Kirby House is a wonderful place to live. The manageress and staff always find time to discuss and help with any concerns plus everyone cares for the resident in an individual way to that person's needs by watching and learning from the resident's actions and reactions. The care and attention, not only
to the residents but to the family, has been exceptional throughout Covid. They have all given 100% to ensure the residents have been safe. Window and telephone calls have been a godsend to keep in touch with residents, all of which must have put extra strain on the management and staff. The build of a complete new glazed wall and door in the conservatory has helped families so much over the last few months to be able to sit inside and talk via the excellent intercom. God Bless you all.
General comments for Kirby House: excellent - staff, rooms, dining, entertainment and activities, care and attention (as far as possible across 40 something residents. So sometimes patience is needed). Thank you!

My brother-in-law has never been so well looked after in his life. He was difficult when he first went in but was talked around by the staff and is now very happy.

Aunty has been cared for very well for 3 years now at Kirby House. Since moving she has been much happier and animated thanks to the care and socialising that is so good at Kirby House.
The team always keep me updated on any concerns and changes in Aunt's care or at the home itself.
They have been
really on the ball with Covid 19 issues and were on the ball in advance; they have kept us informed throughout and tried hard to manage to arrange some safe visits whenever possible, although I couldn't due to my local restrictions. Regular phone calls from me are always welcomed.
I can't thank all the team at Kirby House enough for all they do.

All of the staff have shown professionalism in the care of my mother, especially during this difficult year. believe the manager and staff did all they could to keep residents safe from Covid 19. It has been difficult for everyone not being able to visit but restrictions are necessary to prevent further
illness and death. My mother has been upset that she cannot see us but at least she can remember us.
It is reassuring to hear that my mother is joining in with the activities and when we speak on the phone she is happy and speaks highly of the staff.
I am so glad that my mum is being cared to at Kirby House during this pandemic.

We chose Kirby House with my mother as she was struggling at home with extreme loneliness and stress, particularly during the current Covid epidemic. Since being in Kirby House she is much happier and much more settled than she has been over the past year. She is eating well and is enjoying the social
activities and friendships that she has made since her arrival earlier this year. The stress of taking her correct medication has also been taken from her. The staff in Kirby House are always helpful when phoned and are able to facilitate video chats and phone calls. It was obviously a very stressful time for us when my mother went into a residential home, particularly as we were not able to look round, and with the fact that she had to be isolated for the first two weeks. The virtual tour was helpful, but what has been more reassuring is now seeing my mother smiling and happy when we video chat. Kirby House is providing much needed reassurance to us during the current situation.

The carers are very kind and friendly and treat residents with patience while remaining firm where/when necessary. Extra resources have been put into activities in that there are now two people employed to organise activities for the residents. The activities workers are very good at involving residents
in the various activities and there is a mix of one-to-one and group activities most days. My mother's room is kept clean and I was involved in decisions on decor when my mother moved into a new room so I felt included. The manager is always happy to talk to family and she has been very helpful in helping me to process my feelings as my mother's dementia has worsened. The quality of the food is very good. The thing that works less well is the laundry service - I have sometimes found my mother wearing something that isn't hers and sometimes things have gone missing even though they are clearly marked. The home has benefitted recently from a number of improvements including double glazing.

From day one, I felt extremely comfortable that my mum was going to reside at Kirby House. Although the building was a little ties, it was clean and warm. On our many visits before 'lockdown', we were always met with smiles and friendliness from all the staff that we came into contact with and their
interaction with the residents was a pleasure to see. Nothing is too much trouble. Prior to Kirby House, Mum ate very little, now she wats regularly and joins in with the activities - a pleasant surprise. The staff always keep me informed of any problems, which at this time is much appreciated. Thank you Kirby House.

A big heartfelt Thankyou to all the staff at Kirby House for looking after our Dad during his stay. On entering Kirby House and meeting the staff it was an instant decision that we had found the right place for dad to be. It's such a difficult thing to recognise that your parent can no longer live independently.
The staff have made our dad so comfortable and welcome that he just settled straight in which had an impact on us as a family knowing he was happy and receiving everything he needed. The staff have gone way beyond to support us and dad that they have felt like part of our family. This has been such a difficult time with this dreaded virus, that they have really catered for our every need.
Helping us to keep in contact so we were there when he needed us and we needed him by phone and face time. We will miss visiting Kirby House and chatting to the staff.
I would like to thank and name every member of staff for their love and compassion that they provide, it's amazing.

My mum has been at Kirby House for 1 week now and throughout that short time, all the family have been impressed with the home and its staff. The home is clean, bright and welcoming. The staff are always approachable and caring and the residents are treated as individuals and with dignity. A lot of
effort clearly goes into a wide range of activities for the benefit of the residents, this was particularly apparent during the sing/dance afternoon, which brought energy and joy to a full house of residents (staff and family members).

My partner's Mother has only been at the home for less than a week, however, my partner and I have already commented several times, how caring and helpful the staff are and how clean the premises are. The staff and management always update us with how our relative is faring and nothing is too much trouble.

My mum moved here less than a week ago. Making this move is a decision I have worried over for a long time but after a fall I knew mum could not go home.
I'm amazed at how quickly she has settled and how smiley she has been every time we have visited and how kind, caring and helpful every member of
staff I have met have been.
Thank you so much for making this such a good experience.

I came to Kirby House from another care home following a spell in hospital. I was welcomed by the manager and staff and introduced to other residents. I join in activities and have been on a trip to Skegness. It was important for me to be near to my family as they are important to me. They are made
to feel welcome when they visit too. It is like a big family here and I am happy to have company. The staff are all very kind and always willing to help you.

Since Kirby House has been decorated it has a much better atmosphere. The garden room is lovely it all makes for a much more welcoming and positive atmosphere. The staff are amazing endless patience. I feel like my mum is in good hands, it's a relief to know she is safe.
Sometimes the corridors smell
a bit of urine and I know it's hard to manage this but it can get unpleasant.
Thanks for everything you do.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.618)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.618) out of 10 for Kirby House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.842 for Kirby House is calculated as follows: ( (80 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 95 Ratings = 4.842
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.776 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kirby House is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 41 registered maximum number of service users is 8.2. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.2 = 0.976
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
