My mother has been in The Poplars for about three years. She is now in the advanced stage of Alzheimer's. Her care has always been excellent. She has always been treated and respected as an individual and the staff have adapted to her needs as her illness has progressed. The staff clearly care very much about the residents. The standard of care is high and always with safety and quality at its core. I am so glad I chose this home for my Mother.

We were lucky to find The Poplars. The CQC rating does not truly reflect this home. We were impressed by the staff - so caring and professional in all aspects. Dad's en-suite room was very comfortable. The dementia wing should be used as an exemplar across the industry. Just sad he didn't live for longer in the fantastic Poplars.

I was shown around The Poplars and had a chance to see the whole of the impressive building. The resident's rooms give privacy yet at the same time they are part of the 'family' of The Poplars.
This part of the family feeling was throughout the building, where the atmosphere is supportive, caring and reassuring to both resident and visitor alike.
I turned a corner and found a 'cameo of care', reflective of this atmosphere. A resident had mispaid her spectacles and one of the staff had found them. She had a hand on the resident's arm, was talking to her reassuringly, describing where she had found them in a gentle, closely personal way. It was a delight to see. It is this 'cameo of care' which reassures me that my sister's needs will be fully met in an excellent way.
She will be able to decline with dignity as she ebbs away.

And me? I am so very pleased that The Poplars welcomed her as a resident.

The care and service provided by The Poplars is excellent. The staff are caring and nice at all times. Of all the care homes I have visited, this is the best. Should I have to go into one, the Poplars would be my choice.

The Poplars is well run with good access at all times, the staff looking after the residents are fantastic, especially in the Willows. All the staff are caring and got the "extra mile" in their care and support of the residents. It is, without a doubt, the strongest asset within The Poplars. Access to management can sometimes be difficult and the garden areas of the home could be better maintained.

My mother recently spent a week on respite within the Poplars and the treatment she received was fabulous. It was certainly like being amongst family with care and attention being shown to her throughout the duration of her stay. I would definitely recommend this care home and also intend to utilise the services again in the future.

The Poplars is an excellent care home with professional, caring and respectful staff. Residents are welcomed into their new home and helped to settle in and feel comfortable really quickly.
Everyone is invited to join in and participate in the daily activities at The Poplars and friends and family members are made to feel welcome at any time.
I would happily recommend The Poplars as a great choice for respite or longer-term care.

Truly a person-centred approach to care.

I have just returned from celebrating my mothers 99th birthday at The Poplars. The staff had decorated her room and brought flowers. Mum was very relaxed and enjoying her day. Four of the family joined her for lunch, set in a decorated private area. There are balloons, wine and a delicious lunch, followed by 99 Ice cream cones all around. There is always a really calm and caring atmosphere ay The Poplars. The staff are kind and very aware of each resident's needs. It's a happy home for its residents.

At very short notice my mum needed respite care. As she had been to The Poplars before and because of the care she had previously received the Poplars was her immediate choice. The staff at The Poplars are amazing. They genuinely care for the residents. I had no worries about mum being at The Poplars as I knew she would be in very safe hands. I will be forever grateful for everything they have done for mum once more. The care received has allowed her to return home once more, where she belongs and wants to be. Thank you!

The care I received during my week's stay was nothing short of outstanding. Everyone even down to the handyman was friendly and welcoming. The care staff are genuine and made me feel very welcome, safe and nothing was too much trouble. They tended to my every need and helped back on my feet following a fall.
Myself and my husband who was visiting on one particular afternoon enjoyed some entertainment organised by the activities lady. My husband commented that you would need to go far to match the afternoon as it was superb. Staff members got up and danced and the singer was brilliant.

I have never had to go into respite before but I know if I had to again then it would be The Poplars I would choose. I couldn't thank them enough. Hats off to all at The Poplars, they are truly amazing. THANK YOU.

I had my sister in this home for 7 years, having brought her down from Scotland until she passed away. The staff looked after her with dignity all the time.

I feel the home needs a gardener to finish the place off and parking more for visitors and staff. It's kept tidy and smart, I know there is building that's been going on but it will be a lot smarter a year ago, we know the place but strangers don't.

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. I am happy to advise that as part of our planned maintenance programme we are currently working on a proposed plan to increase the car parking from 15-27 spaces. The plan also includes for bark mulch and low-level planting to improve the appearance and tidiness our grounds.

My mum has lived at The Poplars for nearly a year. She is very well looked after in terms of her own cleanliness/hygiene, her rooms cleanliness, the quality of the food served and the staff who care for her.

The Poplars is very well managed and the carers are always polite, respectful and well turned out. The provision of entertainment, hairdresser, chiropodist district nurse and trips out is excellent. All of the staff including the caretaker, laundry/housekeeping and catering are excellent.

Charlotte Drury
Charlotte DruryJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2026

I've worked in the caring industry for over 18 years, in a wide range of sectors. I have experience in working with individuals with mental health, learning disabilities, and elderly care.

I started my career as a care assistant and worked my way up to home manager. Alongside that, I have also achieved my level 2 and 3 in health and social care, and have more recently completed my level 4 lead practitioner qualification. Furthermore, I enjoy learning and developing my skills, and I am always keen to do additional training.

I chose to work in the care sector, as I particularly enjoy working with the elderly. I love hearing their stories, sharing a moment of reminiscence, or even having a good old dance. Likewise, I also enjoy problem-solving and ensuring that, as a team, we are delivering and striving for high-quality care.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and spoiling my grandchildren is my favourite thing to do. We enjoy going to the cinema, spending time on the beach, or travelling further afield to visit family.

I'm often found reading when at home, as it helps me to unwind, and my favourite genre is a good crime novel, which keeps me engaged and hooked on a twist. I also enjoy true stories of any kind and getting lost in the story.
