Woodlands is a home in the true sense of the word; warm, comfortable and welcoming. Professionals pride themselves on the quality of the care and surroundings they provide and on attention to details – it’s the little things that matter.

In reflection of this, Woodlands Manor receives GSF (Gold Standard Framework) award accreditation in September 2017, achieving a Commend status in giving end of life care.

The owners have arranged the home to make it interesting, varied, surprising and stimulating. Woodlands has many original features you would expect to see from properties built around the 1900s and mixes theses with an exciting and progressive specialist dementia environment.

The communal areas of the home are themed; allowing residents to relax with others and join in various activities, where dedicated staff are on hand to assist with their individual needs. They have a 1950s reminiscence room with original features of TV, telephone, furniture and gramophone. There is also a light and airy garden room and family room. Woodlands know the importance of providing varied and interesting daily activities for residents to promote well-being and purpose.

My husband has been a resident at this home since April 2016.
Few teething problems to start with but all ironed out very quickly.
Very pleasant and caring staff, always showing great respect for residents and family members. Staff always cheerful.

Review from Steve M (Son of Resident) published on 24 February 2017 Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My mother has been resident here for almost a year. She has vascular dementia which is getting worse. Prior to entering Woodlands Manor, she was becoming gradually more insular and avoiding people. When my father died, I moved in with her as a full-time carer, his death caused a huge decline in her
mental health to a point where she forgot him altogether, she became more frustrated with everyday tasks and eventually became quite violent, forcing a move to residential care.
When she moved into Woodlands for a few weeks respite while awaiting assessment, she started to come out of her shell. The staff were stimulating her interest in other people, she was in a caring and socially acceptable (to her) 'hotel' with minimal need to go home (her dementia had taken her back 60 years to her parents' house).
She is quite happy now, being looked after hand and foot, with active social interaction, good food and health care and a stable staffing structure without too much change.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.786)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.786) out of 10 for Woodlands Manor EMI Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.786 for Woodlands Manor EMI Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (280 Excellents x 5) + (58 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 346 Ratings = 4.786
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Woodlands Manor EMI Care Home is based on 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4, which has been reached with 28 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2014

I have worked in the care industry for over 30 years, starting at 16, when I joined my first Care Home in Liverpool. From that day on, I knew I wanted to make a difference to all the people I cared for. I have achieved many different vocational qualifications throughout my career, in and around care settings and am always looking to progress to the highest level of achievement. I joined Cedars Care Group in 2014 as a chef at Woodlands Manor, but my love of caring for people encouraged me to join the Care team within my first couple of years. In 2017 Liz became the GSF and Activities Co-Ordinator for all three of our homes in the North West. During this time, I devoted my efforts to helping Woodlands Manor and Cedar Grange gain Gold Standards Framework accreditation and providing stimulating and fun activity events for all the residents. In January 2020, I was eager to get back to supporting and providing care again to the residents and became the Care Manager at Woodlands Manor. I joined Cedar Grange and was promoted to Deputy Manager, in June 2021, before returning to Woodlands Manor to become the Home Manager there in August 2021. I am very passionate about promoting the uniqueness and individuality of people and allowing them the freedom of choice.
As a Home Manager, my primary goal is to honour each person's individuality, recognising and respecting who they were and who they are now. I bring a deep understanding and unwavering passion to my work with individuals living with Dementia/Alzheimer’s, ensuring that our home is a safe, happy, and nurturing environment. I make it a priority that person-centered care is not just a concept, but a lived reality for all, fostering a culture of quality and diversity at Woodlands Manor.

My journey at Woodlands Manor began in November 2025. I have worked in an office environment for the last 20 years and, due to family commitments, wanted to work somewhere closer to home. I can honestly say I love my job here at Woodlands Manor. It is fulfilling in ways I didn’t expect. Everyone here is so friendly and has made me feel like a part of the team from my first day.

I am learning every day about the care industry, and I am excited for my future here.
