My mummy was a resident at Clanfield Residential Care Home for four years. I can honestly say that I/we as a family couldn't thank the staff and management enough for their outstanding care, commitment, love and dedication to all of the residents. My mummy had an incredible connection with so many of
the carers. They all brought Mummy through some very hard times with laughter, love and song and, as a family, our hearts can never repay the ladies and gentlemen that cared for her on a daily basis.
The meals were fantastic, always home-cooked with fresh vegetables, and they catered for all of Mummy's whims. There's always lots of fabulous, fun entertainment going on daily for residents to join in with if their mood is right. They organise fun days and family days, where we were able to have a fun in the stunning grounds (weather permitting) and if not, everyone could join in inside the beautiful 'home from home' interiors. Mummy's final years were all we could ask for.
Reply from Craig Campbell, Partner at Clanfield Residential Care HomeThank you for such a heartwarming review. She was indeed a lovely lady who enjoyed fun and laughter and will always be remembered at Clanfield.

Clanfield is out of touch with current standards. Person-centred care isn’t practised; it seems to be run to suit the management rather than the residents. It lacks investment in staff and facilities. Carers try their very best but not enough are employed to offer good quality care. Some speak without
respect and many agency staff are used. Food is poor, bedrooms are tatty with furniture falling apart and old smelly carpets. Residents’ quality of life is poor; most spend their days stuck in front of a TV. Nice gardens but not used, Nan only taken outside twice in a whole year. No activities are offered over weekends and more are needed in the week. As a visitor it feels unwelcoming, times are restricted and there’s nowhere to sit and talk with our relative. Dementia residents are left unsupervised to mix with the others which often causes problems, upset and distress for all. Owners/managers are defensive when challenged and suggestions for even basic improvements were repeatedly ignored.
Reply from Craig Campbell, Partner at Clanfield Residential Care HomeThank you for the feedback, character limits prevent a fuller response. I would’ve preferred discussing the issues you raised during the 13 months your nan was in our care. As an independent care provider of 40 years, we’re proud of the care we provide as an openly dementia-friendly home. Our CQC report of 2022 rated GOOD, our NNC Monitoring Inspection report 08/2023, our 2023 Resident & Family Quality Audit all praised the open and the inclusive nature of our service, the level of our care, and support provided to our residents. Effective local authority funding would allow more cosmetic improvements, however, the reality of accepting local authority funded care, comes with many caveats. We’re not and never will be an exclusive non-inclusive care provider. Many, of our staff are long-serving and go the extra mile. We do use agency staff, as other providers do where required. We are proud of our staff. As always, we strive to improve. Thank you.

Our 97-year-old mum spent the last few months of her life in the care of the remarkable staff at Clanfield Residential Care Home. Understandably, Mum wanted to be at home but the staff there made her time the best it could be. They treated her with great kindness and as a family, we felt communication
with us was excellent and the family felt supported by the staff too. Thanks to all of you.

Clanfield is a marvellous caring home for my Father who lives with advancing dementia. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and they try every way to meet my Father’s needs, which at times can be challenging.
Earlier in the year, my Mother passed away at Clanfield and management put everything
in place to allow my parents to be together for her end of life. They were simply amazing.
The food served is always very appetising and wonderfully homemade. My Father always clears his plate and will have seconds! There is a plan in place for updating premises and even with the pandemic going on improvements are still happening.
I would have no hesitation at recommending Clanfield without hesitation to anyone looking for a Care Home.

My parents have been living at Clanfield for two years. They, and I, have found the level of care exemplary. They are surrounded by loving and caring professionals who provide a wonderful family atmosphere. My parents are valued, respected and treated with dignity at all times. They are encouraged to
join in daily activities and are stimulated by visiting entertainers such as singers, bands, etc. and even have a visit from Santa each year!
In warmer weather they enjoy sitting in the garden, eating meals there if they wish. Lovely, home-cooked meals and cakes are in always in abundance; birthday cakes are baked to celebrate each resident's special day.
Relatives are warmly invited and encouraged to take part in regular events, for example, the annual bonfire and fireworks party, and a fully inclusive Sports Day.
A very special home full of very special people.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.607)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.607) out of 10 for Clanfield Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.907 for Clanfield Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (98 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 4.907
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Clanfield Residential Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
