As you walk through the door at Wellcroft it doesn't hit you with that 'this is a care home' feel but of a more homely feel to the place. Management and staff are always polite and welcoming. The standard of hygiene and cleanliness are excellent.
Reply from Julie Veritiero, registered manager at WellcroftThank you, Michael, for your positive feedback. I certainly will pass this on to the entire staff team.
Regards, Julie.

I believe my cousin is well cared for at Wellcroft. Staff show her respect as an individual and listen to her when she expresses her needs. Wellcroft always feels clean and safe. Staff are friendly to me as a visitor and make me feel welcome. They recognise the importance to my cousin and me of family
contact. Despite being blind, staff make sure my cousin's room is bright and cheerful and reflects her life.
Reply from Julie Veritiero, registered manager at WellcroftThank you so much for the positive feedback. I certainly will pass this on to the staff team.
Kind regards.

What was my mum's transition to care (respite) was very difficult but staff was always warm and compassionate. Due to Covid, I cannot offer a review of all facilities after not having access. I was very impressed with the home's approach to some initial unsettled behaviour. We are seeking Wellcroft
for mum's permanent transition into full-time care. Only quibbles - telephone communication - sometimes messages or phone not picked up. Mum came out and still 3 weeks later, missing clothes not retrieved. Other than that, there are no concerns regarding what's most important.
Reply from Julie Veritiero, Registered Manager at WellcroftThank you for the positive feedback, I apologize you have experienced negative aspects of the service provision and assure you we will look into the issues raised and contact you with the outcome.

My mother has been at Wellcroft for about nine months and the staff have been wonderful. She has various behavioural issues which the staff seem to cope with well and with patience.

We visited Wellcroft in February 2020 and within 2 weeks my mother was part of the family there. She settled in well and the staff have been absolutely fabulous.
We would have no hesitation in recommending this residential care home after visiting a few others in the area.

My mum spent three and a half years as a valued Wellcroft family member. I was also welcomed and supported by all the amazing, wonderful and friendly staff, manager, all care staff on nights, days, on-call, agency, catering, cooks and what an amazing housekeeping team. I cannot praise Wellcroft enough.
Me, my family and my mum, if she could, want to say a massive thank you, you made my mum and me so happy. My mum enjoyed many trips, restaurants meals, entertainment nights and so much care and respect from you all, many many thanks.
Reply from Valerie Egan, Interim Head of Care Services at WellcroftMany thanks for taking the time to write these lovely comments. I will ensure that the team at Wellcroft are congratulated for the care they have given to you, your family and indeed your Mother.

This is a lovely, welcoming, clean home. The staff are excellent and there is always something going on for the residents. My mum is in here and when I visit her, she is always clean and tidy, as is her bedroom. The meals look really nice and there is always plenty of cups of tea and pieces of cake.
Well done Wellcroft.

My relative is a new resident. Couldn't be happier with the level of care she is receiving. She has vascular dementia and is treated with care and dignity.

highly satisfied with every aspect of the care provided.

I am my partner's carer and her time at Wellcroft gives me a break to carry out work at home and time to do things for myself. My partner only attends two days a week but is well looked after and that keeps her interested. I have faith in the staff that look after her and bring smiles most of the time.

Pos; I like the open door policy. To be able to visit my mother at any reasonable time without restrictions is an excellent policy.
Neg; As a self-funder, my mother has to pay considerably more than being funded through the local authority which is disappointing.

I would like to commend the palliative care provided by Wellcroft staff and the end of life support afforded to my friend's husband in his last weeks.

I have professionally led the end of life care agenda in both the Department of Health and within the NHS so was very pleased to see the exceptionally

high standards of compassion, support, validation and empathy given to my friend, her husband and his family and friends consistently throughout his last few weeks of life.

Whether it be the cleaner who was on first name terms with my friend's husband and always gave a cheery wave and smile, or the care assistants who sat with him to patiently help him drink and eat and sat with him through the night when he was unwell. I cannot praise the staff highly enough. At all times the management consulted the family and supported them through difficult times. Even in his final hours, the family were asked if any changes were needed in his care.

Wellcroft came to my rescue four years ago when I was struggling caring for both my parents. My Father arrived first and improved dramatically so I had no hesitation letting Wellcroft care for my Mum. The atmosphere is welcoming and caring. All staff, including housekeeping, care for the resident's
wellbeing. I am kept informed of any issues regarding Mum. She is much happier in herself.

Since my mother has been n this care home she has been looked after so well by the professional and caring staff. My sister and I could not be happier with the care she has received. Some old people decline when going to live in a care home but our mother has done the opposite and improved. In fact,
we both agree that if it wasn't for the excellent care she receives she wouldn't be with us today.
I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this home to someone with an elderly relative. The staff deserve to be recognised for their hard work and dedication.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.366)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.366) out of 10 for Wellcroft is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.366 for Wellcroft is calculated as follows: ( (180 Excellents x 5) + (62 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (20 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 276 Ratings = 4.366
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Wellcroft is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
