Currently, as they put it, this facility cannot cater to the care needs of my mother in law. She is quite active but apparently very disruptive.

According to a mental health nurse, she had a blast with my mother in law as long as she was willing to enter her world which is what all dementia patients are like. They have their own world view, but some of the staff are not as understanding as others. There is no dedicated driver for the minibus (but I have known them use it to take residents to/from hospital) they currently have no activities person (they used to have someone last year, and they used to play bingo every week, and various crafting activities, etc) now they bring in singers and others monthly.

The residents used to be quite animated and willing to chat with any visitor which was one of the reasons we chose this business instead of places we had seen where the residents looked half asleep but now there are only a seldom few who seem willing to respond.

Reply from Katie Price, Careline Advisor at Oakland Care Home

When there are concerns that a person’s care needs have changed the home would arrange for a Best Interests meeting and as a result of this meeting, it may be decided that the home can no longer care for their needs and a nursing assessment would be carried out.

My grandad has been at Oaklands for a few months now and it appears he is receiving excellent care. He is always dressed well, shaved and looks immaculate. He says he is happy here and all the staff are friendly, helpful and always smiling. I would recommend Oaklands to anyone who may have family that needs 24hour care.

My Mum has been in Oaklands since January, permanent since March. I have never had any problems with the care, staff, management. My Mum is happy there. She has settled really well. If I ever have to ask the staff for anything it is always taken care of.

I have lived at Oaklands for over 10 months now and I think that the care which I receive is excellent. I have a lovely big room which I have made my own little palace. The meals are very nice with lots of choice. I would recommend anyone to live here.

I moved my mum here in January 2016 because of dissatisfaction with her previous home. I was very impressed when we first called at Oaklands the staff were all so happy and friendly and really care for the residents. The home is always spotlessly clean. The lounge is very bright and cosy. I know mum is well looked after here.

My father lived and was cared for in Oakland for almost seven years. His care was excellent. I continue to visit, and still feel the warmth of the staff. The residents seem happy, calm and well cared for. The staff continue to provide care to me when I visit to see the residents. This is a special place.

I did not like the idea of my mother going into a care home but realised there was no other alternative. I checked the other care homes in my local area and found in my opinion Oakland staff actually care about the residents in their care. We were told even though the rooms are nice that we could adapt the room to make it more homely as possible for my mum's comfort. The staff were very helpful and all are willing to explain in easy to understand terms how we can help make my mum's stay as pleasant as possible. There are often entertainers who sing to the residents they also have facilities for the family to have lunch or tea in private with their relative which helped me pick this care home.

Friendly open environment and always clean. Bright rooms and excellent with the conservatory and well kept gardens. Friendly and enthusiastic staff. Only criticism is that sometimes there doesn't seem to be enough on duty, especially to monitor the dining room at meal times. Always plenty going on and staff are excellent with my grandma. Full marks to staff in the kitchen. They always ensure my grandma is well fed and often provide alternative meals if she won't eat from the menu.

Extremely friendly staff who interact well with both residents and visitors. Lovely food (porridge, corn flakes) and cater for all tastes. Good trips out and sitting in the bus shelter is always enjoyable.
