The staff at Royley House are very welcoming and caring. Excellent activities for the residents. Bedrooms are clean warm and cosy and the lounges are bright and spacious. The cleanliness of the home is excellent. We are really pleased with the care our mother is receiving and know she is safe and well
looked after.

Royley House has cared for my father with love, dignity, and grace.
They have gone above and beyond in their care for my father and I will be forever grateful to each member of staff there.
The rooms are lovely, the food is excellent, and the laundry service is really good. Lots of very interesting
activities and outings.
I have nothing but good to say about Royley House.

My mother enjoyed her stay at Royley House, she stated she was looked after by all the staff extremely well. Her room was very clean and comfortable. As my mother is blind, the staff helped her constantly with her personal care.

My mother moved into Royley House at the beginning of July 2024 with a huge amount of fear and trepidation as she grew up in a children's home due to the war. Her experience there meant that all her life she had feared growing old and needing to move into a care home. However, she visited Royley House
and was greatly impressed by the facilities and the lovely welcome from staff that she received. We, as a family, were very nervous as to how she would settle or if she would settle at all. Well, our fears were unfounded as my mum made friends very quickly and was greatly impressed by the calm gentle and caring approach of the staff. She loves all her meals and loves her very smart room with a gorgeous bathroom. She has thrived since arriving and enjoys the activities that the home provides for her. After living alone for five years, she has enjoyed having the company of other residents but knows if she wants peace and quiet, she can go to her room anytime. The staff are excellent and approachable.

Mum went for 3 weeks respite and everybody was very supportive especially the manager when mum was refusing to go in. After a few days, Mum said she was very comfortable and seemed to join in with the many activities. Mum's room was really nice and everywhere was kept very clean. Thank you to everyone
at Royley House for making Mum's stay as comfortable and safe as possible.

Mum has been a resident since July. Staff are friendly, chatty and always have a smile on their faces. Mum does not have the Health POA and therefore we have no access to the care system/family app, but no matter how frequently we ask about how Mum is doing in certain areas, we are never made to feel
we are a nuisance. The standard of cleanliness is very high and the food always looks and smells delicious. It's great that there is now an activities lady who is superb, and staff also seem to get involved and encourage all residents to take part. It has made such a big difference to everyone. Whilst Mum doesn't always join in, we are so pleased there is someone in place now. Relatives meetings are held from time to time and are a great opportunity to hear from the management team and other relatives. Emphasis at the meetings from management is for feedback to be given - good or bad.

My husband came for a two-week respite and I couldn't fault any part of the experience. From first home visit to check home would be suitable, to a member of staff from each department introducing themselves on his first day. He was encouraged to join in but never forced. I would definitely consider
this home for long-term care in the future.

My dad was admitted to Royley House initially for a month's respite after hospital discharge. However, sadly my dad only lived for one week after arriving at Royley House. During just that one week, the whole staff team, manager and deputy manager treated my dad as a family member. They honestly could
not do enough for him to ensure he was as comfortable as possible. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them and always greeted us with smiles and cups of tea and biscuits. We are so sad that Dad did not get to experience this beautiful care home to the full. The lovely rooms, dining rooms and entertainment and the wonderful staff and management team. We will always be eternally grateful for all you did to help Dad. Thank you.

Raised safeguarding concerns, now been served notice to leave! No activities, poor security staff very nice but the management is ineffective.
It appears the answer to the safeguarding issues is to move the person at risk somewhere else, surely not the right response.
Reply from Cameron Davies, Marketing Executive at Royley House Care HomeThank you for reaching out, we’re sorry to hear you’ve had a negative experience at one of our homes. Following a strategy meeting involving yourself, it was determined that the current environment at Royley House may not be the most suitable home for your loved one.

Our decision to serve notice of termination was made after careful consideration involving care professionals. We believe that transitioning your loved one to a nursing home where their needs can be more comprehensively met.

Royley House is an outstanding care home. It's beautiful. My aunty was in another care home for 2 months and didn't like it. I showed her pictures of Royley House on my phone and got her transferred. She has a lovely ground-floor room and she told me she cried with happiness when she went to bed on
her first night there, That says it all.

My partner was there in respite care for three weeks in June-July. The staff were all kind and thoughtful. They looked after him very well. He had a lovely ensuite room with his photo on the door. The staff helped him when he wanted to ring me: he has dementia and has never been very good with a mobile
phone. The fact that he was unhappy there was no reflection on the staff: he was living a hallucination for his time there and was very anxious and confused; plus there were residents with very challenging dementia symptoms, and that upset him because he didn't understand. Unfortunately, he lost his hearing aids while he was there, and despite the best efforts of the staff to find them, they didn't reappear.

Gran recently had a respite stay here and everything was fantastic from start to finish! The home smells lovely and has very modern decor, even down to the bedding! A very relaxed atmosphere. There was always some form of activity going on and Gran said the food was plentiful. Rooms are spacious, with
spacious bathrooms also. (Just to note it is communal shower however!) Beds are 'rise and recline'! Lovely garden area, with pergola, for residents to sit outside with staff around. Visiting policy is very relaxed and small pets are also allowed to visit, so we could bring the dog into the home! The table was always set and the dining room was lovely! Refreshments were always readily available, with cold juice in the fridge, and staff even came outside to offer melon! All staff were super helpful and made you feel really at ease! It’s the first time we have explored respite care and as first experiences go, we had the best for Gran! Thank you all.

A huge thank you to all the staff at Royley House you are amazing, caring, skilled and wonderful people. I have watched and listened whilst visiting Mum and been in awe of the hard work and care that you put into each day.
We all arrived with my Mum for respite care, we were frightened, upset and exhausted
after Mum had suffered an infection and it became impossible for us to carry on at home. We have always felt welcomed and that Mum has received the best of care. You have supported us as a whole family and been open to our wishes. Staff are friendly and know the residents well, plenty of cheery chattering and personal care goes into every day. Menus are varied and the food is excellent, served and presented to a high standard (Mum put on 4KG in four weeks, Thank you! She is stronger by the day!). Also thank you for all the cups of tea and chats it has helped us all settle in, we had all worried about handing Mum over but you have all understood and helped.
Forever Grateful.

It will always be hard to find a suitable care home for your family members. We are lucky to find Royley House for our father, who has been a resident there for several years. During the lockdown period, they have been very good with keeping us informed of his well-being and the staff regularly video
called to keep the family connected. The house is clean, and all staff and management are very friendly. On many occasions, they have gone the extra mile to adapt to his changing care needs.

Royley House was recommended to me for my elderly father for Respite care. On meeting the manager, I was impressed - she is lovely and welcoming and I knew I had come to the right place. We talked about his likes and dislikes, along with his care needs.
Royley House has recently been refurbished and
is really lovely. The rooms are brightly decorated with matching interior colours.
The staff are all very pleasant and welcoming and took an interest in dad, and his care needs were met. He enjoyed his stay at Royley House and I will definitely use them again in the future.

From the very first meeting with Management to discuss Respite for my mum, I felt that I had come to the right place. They were genuinely interested in learning about what mum likes and does not like and everything was methodically recorded in great detail into mum's care plan to enable the staff to
look after mum just as she is cared for by me in our home. Royley House is lovely after recent refurbishment and is more like a Hotel than a care home - all the rooms are beautifully decorated with matching interior colour schemes including every bedroom (I was shown several). But a care home is not all about decor etc, but about the actual care provided so we were delighted that all the staff were very pleasant and welcoming. They all took an interest in what mum's care needs were and were keen to get to know mum and all about her and she was treated with the utmost dignity and respect. Since mum stayed there in March 2022, I have rebooked her into their care for respite a further 3 times.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.876)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.876) out of 10 for Royley House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 48 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 48 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.876 for Royley House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (506 Excellents x 5) + (63 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 573 Ratings = 4.876
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Royley House Care Home is based on 48 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 41 registered maximum number of service users is 8.2, which has been reached with 48 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I am a great believer in “Our residents do not live where we work, we work in their home”

Job Title: Activity Co-ordinator

My name is James and I have been a qualified Hairdresser for 15 years prior to taking over the Activity Coordinator role here at Royley House. This position suits me we as it fits in with home life, as I have a younger daughter. At home, we have lots of extended family from the animal kingdom. I am very passionate about the positive impact animals have and often bring some of them in for a cuddle with residents. Animal therapy is a passion I have, so I also plan trips out around this, too. Coming to work feels like being part of a big family, partially down to the team I work with but mostly because of the residents. I thrive knowing the activities I plan and the adventures we partake in are helping to enrich the day-to-day lives of residents.
