My partners grandmother and my own grandmother have both had such positive experiences from Portland House. The care is outstanding - like a home from home. There is tea and homemade cake on demand and nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff. Warm and welcoming, I have no hesitation in recommending Portland House.
My mother came to Portland House for three weeks respite care and had an amazing experience for her first time in care. My Mum was welcomed with big smiles and my Mum felt at home very quickly. Her needs where met to a very high standard. My Mum is looking forward to her next visit to Portland House and misses the kind and caring staff. Mum enjoyed her daily activities, making new friends and the good food offered throughout the day. Thank you to all at Portland House, my Mum has gone home looking healthy and happy.
An amazing Care Home. Professional, warm staff who genuinely care for all residents and their happiness! Extremely well managed with fantastic facilities and activity opportunities for residents. Resident family members also made to feel so welcome and a part of the home.
I would recommend Portland House. The care my relative received was to the highest standard, the staff and management were so helpful and caring. They always respected my relative's wishes and ensured she had the best quality of life, right to the end. They are like an extended family and I had no concerns about the care. The home is friendly, warm and welcoming, like home from home. I would highly recommend.
Over almost 5 years, the staff have become friends not just carers. They have always treated my father with great care, consideration and like a long lost 'Dad'.
As relatives, both myself and my brothers have always been made welcome.
The care given in the last 2 weeks of my fathers life was way above the call of duty.
Thank you all so much.
Dear Chris, On behalf of the carers at Portland House Care Home, Leicester, I would like to say thank you for the appreciation and review. It has been a pleasure caring for Dad and working with you to make sure we understood and met his needs all the time.
Portland House is a welcoming, safe and loving home with the staff that love what they do. There are a lot of activities for the residents to get involved with during the day such as knitting, arts and crafts, in chair exercises, etc. At Portland House, it’s more just like one big family where staff and residents have a close bond. Residents are always up for a chat and the stories they share are fascinating. I have loved my time volunteering here. Can’t recommend this care home enough!!
The home is welcoming.
I cannot speak highly enough of the love and care given to my mother.
Relatively new management so cannot comment but upgrade works appear not to be a problem as mother recently had a new bathroom floor/suite.
It was voted Care Home of the Year in 2015.
We found Portland House on a Sunday lunch time surprise visit, and were welcomed with a pot of coffee and a really warm welcome from the owner. My mother-in-law has spent two and a half years there and we couldn't be happier with how she has been cared for. It's just like home for her and everyone is really loving to her. They also cared for my father-in-law during his last few weeks and were again faultless in their care and commitment. You couldn't find a better place to be in old age.
Always has a good welcoming atmosphere, never smells unpleasant. Visitors made welcome including refreshments, can always talk about concerns immediately. The staff get on very well and there is always cheerful banter going on. Mum's meal requests are always met and they make an effort to get her favourite things in. Ample activities and outings. Very good service for seeing a doctor when she is ill. The bedrooms are always clean and tidy. Mum would say they are always there when needed and they are all very kind to her.
My mother lives at Portland House and has been a resident there for almost 2 years. I was recommended this home by a friend of mine and as we live nearby it was convenient. I rang and spoke to someone who said I was more than welcome to come round and have a look when I liked. No appointment was needed which was great and suited by busy schedule better! My first impression of the home was that it was welcoming. The staff's approach appears honest and caring towards everyone in the home. I could see everyone in the home was dressed well and smiling which meant they where all well looked after. Two years on, I am happy with one of the toughest decisions I had to make and I can say no one can ever go wrong by choosing Portland House. The staff continue to impress me and my family on how well they have managed to look after my mother.
Whilst searching for a home for my stepfather, we heard about Portland House through a friend. We arranged an appointment and the minute we walked in there was an air of friendliness, capability, professionalism and security about the place. All questions were answered with a degree of honesty and knowledge. My stepfather is frail and has certain problems which are dealt with, with care and sympathy. The staff have time to listen to him and always seems to be popping in to his room for a quick chat. When we leave after a visit we have no trepidations at all. I hope it is around if I need one!
Dad feels really comfortable at Portland. He knows he is well looked after and always has company. My only "complaint" is that laundry is not always folded and put away properly. Socks often go missing but they are really difficult to name! It is a very minor complaint compared to the contentment which dad experiences while living there.
My mother-in-law was in Portland House for two years. My mother is now there, the home is a wonderful place. The residents always come first. All the staff and owners are very helpful with anything my mother needs, nothing is too small. We are made welcome anytime of the day and the owners are available for anything we need to know or discuss. Portland House put on many activities to keep residents occupied and happy, trips out, gardening, indoor games, entertainment and music. Portland House has a very happy atmosphere.
My mum was a guest of Portland House, she was very well looked after until she passed away, now my mother-in-law is there and really happy. She is really looked after and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. The meals are excellent and are a highlight of her day.
I feel dad is extremely well looked after and he is always treated with respect. He is very happy at Portland House and is made to feel to be a part of a loving family. I can visit as often as I like at any time and am always personally welcomed. There is good communication, both written and by phone whenever necessary. The only slight grumble is that there is insufficient care in the handling and distribution of laundry. However, overall, I am very pleased with Portland House.
My mum is a resident and has been here for nearly 3 years, she is very happy here and is well cared for. The food is good and I always get a warm and friendly welcome and always get offered tea, coffee etc. I can come any time of day. I would recommend this home to anyone, as it is like home from home and all staff are very caring and sympathetic to residents always.
