Woodlands is a home in the true sense of the word; warm, comfortable and welcoming. Professionals pride themselves on the quality of the care and surroundings they provide and on attention to details – it’s the little things that matter.

In reflection of this, Woodlands Manor receives GSF (Gold Standard Framework) award accreditation in September 2017, achieving a Commend status in giving end of life care.

The owners have arranged the home to make it interesting, varied, surprising and stimulating. Woodlands has many original features you would expect to see from properties built around the 1900s and mixes theses with an exciting and progressive specialist dementia environment.

The communal areas of the home are themed; allowing residents to relax with others and join in various activities, where dedicated staff are on hand to assist with their individual needs. They have a 1950s reminiscence room with original features of TV, telephone, furniture and gramophone. There is also a light and airy garden room and family room. Woodlands know the importance of providing varied and interesting daily activities for residents to promote well-being and purpose.

Our family are indebted to the staff of Woodlands Manor for the dedicated care and support that they have provided to our dear Mum. We have been very comforted by the loving environment that Mum has enjoyed at Woodlands Manor. This has made it a real 'home' in every way, particularly in relation to
the great humour and joy that typifies Woodlands Manor.

Mum has been the most settled and happy that I have seen for some time. The staff are patient and caring, and she always seems well cared for. I've been very impressed with the way this pandemic has been handled at this time, and the efforts they have gone to keep families in touch via letters, video
chats and timed controlled visits (now the restrictions are starting to be lifted).

When dad first came to Woodlands Manor he did so because we as a family liked the homely feeling and friendliness of the staff. Since that time dads, dementia has changed sometimes altering his personality and occasionally causing distress, during these difficult times dad has always been treated with
dignity and respect. I have always been included in decisions and advised of any concerns. I feel confident that any difficult times ahead will be approached in the same way with professionalism and care.

The cleanliness of communal areas is good. Resident's shoes, especially the gentlemen's seem dirty and full of flakes of dry skin.
The staff do not shout or talk loudly to residents, the atmosphere seems calm.
I am disappointed with the medical care - knowledge of staff re medical complaints/issues
(diets/longstanding issues).

A huge thank you to the matron and all the wonderful staff who have been so kind and very helpful. Thank you all so much for looking after my dad, while my mum was very ill. Nothing was too much trouble and everyone so helpful and kind. My dad's room was gorgeous and kept immaculate. Thank you all so
much for your kindness at a difficult time.

Woodlands Manor, to me, is a place of fun and laughter from a dedicated staff team. I can honestly say they care and make this place home. I, myself, love coming here for the warm welcome I get, and to see my partner so happy. Entertainment is excellent which is a big part of keeping residents happy.
Well done to everybody.

There has been a shortage of staff on duty at times. But this seems to be improving. The home has a good family atmosphere.
The staff at present are very helpful and friendly, also very caring.
Personal care from some night staff in a morning could be improved.
Overall very satisfied with my husband's
care. I would recommend Woodlands to family and friends.

My wife needed to be looked after when I became ill. She was placed in Woodlands by Social Services. We had no experience of care homes and, therefore, nothing to compare Woodlands with. Generally, she has been happy with the experience and thinks that the staff are very obliging.

I chose this care home for my mother because I had a friend well cared for there and she was well looked after until she died. My mother was a resident at Woodlands Manor, Southport for 3 years. It was incredibly difficult to have to place my mother in a Dementia Care Home. Mum was always treated with
care and compassion, was spotlessly clean and I was kept informed of medical and care issues. My mum enjoyed a pleasant Christmas with lots of entertainment but deteriorated in January and has died. Mum's care at this sad time was exemplary and could not be faulted, the family are all very grateful.

A change of shop floor management has made a fantastic difference to the day to day running of the care home. The staff are much happier and less stressed out, providing calm to patients and visiting families. It's a pleasure to visit now, the staff operate like a happy team since the change. Activities
are poor, residents are sat in chairs most of the day. A change in this would give a remarkable plus to the standard of the home.

My grandfather was at Woodlands Manor for a number of years. My grandfather suffered from dementia. It was very hard for us to acknowledge and understand what was happening to him. The staff at Woodlands Manor were very understanding with us. They always updated us with his care and alway looked smart.
The laundry lady always told us if he needed anything, just ask. My grandfather also told us how he enjoyed the food. The care staff couldn't have offered any better care. He could be challenging at times but they showed excellent skills with him when he was. Sadly my grandfather passed away this year. My grandfather was taken to the hospital and there was nothing they could do. I don't know how they did it but all the staff at Woodlands got him home as fast as they could so he was back in his own bed. They got district nurses to come and help that night so he wasn't in any pain or agitated. I know my grandfather couldn't have been more peaceful the last days of his life and happy.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.776) out of 10 for Woodlands Manor EMI Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.776 for Woodlands Manor EMI Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (285 Excellents x 5) + (64 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 357 Ratings = 4.776
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Woodlands Manor EMI Care Home is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2014

I have worked in the care industry for over 30 years, starting at 16, when I joined my first Care Home in Liverpool. From that day on, I knew I wanted to make a difference to all the people I cared for. I have achieved many different vocational qualifications throughout my career, in and around care settings and am always looking to progress to the highest level of achievement. I joined Cedars Care Group in 2014 as a chef at Woodlands Manor, but my love of caring for people encouraged me to join the Care team within my first couple of years. In 2017 Liz became the GSF and Activities Co-Ordinator for all three of our homes in the North West. During this time, I devoted my efforts to helping Woodlands Manor and Cedar Grange gain Gold Standards Framework accreditation and providing stimulating and fun activity events for all the residents. In January 2020, I was eager to get back to supporting and providing care again to the residents and became the Care Manager at Woodlands Manor. I joined Cedar Grange and was promoted to Deputy Manager, in June 2021, before returning to Woodlands Manor to become the Home Manager there in August 2021. I am very passionate about promoting the uniqueness and individuality of people and allowing them the freedom of choice.
As a Home Manager, my primary goal is to honour each person's individuality, recognising and respecting who they were and who they are now. I bring a deep understanding and unwavering passion to my work with individuals living with Dementia/Alzheimer’s, ensuring that our home is a safe, happy, and nurturing environment. I make it a priority that person-centered care is not just a concept, but a lived reality for all, fostering a culture of quality and diversity at Woodlands Manor.

My journey at Woodlands Manor began in November 2025. I have worked in an office environment for the last 20 years and, due to family commitments, wanted to work somewhere closer to home. I can honestly say I love my job here at Woodlands Manor. It is fulfilling in ways I didn’t expect. Everyone here is so friendly and has made me feel like a part of the team from my first day.

I am learning every day about the care industry, and I am excited for my future here.
