Barnby Court has 23 bedrooms, all of which have a sink within; they are individually and tastefully decorated. Externally there is a beautiful enclosed garden with seating. An active lifestyle is encouraged and a varied activities programme tailored to individual interests is offered.
The home is located centrally within Barnby Moor. There are good road connections an the home is easily accessible from the A638 and A1. It is approximately 3 miles north of Retford.
Barnby Court has a 'Good' CQC rating (December 2020) and is a band 4 Nottinghamshire County Council Quality Rating and has a top band 5 Food Hygiene rating (March 2023).

Whenever I telephone to see how my wife is I am always impressed that whichever member of staff answers is always fully aware of my wife's current situation, even down to such detail as having her hair washed or what she has eaten that day. In these difficult times of lockdown, I have received regular updates and even pictures, reassuring me that my wife is receiving the best possible care and attention.
Staff are always friendly and dad gets looked after well. The cleanliness is good and it's always warm! Security on/off premises is good.

I feel that Mum is cared for very well at Barnby Court. The staff re knowledgeable in dietary requirements and are on the ball when Mum's health care changes. The activities provided in the home are enjoyed by Mum and the other residents. The meals provided by the home are of a high standard.

Mum went into Barnby at the end of 2017, the staff have been amazing with her, very professional and always caring which is so important. She was happy and settled and the rest of the family knew that she was well cared for. Mum was quite picky with her food but nothing was ever too much trouble....
Mum went into Barnby at the end of 2017, the staff have been amazing with her, very professional and always caring which is so important. Unfortunately mum passed away in June and at what was a very difficult time for us, the staff where amazing, looking after both mum and also us as we sat with her through the days and nights. The care that they showed mum was so helpful to us and they knew just what to do at all times. I will always be very grateful to Barnby for helping us with mum and making her last months happy and stable.

Thank you for your kind comments in relation to the staff and the home overall. The comfort, welfare, and wellbeing of all our residents, visitors and staff is paramount to us at Barnby Court. I am pleased to inform you that contractors have been on site and repaired two of the main radiators in the front lounge, which has had an immediate impact on the sitting room, making it more comfortable. Another contractor arrived on site last week and has looked at fitting thermostatic controls on some radiators. Once the work is fully completed it will enable individual radiators to be turned up and down to make more a comfortable temperature according to the resident’s wishes.
My mum has been a resident in Barnby Court for just over 2 years now. And she seems very happy there. In the times that I visit, staff seem to be very conscientious in their work and the residents look to be happy in the environment.

Thank you for raising your concerns on carehomes.co.uk as we appreciate any feedback so we can continually improve our care to Residents, but firstly we wish to offer our condolences to you on the loss of your mother. This has been investigated and it was concluded that as your mother’s care needs changed from residential to requiring nursing care. Unfortunately, Barnby Court does not provide nursing care, so it was deemed to be in your mother’s best interest to move her to a nursing care home. This was a medical decision so that her needs could be met appropriately and safely, which you were kept informed about by the home. Once again I am sorry for the distress this has caused you but this was not a decision made by the home but the palliative care team in your mother’s best interest. If you would like to discuss your concerns further in a meeting, please contact us by telephone on 01325 351100 for a convenient time to be organised.

The staff are always welcoming and helpful. The place is clean and well staffed. My friend has been here 18 months now and has improved greatly since living here. She was previously at home with daily carers and her overall health is much better now. All due to regular meals and good care!

This was only my second visit to the home since my mum went in, I don't live in Nottinghamshire so I don't have much experience of this home. I think the staff are brilliant and they all seemed to get on well with mum. I personally don't have anything bad to say about the place but my experience is limited to the answer to "activities" below as I haven't seen any. Mum now seems to have settled there so as long as she's happy I'm happy.

Barnby Court enhanced the company portfolio in February 2023, and it has been a pleasure to see the home and team embrace our company values. We are working hard to improve the environment piece by piece while maintaining our beautiful building's history and presence within the village, and it has been an absolute pleasure seeing the home grow, evolve and move forward over this time.

I’ve worked in care homes for over 28 years now, qualified with Level 2 and 3 in Health & Social Care, Level 5 Management of Adult Residential Health & Social Care Settings and a Level 7 CMI Strategic Management qualification. I followed my mum into the job by volunteering at our local care home where she worked; she had also followed her mum into care, as my nana was the Matron of a council care home for 20 years.Everything I do makes me happy in my role, but nothing more so than seeing our residents smile and knowing the staff feel supported and also enjoy their jobs, as it can be long and at times difficult hours in care work.
Over the years, I have worked in 12 different homes; some of those were for the same company as I progressed, but to me, Farthings outweighed all previous experiences through my career. As the Registered Manager, I felt happy and content there for 8 years. I woke every day happy to go to work. Even through difficult times in the industry, I always felt supported and encouraged by the Directors and the family as a whole.
My favourite thing overall is that the company is family-run, but led by the residents' wants and wishes. Ashall Care Ltd go above and beyond to ensure the residents receive everything they need, and the Ashall Care team all together really get on and enjoy working together.
In February 2023, Ashall Care was enhanced as a company when we took over Barnby Court Care Home. It was a privilege to support Barnby Court take on Ashall Care's shared Values and envelop our vision. It was then my pleasure to take on the Operations Manager position and CQC Registered Nominated Individual role for the company, working across both Farthings and Barnby Court, supporting the Management team in both homes and driving the business forward.

Jacqui has always had a passion for helping others. At a young age, she extended her helping hand and provided company for her elderly neighbour, whom she continued to support throughout her teenage years. Jacqui feels that making a difference in someone's life is a truly special position to be in.
Jacqui worked as a deputy manager here at Barnby Court, and her passion and drive were recognised as a true asset to Ashall Care, and so the natural progression for Jacqui was to step into the Home Manager role in November 2025 before working hard to achieve her CQC registration in May 2026.
