Reviews

9.5 Oakland Care Home has a Review Score of 9.5 (9.530)

The Review Score of 9.5 (maximum of 10) for Oakland Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 20 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Oakland Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.53 for Oakland Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (145 Excellents x 5) + (73 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (9 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 230 Ratings = 4.53

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Oakland Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 8 positive Reviews (40 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 8 Reviews ÷ 8 Target = 1.000

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Mum was a resident for approximately four years, very happy years.
She was well cared for. The staff were friendly and always approachable, helpful and very kind. I can recommend Oakland Care Home to anyone.
I was happy for mum to be cared for there and she was happy too. It is really a home from home. She enjoyed the food, the company, entertainment etc. I could relax knowing she was being looked after. I visited frequently and never found anything to complain about.

Management and care staff are excellent, they do everything they can to encourage mother with her fluids, food and medication. As a family, we are offered care and support in many ways. My mother is treated with dignity and her room is kept clean, my mother has always been a fussy eating and sometimes the food on offer is difficult to digest, so they work around it at that meal time, they don't leave her until the next meal time.
If I'd know what I know now, I would still want my mother to be accepted at Oaklands.

Currently, as they put it, this facility cannot cater to the care needs of my mother in law. She is quite active but apparently very disruptive.

According to a mental health nurse, she had a blast with my mother in law as long as she was willing to enter her world which is what all dementia patients are like. They have their own world view, but some of the staff are not as understanding as others. There is no dedicated driver for the minibus (but I have known them use it to take residents to/from hospital) they currently have no activities person (they used to have someone last year, and they used to play bingo every week, and various crafting activities, etc) now they bring in singers and others monthly.

The residents used to be quite animated and willing to chat with any visitor which was one of the reasons we chose this business instead of places we had seen where the residents looked half asleep but now there are only a seldom few who seem willing to respond.

Katie Price, Careline Advisor at Oakland Care Home responded to this review on 18 Sep 2017:

When there are concerns that a person’s care needs have changed the home would arrange for a Best Interests meeting and as a result of this meeting, it may be decided that the home can no longer care for their needs and a nursing assessment would be carried out.

An activities co-coordinator has now been recruited after many months without one. We are carrying out the required pre-employment checks-references and DBS and once completed this person will commence employment which will greatly enhance the quality of life for the residents in the home.

My mum came into Oaklands House in late February and they have looked after my mum so well. The carers have been brilliant, they loo after mum really well. She is happy and settled the food is lovely. All in all very happy with Oaklands House.

My father lived and was cared for in Oakland for almost seven years. His care was excellent. I continue to visit, and still feel the warmth of the staff. The residents seem happy, calm and well cared for. The staff continue to provide care to me when I visit to see the residents. This is a special place.

My grandad has been at Oaklands for a few months now and it appears he is receiving excellent care. He is always dressed well, shaved and looks immaculate. He says he is happy here and all the staff are friendly, helpful and always smiling. I would recommend Oaklands to anyone who may have family that needs 24hour care.

Moved my mum here from another place in Middleton. Mum loves it here! I feel that mum is well cared for! All staff always appear happy and dedicated. Nothing is too much trouble. I feel confident that mum is well cared for when I'm not here. Oakland Care Home always feels warm, cosy and very homely! People have commented that mum looks years younger since coming here.

HC-One, Careline Team at Oakland Care Home responded to this review on 05 Oct 2016:

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review. We really value the feedback provided by those who use our services.
The dining areas on both units are currently being up dated and will be completed by 21/10/2016. We are currently consulting with the residents for choices of wallpaper and colours.
There are also plans to have the corridors painted and updated by the end of November 2016.

I did not like the idea of my mother going into a care home but realised there was no other alternative. I checked the other care homes in my local area and found in my opinion Oakland staff actually care about the residents in their care. We were told even though the rooms are nice that we could adapt the room to make it more homely as possible for my mum's comfort. The staff were very helpful and all are willing to explain in easy to understand terms how we can help make my mum's stay as pleasant as possible. There are often entertainers who sing to the residents they also have facilities for the family to have lunch or tea in private with their relative which helped me pick this care home.

My Mum has been in Oaklands since January, permanent since March. I have never had any problems with the care, staff, management. My Mum is happy there. She has settled really well. If I ever have to ask the staff for anything it is always taken care of.

Friendly open environment and always clean. Bright rooms and excellent with the conservatory and well kept gardens. Friendly and enthusiastic staff. Only criticism is that sometimes there doesn't seem to be enough on duty, especially to monitor the dining room at meal times. Always plenty going on and staff are excellent with my grandma. Full marks to staff in the kitchen. They always ensure my grandma is well fed and often provide alternative meals if she won't eat from the menu.

HC-One, Careline Team at Oakland Care Home responded to this review on 06 Jul 2016:

Thank you for your feedback about Oakland Care Home. We are pleased to hear your very positive comments about the environment, staff and catering. We have looked into the concern you raised about numbers of staff available at mealtimes which is, of course a very busy time. It appeared that we could improve upon the way that staff are organised at these times and we have now taken action to address this.

I have lived at Oaklands for over 10 months now and I think that the care which I receive is excellent. I have a lovely big room which I have made my own little palace. The meals are very nice with lots of choice. I would recommend anyone to live here.

I moved my mum here in January 2016 because of dissatisfaction with her previous home. I was very impressed when we first called at Oaklands the staff were all so happy and friendly and really care for the residents. The home is always spotlessly clean. The lounge is very bright and cosy. I know mum is well looked after here.
