlooking the garden. I would
recommend Wheathills.
Just one small problem - activities - could do with more stimulation in the afternoon.

My nan stayed at Wheathills House for seven and a half years until she passed away of old age. We chose Wheathills due to its lovely setting and views, clean and tidy appearance, and friendly, caring and helpful staff. We visited a couple of times a week and never had any concerns.
My nan was happy
in the home, she enjoyed the company of the other residents and staff, and she always enjoyed the food. My nan took part in activities at the home and went on arranged trips out. We were allowed to have Christmas dinner with my nan at the home which my nan really appreciated.

I have visited many homes having close friends but none compare with Wheathills. The building and surrounding views are excellent. The care is faultless. The staff are so friendly and the care they provide shows to visitors and the lucky people they try to look after. The residents really love them
and in return, they really love the people they are caring for. Long may it continue.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.798)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.798) out of 10 for Wheathills House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.798 for Wheathills House is calculated as follows: ( (207 Excellents x 5) + (50 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 258 Ratings = 4.798
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Wheathills House is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
