Aughton Park provides residential, dementia and short-stay care for up to 50 residents in a thoughtfully designed home in Ormskirk, West Lancashire.

Built on the site of a former convent and winner of a Pinders Design Award, the home combines historic character with modern comfort. It’s conveniently located within walking distance of Aughton Park train station, offering easy access for visitors and local outings.

All bedrooms are single occupancy with en-suite facilities and can be personalised to reflect each resident’s tastes. The home includes a dementia-friendly layout, welcoming lounges, an IT suite, hair salon, and a volunteer-run coffee shop. The garden room conservatory provides a bright space to enjoy views of the secure, circular garden—designed to support independent exploration for residents living with dementia.

Meals are freshly prepared in-house with familiar, comforting dishes like roast dinners, casseroles and stews, as well as themed food nights and personalised birthday cakes. Residents help shape the menus, making dining a social and inclusive experience.

Activities include crafts, fitness, live music, and community events like ‘Aughton Park’s Got Talent.’ Special outings—such as trips to Southport or a Seize the Day university visit—support connection, celebration and purpose.

At Aughton Park, care isn’t just about support, it’s about creating a community where residents thrive. Whether you’re searching for yourself or a loved one, for residential, dementia or short-stay care, the team at Aughton Park are here to help.

Mum moved in the middle of the month and has settled really well. Due to the warm welcome from staff who have ensured mum is well cared for in a kind and considerate and professional manner. Nothing is too much trouble for mum or visiting family. The home is kept clean and tidy, and a warm welcome for
residents and visitors.

After viewing several Care Homes, Aughton Park shone above them all. It was the place my wife, who has Altzheimers, would be going without a doubt when the day came.
Well the day came, and from that first day, the staff and I mean ALL the staff, made the transition a lot easier than I thought.
My
wife is so well looked after I feel like moving in myself. Everything is just so nice and welcoming. Her bedroom and en-suite are cleaned and tidied every day, the food in the restaurant is brilliant. Roast Beef and Yorkshire pudding, with Apple Crumble and custard for pud. All homemade, no brought in on a plate ding meals here. Even spoke to the chef.
Some visits are tough, but staff are always on hand to distract my wife as I leave, usually to the lounge where daily activities abound and all residents encouraged to join in. Be it singing, dancing or outside in the garden which is fantastic and well kept.
My mind is at ease knowing she cannot be in a better place. Thank you.
Reply from Louise Culshaw, Administration Manager at Aughton ParkThank you so much for your lovely words. We love to see you and your lovely furry friend when you come for visits. It gives us great pleasure to hear that you feel happy and reassured with the care delivered and the great variety of home cooked food. Here's to many more happy visits.

My father became a resident at Aughton Park at the end of January, so he is approximately six weeks into his time in the home. The home have been excellent in helping him settle in, patient and caring. He has had several health complications, and whilst not a nursing home have looked after him.
We
all hope he continues to settle. We understand that the management team is under-resourced at the moment. Our experience is that this has not affected his care.
Reply from Louise Culshaw, Administration Manager at Aughton ParkThank you do your very kind words. I am happy to report that we are back to a full house within the management team but I am so glad that the absences did not affect the care that our residents continued to receive.

Mum has recently moved into Aughton Park. We cannot thank Caren and Louise enough for the support they have shown me, my family especially my mum through this really difficult decision to support mum into 24 hour care. Mum has early onset Alzheimer's and so pleased to have found a home which is homely,
friendly and activities on offer each day. Which mum enjoys.
The support for my dad has been incredible through this massive decision and transition for him and mum. The entire family get a friendly welcome from managers, carers and every staff member we meet on visits or speak to on the phone. We know mum is well cared for, safe and as happy as can be. Which is all we can ask.
We are reassured that we have definitely found the perfect home for mum and highly recommend Aughton Park to others.
Reply from Louise Culshaw, Administration Manager at Aughton ParkThank you so much for your lovely review. I will share your lovely words amongst the team. Your mum is a joy to be around and we've found many connections within the home to her profession. We are so happy to hear that we could help and support more than just your mum on this difficult journey.

Although my mum only lived at Aughton Park Care Home for a month, the care she received there was excellent. All the staff, including the manager and administrator, took time to get to know her and to make all of us feel welcome. The care she received at the end of her life in particular was so person-centred,
dignified and respectful. I highly recommend this home.

My mother of 97 was resident at Aughton Park for 3 years until her recent passing. We visited many care homes before choosing Aughton Park as we felt it was the best around and that has proven to be the case. The staff offer care to an exceptionally high standard with compassion and dignity. The management
are approachable and have regular meetings with families to address any issues. The carers always have the interests of the residents at heart and have always been loving and compassionate to my mother. As her dementia and mobility deteriorated they were able to modify her care appropriately to the same high standards. Facilities are excellent with programmes for rolling refurbishment in place and recreational activities and musical sessions provided to residents. Ancillary staff also work to very high standards and all knew my mother on a personal basis. On my regular visits I was always welcomed. I will be eternally grateful to those who provided such wonderful care to my mother.
Reply from Louise Culshaw, Administration Manager at Aughton ParkThank you for such a wonderful review. It was a joy to have your mum with us and she is dearly missed by us all. Your visits are also missed. The other residents and staff enjoyed their chats with you.

My initial impression of Aughton Park was a warm, friendly and homely place, and this has not changed. The management are excellent and interacts with the residents and families. The staff are lovely and hardworking, treating the residents with care and dignity. I am very happy that my friend is here.
All staff have time for the residents. I have visited a few care homes and this is by far superior in warmth and care than most.

All care staff have been helpful, friendly and respectful towards my brother and myself since he arrived 2 months ago, going out of their way to make us feel welcome and building a relationship with my brother. My brother is always clean, tidy and has fresh clothing every day. The management team are
approachable and nothing is too much trouble if we need help or advice. The care home is spotlessly clean and staff work hard to keep it that way. You get a good feeling about the home when you enter it.

My Mother has been at Aughton Park for over 8 years. She is happy in the home and is always eager to return after she has been out. The staff at the home are wonderful and in the time my Mother has been there she has always been treated with respect and care. I would particularly like to praise the
Administrative manager and Senior members of staff who have been at the home since my Mother has been there and have gone far beyond what is expected to help my Mother. The chaplain at the home is also excellent and the activities coordinator makes a huge effort to involve all the residents.
I am pleased that the garden has been improved recently, although I wish that residents could do more activities outside.
I would like to thank everyone at Aughton park for the care they provide and keeping my Mother safe and happy,

My friend has been in the care of this lovely home for over 4 years and the care she receives now is still the same as on day one, the staff are kind, caring and very thoughtful to each individual resident, nothing is too much trouble for them. The home is exceptionally clean and tidy with a good range
of activities and the gardens are maintained to the same high standard. The admin side is run very smoothly and efficiently. The home seems to have found the right balance for the staff and the residents alike as it always has a nice atmosphere.

I am writing this review with sadness that my lovely dad has just passed away but wanted to highlight the wonderful care he was given until the very last day.
Dad was a resident of Aughton Park for 5 years, and his dementia changed as expected over that period. Throughout his stay there dad was so
happy and content. The care provided is second to none , hence why i think dad lived to a great age of 91. He was always dressed smartly, very clean and shaved most days and that didn't waiver for the full 5 years even when personal care had to be increased at the end.
There are always things that can be improved ( some of the ground floor areas need a refurb and the quality of food could be better , but dad didn't notice or complain about either, he was safe and well looked after)
During dads last few weeks he couldn't have been treated with any more dignity respect and love. The team genuinely care and together we were all heartbroken and I am so glad his final days where at Aughton Park.
Reply from Louise Culshaw, Administration Manager at Aughton ParkIt was a joy to have your Dad with us. He always had a smile for everyone he seen and was rarely without his best friend (his dog Charlie). You'll never walk alone will always remind me of your Dad. We miss you all. In the last 10 years, I have visited friends in various care homes in the area and found Aughton Park to be one of the best. Since becoming a resident, I have found it to live up to my expectations. This care home is all that anyone could ask for. My mother in law has been a resident with dementia for 18 months. As happens with this condition she can experience frustration at her situation. It is a testament to the genuine kindness and care of all of the staff that my mother in law always looks
well, and has all her needs taken care of; everything from personal care, to food, company and activities. I could not fault the standards of food, medical attention, cleanliness and communication with family. The reception area has the aura of a pleasant country hotel. But what makes this home special is that there is a warmth at the heart of it, which comes from the warmth of the staff and it's ethos. This is a good place for loved ones who need help. I know from experience not all care homes are like this. Thank you Aughton Park.

Mum is very happy at Aughton Park; she has been there for nearly four years now. She talks highly of the staff for their kindness and the way they care for her an that nothing is too much trouble. She has a lovely room and really appreciates having her own phone and Sky TV, which make a big difference
to her daily life. The small acts of thoughtfulness mean a lot-for example, when she drops something on the floor and staff pick it up for her. We her children are always made welcome by staff when we visit.

My mother has been at Aughton Park for almost 10 years, and seems content despite her dementia. The home is well maintained and always seems comfortable. The staff are professional and seem thorough, and know the residents well. When she has needed medical care or a hospital visit, that has been dealt
with properly and the staff are good at communicating any needs she has. We typically visit unannounced and have never seen any matter of concern; the staff have done what they can to make our visits go well, even through meal-times. We're happy with the support from the staff team: they've stepped in to provide the care that we no longer could.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.688)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.688) out of 10 for Aughton Park is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.688 for Aughton Park is calculated as follows: ( (226 Excellents x 5) + (78 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 314 Ratings = 4.688
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Aughton Park is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
