My father has been a resident at Kirby House for nearly four years now and I can honestly say that the care is excellent as is the food, rooms and staff. If any concerns I have had with regards to my father have always been dealt with dignity and respect for all concerned.
I am always kept informed
of everything regarding dad.
I would highly recommend Kirby House to anyone.

My dad has been a resident of this amazing care home for 4 years. He is happy and settled and loves being outdoors in the garden listening to the birds, that the home have.
The staff are beyond helpful and always go an extra mile. The staff are polite, friendly, caring and approachable and very professional.
I'm always listened to as a relative and supported amazingly. I can't say anything bad about this home and can't thank them enough for all they're doing for us a family.

Dad spent his last few months here punctuated by admission to hospital. We can't fault the staff who were so helpful. The atmosphere at the home was lovely staff and patients interacting, very chatty and humorous yet caring at all times. After dad passed away, the managers were very supportive and offered
plenty of support to our family. In his short time here, dad did tell us how nice the staff were and also how good the food was.

My uncle was a resident at Kirby House for several years, during which time he was very well looked after, and was happy and contented.
Staff were very kind and caring and I have no complaints. My uncle passed away after 10 days in hospital aged 89 years old.

My mother was in this care home for approx six years until she died. All that times she was treated with the utmost care and dignity by all staff.
In all that time the rooms and resident areas at times could have done with a lick of paint and upgrade, but were always clean.

Mum is cared for fairly well. I would prefer if she was given more regular showers. Seems to be 1-2 times per week. Carers are all friendly and respectful and also consider my mums' disability. Towels and bedding changed regularly. I look after her laundry out of personal choice.
Food is generally
pretty good and mum says she usually enjoys it. Often has to wait in the dining room after meals and prefers to be taken sooner to her room as she often needs to use the toilet after dinner and can't use the downstairs toilets.

My late father was cared for at Kirby House before being moved to a nursing home earlier in the year. I cannot fault the loving care he was given during his time at Kirby House. The staff were unfailingly kind towards him when I know that at times his behaviour was challenging. I was always kept fully
informed, which was invaluable as I live some distance away. I cannot praise the staff or thank them enough for the care and attention they gave my dad.

My mother in law has been in Kirby House for 8 months, she settled very quickly. This was due to the kindness and professional care she received from all staff in the home. I have always found the home to be very clean and fresh smelling. Staff very helpful and friendly towards me. I would always recommend
Kirby House to anyone if asked.

I find Kirby House to be friendly, caring home where mum is considered in every aspect of their care for her. The staff are lovely to mum and treat her in a loving, jolly way she often has a laugh with them and they treat her with the dignity she deserves.

I visited today and was welcomed not only with wonderful, happy staff, but also a care manager who was supportive and caring. She took the time to speak to residents. What was fantastic was the way the activity was taking place and that staff encouraged residents to socialise (very important for dementia)
and get involved. The restaurant was cheery and spotlessly clean - residents had made a Leicester City football tribute wall. Lovely and would recommend to those looking for residential home or job in care sector.

The entrance area should have better security, many of times residents try to follow me leaving and hardly no staff about to usher them back. It needs monitoring 24/7 with my mam with dementia, it does worry me.
I hope they offer more outdoor activities, the home has a lovely garden available to them,
I encourage my mam to come out and get some air instead of being cooped up inside and it keeps her active as well. But other than that I am happy where she is.

Like all situations there is good and bad. I had no choice but to come into care, it breaks my heart to give up my home but I know I must be realistic and accept what life is for me now, and make the best of it.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.618)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.618) out of 10 for Kirby House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.842 for Kirby House is calculated as follows: ( (80 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 95 Ratings = 4.842
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.776 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kirby House is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 41 registered maximum number of service users is 8.2. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.2 = 0.976
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
