Three hundred cheers for the staff at Sandon House. My 93-year-old dad has been a resident since July 2018. Due to Covid19, visitors haven't been allowed since the end of Feb '20 so missing dad a lot. This is my second glowing review about Sandon House and the staff there. Dealing with Covid19 and a
community of elderly health-challenged individuals is a heroic task in normal times. Yet they've remained so positive in these truly dreadful months. (Everyone is routing for you all - Heroes all of you). I would love to help and have offered (but my hubby is 80 and has COPD so grounded for 12 weeks and I have to shield him) But Sandon House and its staff prevail with their caring, professional and friendly approach which I'm sure will continue during these testing times. Hip Hip Hooray for Sandon House staff, keep up the good work along with your chins.

My father-in-law is 94, he has numerous medical needs. Sandon House meets these needs and goes the extra mile.
The management has been supportive, helpful and above all kind to our father and ourselves. We greatly appreciate the level of care given to our dad.

Mum has been in Sandon House since September 2019. We were concerned at first about mum's care then our concerns quickly went as the staff were very caring to mum and respectful to me and my family.
Whenever we have concerns about mum the staff deal with the problems and we are reassured again. Keep
up the good work in caring for our lovely mum.

Good home with caring staff although sometimes messages and requests are not passed on which causes anxiety and stress to both relations and service users. Food quite repetitive and bland, and although some activities are advertised, not sure they always happen due to staff shortages. Better now more
permanent staff have been recruited. Management work hard and long hours and I know they are striving for improvement for all.
Reply from Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at Sandon HouseThank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. We are delighted to hear that you feel the staff at the home are caring and that Sandon House is a good home. We are very sorry for the distress you have experienced regarding messages and requests not being passed on. The Home Manager has discussed this with the staff team and outlined the importance of ensuring that these are dealt with in a timely manner. We apologise you have found the food repetitive and bland. Residents are offered a choice of nutritious foods and fluids throughout the day and night to ensure they have the opportunity to eat and drink a balanced diet. HC-One strives to offer the highest level of nutrition and hydration to meet individual Resident needs in keeping with kind care. To maintain Residents' dietary needs, a four-week menu cycle has been produced which changes twice a year for the summer and winter seasons. The menus and recipes are reviewed biannually and changed for the spring and autumn seasons. Residents are encouraged to taste new recipes and sample new menu items. The three main meals of the day - breakfast, lunch and evening meals all have a minimum of two courses and alternative choices are available for those Residents who do not wish to eat the meal options prepared; this is offered on an individual basis to cater for Residents who have personal food preferences. We would like to offer reassurance that the wellbeing coordinator responsible for activity provision at Sandon House consistently ensures the planned activities advertised within the home do take place. We recognise how important these are to the wellbeing of all our Residents; the activities within the home are always under review to ensure they are enjoyed by as many Residents as possible. Many Thanks, Clare Sheehan Careline Advisor.

My mother-in-law came into Sandon House 6-7 weeks ago. The staff couldn't have been kinder or more helpful. They have worked hard to give my mother-in-law the best care possible whilst taking into account what her needs have been. Every member of staff has been very pleasant, helpful and welcoming to
myself and other visitors. We are completely happy with the level of care and support which my mother-in-law is receiving thank you to everyone.

My experience of Sandon has always been positive. The staff do their very best to care for residents.
Recently my husband and I celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary. The staff arranged for my husband to give me some flowers. It was a genuine surprise for both of us, very thoughtful of them and much
appreciated.
'Going that extra mile'; this is a good example of the caring attitude of Sandon's staff.

My mother was admitted for respite care. The service that she has received from all the staff is excellent. They are always happy to discuss any issues with family members and always have a smile to greet us. This has been our first experience of care homes and it has been a very positive one.

I found the review excellent as I found out how the staff felt my mother was doing and could discuss her needs for future care. The person who conducted it made me feel that my feelings and those of my mother mattered and that she was a person and not just another resident. The whole review was conducted
in a relaxed and friendly manner.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.606)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.606) out of 10 for Sandon House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.606 for Sandon House is calculated as follows: ( (169 Excellents x 5) + (80 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 259 Ratings = 4.606
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Sandon House is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
