The care provided ensures that residents are looked after well and are safe. If there is a problem I am contacted and I am kept informed of any follow-up appointments/treatments etc. The current manager is very approachable, willing to listen and act to address concerns. The home is clean. The meals
are good and the staff friendly and helpful.

The security is very strong with the identification of the visitors an essential part of the entry to the care home. On every visit, I have found the care home very clean and the staff very welcoming, very dedicated professional and very caring to the residents whose every need is attended to by the
carers. If I visit on Wednesday I join in the exercises with the lady I visit and those taking part. These exercises seem to meet their needs regarding physical activities, so the home is first class.

I am extremely satisfied and pleased with the overall care my father is receiving. The manager, senior staff and carers are very professional, but more importantly, very caring and patient with the residents. The home is clean and well kept with no obvious adverse odours. The manager is on hand at any
time she is working, and proficient. She also makes herself available and approachable to residents and visitors.

Mum moved into Laburnum House in Dec 2013. We took her around a number of homes and mum chose Laburnum House. She was happy to stay and made some nice friends, mum loved to walk around and have a chat with the other ladies. Things changed when she had a fall and stopped walking. Mum got all the help
and care she needed from the staff. Sadly mum did not recover, she received good care and was treated with dignity. A big thank you to all who took care of our special lady.

On the whole, everything is fine. Staff are very helpful. I don't like having my last meal at 3.45 pm.

Do not like my room not having hot water and funny taps.

The home itself has a nice friendly clean atmosphere, mainly due to the frontline staff. The biggest problem seems there are especially at weekends, there seems to be not enough staff, with many residents having dementia and frailty. A lot of time is needed to help them, at meal times the service, whilst
friendly is rushed due to work overload and sometimes meals can be taken away before being eaten, again, not enough staff ensuring residents eat enough. My friend, who is 104 years old has been left without a blanket three times when I visited my friend on Sundays. She has had, from her personal trolley items taken away. She tries to complain but repeatedly until something is done, not enough staff to look after the frailer residents.

As a visitor, I cannot comment on residents rooms or value for money. I have only visited the hairdressing salon excellent. I have visited each week for over twelve months and have been treated very well by all the staff. They are friendly and kind to the residents and show them respect at all times.
The staff take great care when dealing with residents they are aware of any problems with the residents.

My Aunt (aged 104 years) has been a resident at Laburnum House since July 2015 and has enjoyed her stay. The staff are caring and compassionate dong their best to provide the residents with the care they deserve, the staff are very responsive to any requests from relatives and residents. The rooms are
clean and the food is good, varied and well prepared.

My family and Aunt are happy with the care she receives and although restricted in movement due to physical/clinical conditions she does receive appropriate help from the care staff. I have always found the care staff and management to be approachable, the managers being willing to discuss any concerns at any time and carry out reviews on my Aunt with myself and other appropriate relatives. The home provides a range of activities/events and encourages residents and relatives to take part where possible. I must stress that as my Aunt's next of kin only myself would post a genuine review of her care at Laburnum House.

My mother has been a resident since early 2010 and I have been pleased with the care she receives. The house itself is purpose built for its use and works well. I have always got on well with the staff who are always friendly towards me and my mother. I visit approximately three to four times a weeks
so I see at first hand how well my mother is treated. I do not worry about her well-being because I know how well she is being treated.

My nanna joined Laburnum House in 2015 and from our first viewing found it a clean, well-equipped care home with friendly, helpful staff. The food served is of a high standard also. They integrate families too by having regular parties at Christmas and in summer. Regular music is played and other activities.
My nanna is happy there which is what matters the most to me.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.905) out of 10 for Laburnum House Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 53 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 53 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.905 for Laburnum House Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (581 Excellents x 5) + (46 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 634 Ratings = 4.905
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Laburnum House Care Centre is based on 53 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 53 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Edelyn Napa

Job Title: General Manager Joined: 2005

Edelyn was born and raised in the Philippines and the first industry she worked in was worlds away from care work too. Initially training and working in chemical engineering, Edelyn eventually found work as a production manager before training as an ISO auditor for eleven years.

But it wasn’t until 2004 that she found her true calling, when she decided to begin studying basic nursing in preparation for a move to the UK.

The Bloomcare family was excited to be able to welcome Edelyn in May 2005. The work came naturally to Edelyn and she soon began to climb the management ladder, eventually being chosen to manage the first Bloomcare home that we opened in Greater Manchester: Laburnum House. This was a huge responsibility and one that we felt we could only trust to Edelyn.

With our support, Edelyn has worked through various NVQ qualifications, and her wealth and variety of past experience has gifted her with the ability to communicate effectively with all kinds of people, as well as providing her with an indispensable set of leadership skills. All of these traits are central to the way that she runs Laburnum House. Everything that Edelyn and her staff do is carried out with the single goal of providing her residents with the highest level of bespoke care, with a focus on promoting independence, fostering healthy friendships, and retaining quality of life.
