The care given to my mum at South Moor Lodge is excellent. All the staff are genuinely caring and treat my mum and all the residents with respect and affection. They are professional, knowledgeable and will look for innovative solutions to the sometimes demanding consequences of dementia. The management
have been very supportive, welcoming and involved. The activities coordinator is wonderful and makes South Moor feel like a home with entertainment. My sister and I are very happy mum is cared for at South Moor Lodge Care Home.

The care home is well run but would benefit for more caring staff.
The rooms are cleaned daily to a high standard. Visitors are made welcome and treated accordingly.

My husband and I visit our brother-in-law with my sister quite often, we have always thought how lovely it is here, even to the point of wanting to stay hear when it's our time for a care home. The staff are just brilliant and would do everything to make things happy for our brother-in-law and all the
residents here. They are also, very good to our sister, us and all visitors.

My husband has just been in South Moor Lodge overnight. The food is excellent and the staff are caring. I did have an issue over painkillers not being issued but it was a misunderstanding and after a discussion with the manageress, who is a very caring person, who explained the situation, I feel happy
that this matter was resolved. Thanks.

My mother moved here in June 2017 after a fall and hospital stay. Originally for respite but she decided that she wanted to stay. We were soon offered a newly-refurbished room, a considerable improvement with walk-in wardrobe and en-suite wetroom. It is kept very clean for her.
Number one asset at
Southmoor is the staff, who are caring, friendly and never impatient. This applies to agency staff also. The laundry is very good.
The food has been excellent from the start and my mum is eating better now than she has for years. Her little whims are well catered for.
In recent times the activities have become much more varied. There was even a birthday party for my mum recently with mocktails, cake and armchair dancing! An added bonus is the new Facebook page, which is good for me living 200 miles away being able to see what my mum is up to.
There are ongoing improvements which should enhance the day to day living of those who live here.

Review from Claire (Granddaughter of Resident) published on 27 February 2019 Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5
Our hopes were high that we could begin to stop worrying about mum/grandma once she was being cared for in a home. Southmoor Lodge sounded promising as the company's mission was to provide the 'highest standards of care'. Unfortunately, this home fell way short of those aspirations.

The home is spacious

and mum/grandma enjoyed a beautiful room. Many of the staff were caring and hard-working, however, despite management denial, they were clearly very stretched. It was on occasions difficult to find care staff at all. Residents would be seeking aid for those that couldn't mobilise themselves.

We felt the needs of mum/grandma could not be met by the home. It was both sad and concerning that despite frequent requests, a lady so particular about her personal hygiene and who was prone to infections, went weeks without a bath or shower.

We felt like we were constantly chasing up management over concerns, were frequently fobbed off and overall left disappointed by Southmoor Lodge.

Reply from Lisa McAnulty, Manager at South Moor Lodge Care HomeThank you for taking the time to write a review and for your comments. I’m sorry that you and your family feel disappointed in South Moor Lodge, we work hard to make sure all residents and their family have a positive experience with us and on this occasion, we fell short of those standards. During the time your mother/grandmother was with us we experienced a sudden increase in occupancy leading up to Christmas, which did temporarily put a lot of strain on our staff despite increased staffing levels. We will avoid a similar situation in the future and make sure any new residents join us gradually.

Our Managing Director would like to have a conversation with you to get more detailed feedback about the issue’s your family had at South Moor Lodge and how we can do better in future, would it be possible for you to get in touch and provide your contact details so he can give you a call (info@jasminehealthcare.co.uk) Again please accept my apologies and our assurance we have taken action on the points highlighted in your review.

Relative with Alzheimer in their 90's entered South Moor Lodge. Overall, all aspects of home and care is very good. Management supportive, especially the assistant manager who supported the family with social services assessment - very very good.
Housekeeper excellent in their duties and in their cheery
upbeat personality as was the cleaner, working under the housekeeper.
Very supportive team - ready to listen and take on board any concerns.

I am highly delighted with all aspects of care my friend has received. The staff are very friendly and eager to help whenever the need arises. It would be nice to have heating in the shower room but that is a small 'niggle'. I would be quite happy to live here myself if the need arose!

The home feels homely, comfortable, with good access to all areas. Meals appear good, though more fresh fruit perhaps or fruit available in lounges.

Medical prescriptions seem slow to become dispensed. The activity programme appears to be improving though activities to stimulate all residents are

important even those without dementia.

Generally satisfied that our parent is now a resident.

I cannot praise this care home highly enough. Every member of staff showed the utmost care and respect to not only my uncle but to ourselves as his family when we had no idea what to sort out first and where to get help and advice.
I would be extremely happy to recommend any member of our family or
other friends relations to move here.
I will be forever grateful to the manager and deputy manager for making our situation and transition go smoothly.

This is the third time I have enjoyed the hospitality of Southmoor Lodge as a self-funded guest. I have always received a warm welcome and regard many of the staff as old friends. The rooms I have occupied have always been pleasant and kept very warm and comfortable.
The staff, almost without exception,
have been kind caring and compassionate and always so willing to please.
Although I am a rather fussy eater, the catering has been of a high standard and I have enjoyed my meals. The maintenance of the premises is of a very good standard, carried out by a very competent and pleasant gentleman. I have always had clean clothes to wear - the laundry is run very efficiently, again, by a most pleasant and helpful lady.
I have nothing but praise for the on-site management and her staff who do a very difficult job indeed to a very high standard. I have great admiration for them.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.687)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.687) out of 10 for South Moor Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.687 for South Moor Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (207 Excellents x 5) + (40 Goods x 4) + (19 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 268 Ratings = 4.687
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for South Moor Lodge Care Home is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 54 registered maximum number of service users is 10.8, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
