Care is generally good in the home, and residents appear to be well looked after and happy. The home promotes residents independence, but on a personal point my mother's memory is very bad and she doesn't know how to ask for help/assistance for toileting and generally getting around the home. Carers
should be aware that some residents need prompting to go to the toilet or to ask for wheelchair assistance, and assure her that she won't be forgotten, one of her main worries. Shower more regular would be nice. The recent improvements to windows and decorating are lovely and make the home a better place.

This is a care home that are always helpful and understanding. My mother gets very good treatment and likes the friendly staff. All staff seem to have a good level of training. They also put on some trips to the seaside, parks and shops, plus invite entertainers into the home for different shows.

The staff are all caring and kind which is most important. They also seem to be skilled at dealing with difficult situations.
My only criticism is that the facilities need to be upgraded. There should be at least a washbasin and toilet in the rooms in the 21st century an ensuite room should really
be standard. I do appreciate that this is not easy to achieve in an older building.

Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5
There is evidence of home improvements to my sister's room. A new window, different drawer set, although the wall clock I bought her has gone missing. My sister is hardly able to communicate now so I cannot know her feelings. The home does arrange activities etc for the residents which is good, a magician
a few weeks ago when I was there. The food looks fairly edible but I have not seen much as my visits do not coincide with meal times.

Our relative seems very happy in Kirby House. She praises the staff for their friendliness and attentiveness. Their flexibility is most helpful and particularly useful for visitors when the timing of visits can be a problem when travelling from afar with modern day traffic congestion delay. She has
adapted to the care home "living" in a welcome short time period.

My mother-in-law came into Kirby House at the start of December. We were nervous about putting her in a home but the staff are amazing. My mother-in-law has settled in really well and made friends. She has Alzheimer's and since being in Kirby House, has become more alert and happy as she has company
and is being stimulated by activities. The home is always clean and the food is great.

This home deserves a 5 star, like home from home, staff and management are so helpful, nothing is too much trouble. On hand 24/7. The home itself is spotlessly clean, always fresh smell when you walk in the door, warm welcome to visitors offer of drink. The love and respect they give to the residents
is overwhelming, you can see that the staff love working there, happy workforce, happy home. Keep up the good work, excellent home, will make sure I recommend to everyone.

The staff at Kirby House make this a gem of a care home. In our experience the care given to residents, both physical and emotional, is exceptional. Any concerns are listened to and acted upon. Because of this dad is enjoying his new environment despite suffering from dementia and age-related issues.

Kirby

House is an older property but is clean, well managed and maintained. It is surrounded by trees which make for nice views from the room windows and the central courtyard is a peaceful place to sit.

Based on our experience we fully recommend Kirby House.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.618)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.618) out of 10 for Kirby House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.842 for Kirby House is calculated as follows: ( (80 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 95 Ratings = 4.842
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.776 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kirby House is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 41 registered maximum number of service users is 8.2. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.2 = 0.976
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
