Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My mum has been living in this care home now for almost a couple of years. She was in quite a state with dementia when she first arrived after living on her own with some support. The care she has received by the staff is evident in the way she now presents. She has put on weight so she now appears
much healthier. She has lost the look of anguish and appears content. She is clean and tidy although she makes it difficult for staff to tend to her hygiene. If she's wearing clothes that are not her own she is dressed appropriately and it really doesn't matter. It may not be the most glamorous of environments but all her needs are met and she is so much happier than when she first arrived. All credit to the wonderful management and staff. We all appreciate the level of care you provide.

I have now taken my Mum out of Highfield Manor and placed her at another home in Rochdale as I lost all trust in Highfield Manor which has gone downhill rapidly.
They lied about my mum's behaviour to me, had so much trouble with them.
I am now making a report to CQC about the staff and the care home.
I
really don't think it is suitable as it is.
They informed me that they could not cope any longer with my Mums behaviour as she caused trouble very often within the home.
She has been assessed by lovely staff at the other home and they have found that it is not true what they said about my Mum.
At the moment I would advise family not to put Highfield Manor on your list for family members to go and stay there.
Most of the staff that were there have left because of the condition and the way it's run.
Please be cautious about this home.
My Mum is now a totally different person since leaving there. She is smiling and happy and gets on great with all the staff.
I feel happier for my mum.

My mother stayed at this care home for 6 weeks and the standard of care and cleanliness was poor. She was often dressed inappropriately and in other residents' clothing. All her new underwear and nightwear disappeared. Her room was dirty with dust and debris under the bed. On one occasion I found her
pillow covered in vomit after the cleaner and care staff had got her up and dressed and cleaned the room.
The manager didn't appear to have control or authority over her team. Upsetting to find out mum's care was so poor.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.1 (8.132) out of 10 for Highfield Manor Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 5.000 for Highfield Manor Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.132 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Highfield Manor Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 = 3
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.6 = 0.132
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
