Astbury Lodge is situated within spacious grounds, a mile away from Ellesmere Port town centre. It caters for 41 residents and has two specialist ten bed households, The Meadows and The Poppies, which provide care for people with dementia.

All areas within Astbury Lodge are now smoke-free, including the lounges, each of which offers a different atmosphere. Several lounges offer the choice of a television and video, whilst others offer an opportunity to relax quietly, whilst maybe reading a book.

At least one of the lounges is fitted with a hearing loop, a discreet device to improve sound reception and aid those with hearing difficulties.

There are several dining rooms where meals are served, or residents can opt to eat in their own rooms if they prefer.

The garden has been renovated by The Princes Trust, which chose Astbury Lodge for their community project. It benefits from a greenhouse, bird feeders and a number of quiet areas where residents can sit whilst enjoying the elements.

A number of services are available to residents, e.g a hairdresser visits on a weekly basis; newspaper and magazine deliveries are arranged with a local newsagent. There is a separate charge for these services, which is charged to residents on a weekly basis.

An activities co-ordinator arranges a wide choice of activities, according to residents’ interests. These include weekly activities such as carpet bowls, bingo, quizzes, local outings within walking distance, as well as other events which take place monthly such as a mobile library, memory box, external entertainers and Sunshine Singers.

A varied and wholesome menu is offered and the cook can cater for any special dietary requirements.

A Church of England service is held monthly at Astbury Lodge and a Roman Catholic priest visits on request.

Astbury Lodge is a five minute walk away from local shops.

The care and dedication from all staff which mum received as a resident at Astbury Lodge was impeccable. Mum was very happy and content during her stay and it was like 'home from home'. I am comforted that Mum had an opportunity to enjoy living at Astbury Lodge and I thank all of the team for my mums
excellent care package and for extending their kindness and compassion to me and my family.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.450)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.450) out of 10 for Astbury Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.700 for Astbury Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (88 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 120 Ratings = 4.7
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.75 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Astbury Lodge is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.75
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 10 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
