My dear mum went to Victoria House in August 2015 after a lot of persuasion to leave her own home, after evidently not being able to cope with everyday life. She soon fitted in and loved the company and chat with the staff and other residents in the home, making many friends. We loved the fact that
we could visit any time and for however long we wanted. It really was home from home. She was very happy at Victoria House until the end of her days and we will be eternally grateful for everything the wonderful staff did for her.

Our Mum spent time in Victoria House after a stay in hospital and we were delighted to see her return to her happy, smiley self after just a few days at Victoria House. All the staff are so lovely and caring and she was well looked after and treated with dignity and respect. The staff do a brilliant
job in a spotlessly clean home and they all go out of their way for their residents. Thank you all so much. It was such a comfort to us to know she was being well cared for.

My Mother is in Victoria House and the staff are great with her - Mum is quite a character and can sometimes be a little demanding! She doesn't hear very well or see very well and the staff go out of their way to make life easier for her. My Father-in-law is also in Vitoria House, he has dementia and
isn't at his best - but again - the staff are good with him. Thanks to the Team for all your hard work.

My aunt spent a few weeks in hospital and then moved to Victoria House, where she decided she would remain rather than returning to her home address. My aunt spent a couple of months at Victoria House before passing away peacefully, in the care home, on the 10th March. During the time that my aunt was
living at Victoria House she was extremely well looked after by a team of dedicated and caring people, who treated her with dignity and respect at all times. Nothing was too much trouble. My aunt enjoyed the good company of other residents and the staff and engaged in the varied daily social activities that were provided to all. My family and I owe a debt of gratitude to all the staff at Victoria House, that we can never repay. We had peace of mind that my aunt was safe, happy and well cared for. Thank you.

My mum lived at Victoria House for over two years, including during the Covid outbreak, when we couldn’t see her or provide any care to her. She passed away yesterday having lived with dementia.
I feel very passionately about the care that Mum received from the managers and staff at Victoria House.
She was shown genuine love and care. She was treated with dignity and respect. I could rest easy knowing the staff would look after her when we could not. I owe the team at Victoria a debt of gratitude, that I will never be able to fully articulate or repay. So I say a heartfelt thank you to them and publish this review here in the hope it helps others feel confident their loved ones will receive excellent care, if they move into Victoria House.

I asked the home manager to come to meet my parents and assess dad for admission in December 2020, then again in October 2021. On both occasions, my parents refused admission at the final hurdle. Dad had a fall and ended in hospital a week ago. I rang Victoria House in desperation the day after admission
and without any hesitation, they offered a bed for Dad and he was discharged into their care two days ago. I have visited Dad today with my mum and I found him to be clean, shaved, eating and talking about what was happening in the home. Dad never once asked to come home and asked a member of staff to take him back to his room. I left feeling that Dad was happy with his own situation, concerned about my mum and that as hard as it is, we have made the right decision. Throughout all of this the home manager has been completely supportive of me and concerned for my welfare. That concern and support was echoed by all of the staff that we met today in the home.

As a family we were very apprehensive about finding a home for our nan, we had heard good things about Victoria House, from the initial contact to nan moving in staff have been so helpful! Nan hasn’t been here long but in the time she has, it’s clear to see she has improved, she loves the food and she’s
enjoying the company of others who have also been so friendly with her. We looked around a few places but it was clear to us that Victoria House was the one for nan, we are so grateful they’ve made her so welcome and made the transition of moving from her own home to somewhere as easy as it could be! After a few moves from hospital to respite, we knew we wanted to find nan the best home we could. We contacted Victoria House and the help and guidance we received was second to none. The home has a lovely atmosphere with laughter and kindness being heard all over, I am so confident my nan will be very
happy here. The home is lovely and clean and homely, all the staff are kind and friendly and take the time to not only find out what she needs but what she would like! It’s never a nice thing to have to do with a loved one but we all feel very satisfied with the care nan is receiving.

I could write an essay but basically we needed a care home for my nan who was relocating from another county. I cannot express enough the hard work the manager put into helping my family with this move as we had no idea what to do and how hard this was. Without her help it wouldn’t have happened as
quick as it did. It wasn’t an easy move as my nan was ill before she arrived and came from hospital rather than her own home. This made it harder for her to settle however, on her arrival there were a team of carers to greet my nan, my mum and myself to welcome us all. They held my Nan’s hand and chatted to her and didn’t leave her side. From then on they have helped build on her confidence, her self esteem to help settle her in, her health has improved immensely, she is now walking again after loosing the ability to walk from being in hospital before she arrived, she has made so many friends with the other residents and joins in with all the activities. They are all amazing.

I brought my Nan into Victoria House and was welcomed with a big hello and smile that put Nan at ease. The care staff all greeted Nan, offered her a cup of tea. Which Nan loved as she was dying for a hot drink. The room was lovely and clean. smelt lovely too. Nan was amazed how lovely everyone was.
Would recommend to anyone. Lovely home.

Victoria House is an excellent care home, with a warm and family caring environment. As soon as we first visited the home we knew it would be the right place for my Mother to be safely looked after, a home away from home. All the staff are so friendly, positive, thoughtful and caring and because they
remain constant you can build up a relationship. I am always kept updated with anything I need to know about my Mother's care and well-being. The residents are encouraged to join in the activities such as bingo, arts and crafts. My Mother has settled in well and is very happy, enjoying daily banter with all the carers. During the pandemic the home has continued to excel with the daily challenges and been even more support to the residents due to the restrictions on visiting. I can highly recommend Victoria House!

Although it has been very difficult throughout the pandemic not being able to visit my mum, we have been communicating throughout and I am comforted by the fact that she has been extremely well looked after. Since day one, the care home has been on top of the situation and I have been impressed by the
level of professionalism taken throughout. I was actually able to visit this week, for the first time in over a year and the staff are as friendly as ever and my mother couldn't speak highly enough of the care she has received. A huge thanks to everyone at Victoria House.

I just wish that my niece would be encouraged to do more, have the TV put on in her room etc. She does not get enough mental stimulation. I appreciate it is of her own request but she is losing her social skills. She falls asleep when I visit her.

My friend has been a resident since June 2020. On arriving at the home, she was welcomed in a friendly manner and immediately made to feel part of the family at Victoria House. The staff have always kept me informed of my friend's welfare and contacted me if there has been a problem. Whilst I haven’t
been able to visit on regular basis, (due to Covid 19) when I have visited, I have been welcomed by the staff and could see they are caring to all. My mind is at rest for the care she is receiving. Thank you very much.

I have nothing but praise for the wonderful team at Victoria House. The care for my mother has been exceptional, all members of staff show empathy and care for her, although her dementia has given them many challenges over the years. The home is a lovely modern purpose-built unit, is cheerfully decorated,
has modern furniture and is always clean. The staff are always welcoming and informative on Mum’s current physical and mental health. I feel we have been very lucky in finding this home for Mum.

I’d been looking after my friend for many years and then the time came for her to go into a care home. I and her family were very apprehensive. I rang Victoria House and explained my worries. From the get go, I was reassured. When I looked around it was beautiful, so homely. The staff couldn’t do enough
for us and put our minds at rest from the very start. This great service has continued and even through these difficult times, we have been reassured. My friend is more than happy there. She plays bingo, does arts and crafts and has made some great friends. Sometimes I feel left out because I ring and she’s to busy to talk as she’s at activities. I can’t praise Victoria House or the staff enough.

After having dealt with numerous care homes in my previous employment as a Police Officer and seeing first hand the varying standards of care and standards of location, accommodation and surroundings plus the calibre and commitment of staff, I can say without question Victoria House in my opinion rates
highly in all areas. I have had a long-running relationship with this home who are/have looked after several elderly family members over the years and now would not entrust their care with anybody else. The surroundings are pleasant and inviting, the grounds and activities are second to none but most importantly is that you are welcomed by the staff and that anything asked it never a problem or an inconvenience. I highly recommend if you find yourself looking for a placement for an elderly loved one you ring them up for a chat you will not be disappointed in the fact that your loved one is receiving second to none professional care by staff who do care.

I am currently a Team Leader at Victoria House. I started as a Domestic in 1992 and have worked here through many job roles over my 30-year service.


Victoria House has a special place in my heart, its my second home and my extended family.


The service users are happy and content, and family members often comment how happy their loved ones are.


We excel at providing person-centred care, promoting independence and excellent palliative care. I have known many staff to go above and beyond to ensure someone’s last days are comfortable and in compliance with their wishes.


Shaw healthcare have supported me throughout my progression, and provided many training opportunities. To enhance my skills and knowledge. I love my job and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

I was made redundant in the job that I loved in March. I knew I had to go to work but I was really unsure on what I wanted to do.
Id worked in care previously but, wasn’t a 100% sure if it was exactly what I wanted to do.
I saw on Facebook that Victoria House was doing some fundraising for a local man and I could join in in by zoom.
When I did I was blown away by the atmosphere in the home, it felt as though I was their joining in and I thought “I want to be part of that”.


I applied for a job straight away and I joined last week. I haven’t been disappointed, everyone’s so friendly and they are literally like an extended family to each other here. I was very apprehensive being the “new girl” but everyone’s made me feel very welcome I look forward to my future at Victoria House.

I started working at Victoria House alongside school when I was 16 as a Bank Domestic Assistant, and since leaving school I am now have permanent hours as a Catering Assistant.
As a first job, I have felt extremely supported by everyone here and really enjoy doing both roles.
Victoria House has such a homely atmosphere and welcomes everyone in, it truly is like a second family here.
I am looking forward to progressing into a support role and gaining more experience.

I have worked at Victoria House for 27 years, I started out as a Domestic Assistant and went on to do Care. I have also worked in the kitchen as a Kitchen Assistant and a Cook.
I have enjoyed all my roles working here over the years and have worked with and still do, some lovely, genuine, hard working people. When you walk through the front of Victoria House, you will notice what a friendly, welcoming and homely place it is, this is down to the caring staff that work here making Victoria House a lovely place to work and live.
This reflects in the residents as they are happy and always saying what a homely environment Victoria House is.
They have a variety of daily activities, bingo, quizzes, themed food evenings etc.
The hairdressers visits also once a week to do their hair if they wish to have it done.
The last 18 months since Covid has been about has been very tough but, with all the staff pulling together, we have tried to maintain as much normality as possible for our residents.

After 4 years, I moved to the day shift where I have worked on many roles.

I take my job in the Laundry very seriously and wash their clothes and return them like I would my own. I love a Label.

I left and recently returned because I missed it so much, and everyone welcomed me back with open arms. I feel supported by the Manager in my role, and staff and residents are lovely and friendly.

I have been employed in the care sector since 1993 , firstly with the NNCC, private sector then with Shaw Healthcare from 2010, starting at Sandalwood Court as a Deputy Manager and then progressing to Service Manager in 2011, as my colleague will all agree, Victoria House is a home from home. The Team work at Victoria House is exceptional and I am very proud to be the Manager at Victoria House. No two days are the same, during this pandemic we have become, experts in fields we knew nothing about but we have achieved the very best of care our resident’s deserve, we have kept them safe and this is all down to the dedication of the staff within Victoria House and of course the support the residents have given to us, keep going as we are all in the same boat and we have all rowed together.
