It was never considered that I would need a care home, for my friend, as her health declined and I couldn't find enough reliable home care. The Hazelford was kind enough to take my friend on a short stay basis as we had nowhere else to go. They were very accommodating, as the situation changed, they
took my friend in full time. The food is good (she especially likes the puddings). They have lots of activities and things to keep the resident's busy. Before lockdown, entertainer's came in. The rooms and building are spotless, and they have clean clothes daily (all ironed and hung up). Time is taken on making sure they are comfortable, and should a mishap occur, they are changed and not left in a mess. The garden is lovely, and residents can sit outside. The staff have always been friendly and are prepared to listen to any issues etc.

The staff at Hazelford are all super professional and friendly. They have taken care of mum really well not just physically but emotionally, helping her come to terms with her new home. The home is really clean and pleasant to visit with a lovely outlook onto the garden and river.

My mother has been in Hazelford Care home for 3 years. She has been extremely happy due to outstanding care. The carers at Hazelford make a huge effort to get to know each person and develop a strong bond with the residents. Mum has a lovely room which she sees as home. The food is excellent, and the
surroundings very pleasant.

I cannot praise the staff enough. They have provided a great service under extremely difficult circumstances. They obviously care about delivering an excellent standard of care. Nothing is too much trouble, and they have gone above and beyond my expectations, keeping me informed and updated. I would
recommend The Hazelford without hesitation.

Small privately run personal care home, great staff who really care about the residents. So glad that my brother and I can sleep at night knowing our father has the support and help he requires around the clock. Despite the challenges of Covid and lockdown, my father has settled in well and has put
on weight; he’s in better shape than he has been for years. Great service from all of the staff and a lovely location. Keep up the great work!

My mother has been a private resident of the care home at Hazleford for 5-years. She suffers from Dementia. Throughout her stay, the overwhelming feature has been the quality of the staff and their care of my mother. This has continued under the new ownership and during the pandemic (and floods), with
all its challenges particularly the lack of visiting rights. Now we seem to be emerging from the other side, I hope that more normal activities can recommence and the ability to visit is widened. The staff deserve the rest.

Mum has been a resident at Hazelford for over a year now, throughout the covid months. She has been so well cared for throughout this time, which has helped my sister and I cope with not seeing her regularly.
The staff are all very professional alongside being caring and concerned for the physical
and emotional wellbeing of the residents. They take pride in the fact they are privileged to work in their home.
We are updated regularly through Zoom meetings and emails, and the staff are happy to chat when passing the phone to Mum.
It is a difficult time when the need to place a relative in a care home comes around, however, the staff at Hazelford have made it easy to know we have made the right choice because Mum is happy, and we can’t thank them enough!

My sister has been a resident at The Hazelford Residential Home for some 15 months. I am very content with the quality of provision. The home is attractively set on a bank of the River Trent and enjoys attractive and well-kept grounds. While the building is relatively old, it is kept in a sound condition.
The rooms are clean and nicely furnished. The meals are good and varied. Attention is given to their presentation.
However, it is the quality of care of residents which in my mind scores highly. The residents belong to a small and family run home where their individual needs are recognised and addressed. The relatively low turnover of staff in itself is significant but importantly this ensures continuity of care. Inevitably on occasions, I raise concerns. I am listened to and matters are addressed. It is a real pleasure to see staff mingling with residents and always being conspicuous.
Overall, this is a happy community where visitors are welcomed. Activities are provided for residents and many take advantage of these. Above all else, the home is well managed. It knows what it wishes to achieve and while resources are finite, is successful in providing a genuine home for some very demanding residents who always are allowed to retain their dignity.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.525)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.525) out of 10 for The Hazelford Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.550 for The Hazelford Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (144 Excellents x 5) + (57 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 220 Ratings = 4.55
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Hazelford Residential Home is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
