Woodlands is a home in the true sense of the word; warm, comfortable and welcoming. Professionals pride themselves on the quality of the care and surroundings they provide and on attention to details – it’s the little things that matter.

In reflection of this, Woodlands Manor receives GSF (Gold Standard Framework) award accreditation in September 2017, achieving a Commend status in giving end of life care.

The owners have arranged the home to make it interesting, varied, surprising and stimulating. Woodlands has many original features you would expect to see from properties built around the 1900s and mixes theses with an exciting and progressive specialist dementia environment.

The communal areas of the home are themed; allowing residents to relax with others and join in various activities, where dedicated staff are on hand to assist with their individual needs. They have a 1950s reminiscence room with original features of TV, telephone, furniture and gramophone. There is also a light and airy garden room and family room. Woodlands know the importance of providing varied and interesting daily activities for residents to promote well-being and purpose.

Woodlands Manor. Wonderful staff at all levels. My husband had respite care at the home and when it became necessary for permanent care there was no need to look any further.

The staff are all friendly, caring and welcoming. All the staff have great respect for those they care for.

Liz the

manager is brilliant, so energetic and cheerful. Her rapport with the residents is second to none. Our family have the greatest respect and thanks to Liz and her team of staff. The food is prepared at the home and the chef is brilliant. Abi the deputy Manager is kind and helpful. The domestic staff and the carers all deserve an accolade for the positive attitude that is obvious whenever we visit.

There is support and care for us too and we are kept informed at all times. Any concerns or worries are always dealt with and outcomes notified to us.

All in all, Woodlands Manor is a home where standards are of the highest and all other homes should aspire to equal them.

Woodlands exceeded all of our expectations in the care they provided to my father. The leadership of the manager, Liz & her deputy Aby was clearly reflected throughout the home. The care provided by the entire staff team was exceptional & always delivered with kindness, dignity & genuine warmth. My father
was treated as an individual, not just as someone with dementia, & staff made real efforts to support his independence, happiness & sense of identity. He loved the activities on offer, particularly music, dancing, trips out & it was clear that staff genuinely cared about engaging residents & making life enjoyable for them. The food is excellent & visitors are always made welcome at any time.
Sadly, my father's health declined.Woodlands enabled him to receive end-of-life care within the home, surrounded by family. The care, dignity & kindness shown to him & to us during that time was extraordinary & something we will always be grateful for. I would highly recommend to anyone.

I cannot speak highly enough of Woodlands Manor EMI Home on Chambers Road, Southport. Knowing my parents are cared for in such a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment gives me great peace of mind.

All the staff are great - kind, patient, and genuinely caring. They understand the needs of

residents with EMI and always treat my parents with dignity and respect. The team take the time to get to know each resident, and nothing ever feels rushed.

I would especially like to mention Liz, the Manager, and Aby, the Deputy, who do an outstanding job. They are approachable, professional, and clearly dedicated to providing high-quality care, which shows throughout the home.

The home is clean, comfortable, and welcoming, with excellent communication with families. I am extremely grateful to everyone at Woodlands Manor and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for quality care for their parents, relatives, or friends.

I Would recommend woodlands to anyone looking for a secure & homely place for a loved one. The dedicated staff show love, care & most of all respect to each resident & go out of their way to cater for their individual needs. The home is managed really well with Manager Liz providing lots of activities
and outings for residents. Catering staff also do an amazing job with freshly prepared dinners & afternoon tea & cakes in abundance. When visiting loved ones you are always made to feel very welcome & I was kept well informed on any health issues that arose and updated on a regular basis. Woodlands is a unique & special place with lovely staff, full of fun & laughter.

My uncle has now been a resident of Woodlands Manor for just over a year, and he has settled in well, in spite of not wanting to leave his own home. The staff are kind, gentle, caring, and very hard working. They are led by Liz, who is innovative, energetic and cheerful. She has a wonderful relationship
with the residents, and is always receptive to communication from us as a family.
Liz and the staff have good systems in place to monitor the well being of the residents. They are happy and have fun, and the food is excellent.
Much effort is made to celebrate all their special occasions, as well as national events. Themed days and parties are frequent, as well as community links, entertainers, and visits from animals.
The home is clean, the rooms are modern, and there is a lovely verandah and garden.
Liz and the team are always looking for ways to improve their offering, and are open to suggestions.
We are very happy with my uncle's care and know he is in safe hands.

Very happy with the care Harry receives from Woodlands. He has settled in extremley well and overall is very happy with the care he receives. It has been noted by ourselves that Harry and other residents are afforded the dignity and respect and the encouragement to ensure that there independance is
mantained as is a proactive approach in there own decision making. It is a happy home one that both residents and relatives are made to feel welcome and part of the woodlands family. Liz (manager and her team ) always have activites daily keeping residents motivated ,engaged and stimulated, There have been many trips out with the newly aquired minibus which have been received well and enjoyed. Harry is always complaining about the food -not the quality but that theres to much of it !!

Woodlands Manor Care Home in Southport has been absolutely wonderful for my mum. She has dementia, and the care and attention she receives here are exceptional. The staff are so kind, patient, and genuinely caring - they make her feel comfortable, respected, and at home. It's such a relief to see her
so settled and happy, as if she's living in her own home. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and I can tell she is truly content and well looked after. I'm so grateful for everything the team does each day to make her life brighter.

My Father, Harry, has been in the home now for nearly 10 months and the care he receives from all the
staff is first class ,based on his mixed dementia they are experienced in dealing with this type of condition.
The residents are all very happy and the manager, Liz, runs a very happy ship . The mini
bus is a good addition as it allows for trips out for the residents. It does feel like the best place for my Father to send his latter years.

My nan is no longer able to live at home. She is very independent but has dementia. The process of moving into a home has been a huge challenge but the manager and the team at woodlands manor have been brilliant with my nan. Taking time with her needs and attentive to all her issues. Nans bedroom is
large and cosy with its own ensuit. The food is excellent and Nan is now eating a balanced diet rather than biscuits. There is regular entertainment and lots of interaction with the residents. I am relieved to know my nan is safe. Her medical needs are taken care of and she now gets her medicine in time every day. Moving to a care home is a journey and the team try their best to make the process as smooth as possible. The manager is truly a special
Person. She is helping me with the process as well. She is so kind. I do recommend Woodlands manor.

My Mum had been a resident at Woodlands Manor for over 5 years until she sadly passed away in January. Over that time my brother and I have been impressed with the care given by the manager and the other staff. They really do try to make residents feel that Woodlands is their home and the staff are
part of their family. All we can say now is 'Thank you so much'.

My sister-in-law has been a resident at Woodlands Manor for approximately six months now. She was initially placed there because she was having difficulty living on her own. At first, she found it difficult to settle in there. But, as the time passed by, she is now more contented and happier to be there.
That is down to the dutiful care and attention all the staff have given her whilst she has been there. This has come as a surprise to my wife and I as she has always been a fiercely independent person. No praise is too high for the staff at Woodlands Manor. None more so than the manager who is totally dedicated to ensuring the residents are treated to the highest standards of safeguarding and personal welfare.

Dad has only been at Woodlands for a couple of months but he has been welcomed completely and has settled in very well. He seems happy to be at Woodlands, and is well looked after. He complains that there is too much food to eat, which is a first! The manager has gone out of her way to ensure that Dad
receives all the care and attention that he needs. This was especially evident as my dad had a safeguarding issue in place when he first arrived at Woodlands, and the manager ensured that the safeguarding plan was maintained. I can't tell you how much peace of mind this gave the family. My mum is in a care home nearby which belongs to the same group. The manager and her team escort my dad to visit her each week, which is really lovely and much appreciated by the whole family. Thanks Manager and the whole team at Woodlands.

I was recently contacted by the care home manager to arrange a meeting to discuss Nan's current care needs. The meeting went really well and we were able to prioritise Nan's needs and work out objectives to make sure Nan remains fit and healthy. The care home has also been great at informing me of upcoming
hospital appointments and arranging travel and a carer to attend the appointments with my Nan. This leaves me not having to worry about taking time away from work to attend hospital appointments. Nan remains happy and content in the home and I am more than happy with the efforts that the team always go to to meet my nan's needs. It was really nice to see that the seating area outside the manager's office has been so nicely decorated for the residents. It is so bright and colourful and a lovely place for Nan to sit and socialise.

On Wednesday afternoon, the 17th of July 2024 I drove down to Woodland Manor to celebrate my wife's seventy-eighth birthday. On entering the care home I observed that there was no sign of any birthday celebration preparations. We were then approached by the deputy manager who made enquiries about our
birthday party preferences and wishes for her birthday celebration. And we elected to have it in the kitchen room at three o'clock.
I entered the kitchen alone to make a cup of coffee for her and found the staff extremely busy setting out a large white tablecloth; with a huge birthday cake in the centre of the table. With my wife's name in wonderful pink icing. All the staff were busy putting birthday decorations around the room. They were working hard, doing a wonderful job making a 'my wife's style' birthday party celebrations. The cook entered the room and enquired if the cake with the pink-iced name of my wife upon it was okay? Which it was! A marvellous cake of a large, square design and covered with birthday candles.
I got my wife settled in the kitchen and sitting at the head of the large table. The deputy manager lit all the candles on the birthday cake. And with a little more effort got my reluctant and confused wife to blow out the candles and make a birthday wish, wish a helping 'puff and blow' of directed breath from myself.
All the residents and staff sang happy birthday to her, raising their glasses to toast her on her seventy-eighth birthday. Assistant manager produced a large, decorate knife for my wife to cut her birthday cake, which she did with some assistance from me. It then became too noisy for her and she became confused and distraught then standing up from her chair, she made movement to leave the room and birthday party.
I took her into the quiet dining room to get her settled leaving the staff and residents in the kitchen room to cut, distribute and eat the birthday cake and enjoy the birthday party.
The home manager walked into the dining room to ascertain the reason for my wife's absence from the main birthday party, and also to present her with a lovely birthday card from herself and all the care home staff. A member of staff brought three portions of birthday cake into the dining room for us to eat. We sang happy birthday to her before and after eating our slice of birthday cake and she slowly recovered her good humour.
I cannot thank enough; the Woodland Manor care staff, the deputy manager whose attention to detail and who organised and controlled the attentive staff, the senior cook who made such a wonderful birthday cake, and who then enquired if it was satisfactory, which of course in was for the proof was in the eating of the birthday cake, for not a crumb remained on the empty plate. Also the home manger who walked into the empty dining room to ascertain the reason for my wife's absence from the main birthday party, for my wife suffers from vascular dementia, becomes confused and overwhelmed during noisy events. Then in the quiet of the dining room, gaining her full attention, the manager presented my wife with a lovely birthday card from herself and all the staff of Woodland Manor. It was a wonderful day and a marvellous birthday party, under the difficult condition due to her poor mental health, all made possible by all the staff of Woodland Manor. Thank you all.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.786 for Woodlands Manor EMI Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (280 Excellents x 5) + (58 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 346 Ratings = 4.786
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Woodlands Manor EMI Care Home is based on 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4, which has been reached with 28 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2014

I have worked in the care industry for over 30 years, starting at 16, when I joined my first Care Home in Liverpool. From that day on, I knew I wanted to make a difference to all the people I cared for. I have achieved many different vocational qualifications throughout my career, in and around care settings and am always looking to progress to the highest level of achievement. I joined Cedars Care Group in 2014 as a chef at Woodlands Manor, but my love of caring for people encouraged me to join the Care team within my first couple of years. In 2017 Liz became the GSF and Activities Co-Ordinator for all three of our homes in the North West. During this time, I devoted my efforts to helping Woodlands Manor and Cedar Grange gain Gold Standards Framework accreditation and providing stimulating and fun activity events for all the residents. In January 2020, I was eager to get back to supporting and providing care again to the residents and became the Care Manager at Woodlands Manor. I joined Cedar Grange and was promoted to Deputy Manager, in June 2021, before returning to Woodlands Manor to become the Home Manager there in August 2021. I am very passionate about promoting the uniqueness and individuality of people and allowing them the freedom of choice.
As a Home Manager, my primary goal is to honour each person's individuality, recognising and respecting who they were and who they are now. I bring a deep understanding and unwavering passion to my work with individuals living with Dementia/Alzheimer’s, ensuring that our home is a safe, happy, and nurturing environment. I make it a priority that person-centered care is not just a concept, but a lived reality for all, fostering a culture of quality and diversity at Woodlands Manor.

My journey at Woodlands Manor began in November 2025. I have worked in an office environment for the last 20 years and, due to family commitments, wanted to work somewhere closer to home. I can honestly say I love my job here at Woodlands Manor. It is fulfilling in ways I didn’t expect. Everyone here is so friendly and has made me feel like a part of the team from my first day.

I am learning every day about the care industry, and I am excited for my future here.
