From our experience, Mum is always treated with respect. Staff go beyond to support and every request is met to the full. We can go home knowing Mum is well looked after. A hairdresser is required for their well-being. On the negative side, more activities during the day are needed to prevent Mum just
sitting with her memories, however, the home is trying to accommodate this. Staff do not have time for both.

My aunt seems happy and secure at Ash Court. She tells me the food is good and from my own observations the home is clean and the staff are attentive. I wonder if there could be more leisure activities eg crafts or gentle physical exercise. A link with the local primary school might be interesting and
beneficial.
Reply from Julie, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Ash Court Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share your views and for your positive feedback regarding the team at the home who are committed to providing the best experience possible for our residents. We very much appreciate their efforts and the kind care that they offer and will ensure that your lovely comments are shared with them. In relation to your feedback re leisure activities on offer we do have a dedicated Wellbeing Coordinator who works with all residents to arrange activities and events to meet people’s needs and wishes, we would be happy to meet to share details of the programme with you, we very much welcome input and interaction with family members. Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have been unable to maintain close links with local schools and groups but as things start to return to a more normal way of living, we very much wish to reengage, we feel it very important that our residents are part of their local communities and welcome the opportunity to interact. Please do get in touch when you are able to arrange a meeting, we will look forward to hearing from you.

Really fun afternoon at the Community Day on Sunday 3rd July at Ash Court. A lot of hard work was put into preparing for the event but those who were working on Sunday went above and beyond to ensure that all the residents and family members including children had a great time. Lovely to see so many
smiling faces. Extra praise must go to the person who organised the day - and of course, to the two who stole the show! Thanks to everyone involved in organising the event - look forward to the next one. You are all stars.

I had Christmas lunch with my Dad at Ash Court and just wanted to say an extra “thank you” to the staff who were working that day. You all went out of your way to make it a really special afternoon for us and at 95 who knows how many more there will be? We had lunch in the conservatory so it was very
light and airy, with lovely cloths on the table and silver crackers for Dad and me to pull. The food was great including a nut roast for veggie me (even though I hadn’t said before) and loads of potatoes and veg followed by trifle - gorgeous. It was a day to remember so thank you to the staff who put the music on for us, the staff who did the cooking, and last but not least, thank you particularly to the staff who served the food with a smile! See you soon.

My Great Aunt has recently died having spent two years at Ash Court. She was generally happy and the family always found the home to be clean and helpful. However, the whole experience was totally ruined in September when my aunt was starting to go downhill. At 94 we expected that but what we didn't
expect was that her wedding ring would go missing whilst she was sleeping. We searched her room high and low and reported it to the management but to no avail. We also reported the incident to the police but we recognise that they have limited options. We have no answer as to what happened to the ring. The reply we got from the management was 'these things happen'. What is that supposed to mean? A cousin asked one member of staff about the ring and her strange reply was 'I wasn't in at the weekend'. No one mentioned the weekend. Whilst things mysteriously disappear in this home I would suggest it is not fit to care for anyone vulnerable or confused.
Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Ash Court Care HomeThank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. We really appreciate you sharing your feedback with us at such a sad time for your family. We are pleased your aunt’s time with us over the two years she resided at Ash Court was generally happy. Your aunt was part of our close-knit community and she will be missed by residents and colleagues alike. In relation to the missing wedding ring please be assured we are taking this very seriously and we carrying out a full investigation into this matter. We fully recognise the importance of safeguarding our resident's belongings and can appreciate the distress this loss has caused. The Manager at the home will shortly make further contact with your family and will ensure she provides you with further details of our investigation and outcome and she is happy to liaise with you as needed.

Mum has been here for just over a year and is settled. The staff are amazing. Sometimes staff shortages put pressure on staff and don't have the time to chat to residents or take time with them - I feel for the staff. I understand this is a difficult situation and I can't praise the staff enough.

Mum has been a resident since December 2018. She has settled in well. Home is bright, well maintained and welcoming. Staff are very caring and understanding of people's needs. The family are welcomed and kept up to date regarding Mum. Friendly atmosphere. Rooms are tastefully decorated and we have been
able to move personal items in. Open door policy with the manager. Would recommend Ash Court.

Thank you for trying to look after my mother during her stay, however, I was wholly disappointed with the care. The staff could benefit from more training in dementia, the crisis of the manager leaving had a great impact on my mother. I live away so care needs to be making sure my mother did not spend
all day in bed, hand washing, getting clean clothes daily, all of these were difficult. My mother enjoyed the food, she enjoyed the garden and you did keep her safe from escaping! But her two-month stay could not end soon enough. Being constructive, training in patience and conflict resolution would help some staff, one or two staff members were excellent. Attention to detail is important, my mother lost items, a strong level of leadership from a good manager may change the ethos to a higher level of care. My mother is now described as amenable, happy and sociable, taking part in activities, in her new care home, not at all 'challenging or aggressive' as you described. I hope your home improves in the near future and wish you well.
Reply from Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at Ash Court Care HomeThank you for taking the time to make a review about the time your Mother was in residence at the care home and for your kind comments about the catering and the gardens. It is with great regret that we were unable to meet the needs of your Mother and your expectations of the care she should receive during her stay with us. We now have a new Home Manager in post and have reviewed your concerns and will be making the required changes to training our staff in dealing with specific behaviours that challenge. We are pleased to hear that your Mother is settled in her new home.

I hadn't seen my very 'old' friend for a very long time as we live so far apart.
I was quite worried about her.
However, she seems very happy and content living in Ash Court.
I was greeted with warmth and made to feel most welcome.

When Mum came into this home, it was another owner but has since been taken over by the new owner. She has noticed a lot of changes, that she does not like.
Staff are overworked and underpaid for what they have to do. Residents are here who should be in a nursing home not residential.
Food has deteriorated
and is served late, my family bring in meals for me. Activities have improved as they employed an activities coordinator.
Reply from Clare Sheehan, Care Advisor at Ash Court Care HomeThank you for your review, we appreciate all feedback as this helps us improve our service where required. Our meeting regarding your concerns was most helpful and I believe you are happy with the actions agreed and you now understand the reasons for the changes implemented to ensure we continue to provide the level care you have always been able to expect. We also talked about the Residents/relatives meeting held within the home which gives you a chance to be involved in the running of the home and I reminded you of the “have your say” boards which always serve as a useful tool to gain regular feedback.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.435)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.435) out of 10 for Ash Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.660 for Ash Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (110 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 144 Ratings = 4.66
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.775 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ash Court Care Home is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 11 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
