Aughton Park provides residential, dementia and short-stay care for up to 50 residents in a thoughtfully designed home in Ormskirk, West Lancashire.

Built on the site of a former convent and winner of a Pinders Design Award, the home combines historic character with modern comfort. It’s conveniently located within walking distance of Aughton Park train station, offering easy access for visitors and local outings.

All bedrooms are single occupancy with en-suite facilities and can be personalised to reflect each resident’s tastes. The home includes a dementia-friendly layout, welcoming lounges, an IT suite, hair salon, and a volunteer-run coffee shop. The garden room conservatory provides a bright space to enjoy views of the secure, circular garden—designed to support independent exploration for residents living with dementia.

My sister became a resident at Aughton Park in November 2022. Since then, I have been very impressed with the way things are run there. The care and support are fantastic, and the staff are very caring. It is a very clean care home and is run professionally. The food looks very appetising with a good
selection of items. Christmas time there was organised brilliantly there, making it so nice for everyone.

My mother has been at Aughton Park about 18 months. She entered in a depressed state with significant mental health issues (paranoia). With care and love from the team my mum's mental health has improved dramatically. She is settled, happy and is treated with the greatest respect by the staff. The December
program of events have been great with mum joining in with the dancing (with her walking frame given she is 96).

My mum has been in the dementia unit since Easter this year. The care she has received has been excellent, and nothing has been too much from the carers through to management. The home has extremely high standards both in care and hygiene. Telephone calls are relayed in a highly professional manner.

There seems to have been staff shortages recently. This has resulted in occasional failures to deliver tea breaks, seek residents' wishes re meal choices, and failure to deliver clean laundry (but only occasionally in this case). The carers on duty have continued to perform well.

The standard of accommodation is good and the en-suite facilities excellent. The care workers I have witnessed interacting with my relative are good and respectful. The home is clean and no unpleasant smells. The food my relative tells me is good and he is generally satisfied. The kitchen staff I have
met on visiting are pleasant. There are activities that take place. Concerning value for money, the fees are above some other local homes and this is reflected in the better accommodation. If a resident is self-funding the annual fees are significant. I have had no concerns re security. Communication from the home is satisfactory (predominantly via the admin manager). There are meetings for relatives 2-3 times a year - most at 6.30 at night - which creates issues for me as I do an 80-round-mile trip to visit.

My aunt, aged 99, has lived at Aughton Park for almost a year and has settled well. She has lived alone for many years so having so much company has been stimulating for her. We have been very impressed with communications from the care staff, any illness, fall, medical visits reported by phone straight
away. All her relatives live some distance away and the home has been able to provide support eg for hospital checks and also arranging in-house events including eye test, hair and nail cutting. Aunt appears to enjoy most of the food and is encouraged to drink sufficient fluids. The ecumenical service on Friday is something that my aunt particularly enjoys, along with the visits from the chaplain attached to the Home. Both the care staff and the administrative staff are helpful in quickly resolving any issues.

Dad has lived at MHA for just over 2 years now. We are very happy with the support and care he receives. The permanent staff are amazing and very much go the extra mile to provide the best possible care, and whilst there is inevitably some use of agency staff - it does feel like many are part of the
team and they do a great job to plug the gap. The management team are very accessible and competent and over the last year we have had conversations about dad moving from the first floor to the ground floor dementia area which in the end went very smoothly and dad was able to do a few trial days on the new floor to see how he would adjust. Medical care is second to none. Access to health care professionals is excellent - regular weekly visits from doctor/nurses ensure any infections or concerns are picked up immediately.
Things that could be improved - quality of food, entertainment is fab but they have had problems providing a full timetable and the ground floor needs an upgrade to match the first floor.

I moved my uncle here from a less professional and inappropriate care home in another area. I have been very satisfied with the care provided at Aughton Park and the genuine kindness shown to my uncle. It is a year now since my uncle came to live at Aughton Park and during this time the staff have worked
tirelessly to keep the residents safe in the light of the Covid virus sneaking its way in regardless of their very strict attempts to keep it out. They have provided for the residents' needs throughout and done so with cheerfulness and friendliness. Any concerns I have had about my uncle have been addressed thoroughly and resolved. Management, care staff and everyone involved at Aughton Park have always shown compassion and helped in any way they can. They are easy to talk to, down-to-earth, and knowledgeable. My uncle, only today, commented on how lovely everyone was to him and how nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff. He often mentions how good the food is too!

My Mum was in Aughton Park for respite care for just over a month (April-May 2022). My initial interaction with the home, compared to others, was the first positive - warm, friendly, and efficient. Mum's assessment was also conducted promptly and feedback that she had been accepted was within 24 hours.
Whilst at Aughton Park Mum received excellent care and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. Their approach to running the home is professional, yet relaxed and flexible. Her room was comfortable and the 'wet room' style bathroom was great considering her mobility limitations. I'd just like to close by extending a big 'thank you' to the team!

My mother has settled well into Aughton Park and in spite of her dementia seems reasonably calm and cheerful. The care she receives is kind and encouraging ensuring that she can stay as active as possible given her condition. Activities are provided on a regular basis and mum particularly enjoys the
music therapy sessions. The accommodation is clean, bright, and airy and clothes are laundered well. The food is good and presented in the dining room. All the staff are friendly, kind and have a nice team spirit. The gardens are tended and safe for residents to enjoy. We are happy as a family that mum is receiving the best possible care.

My mother has been a resident at Aughton Park, on the dementia floor, since January 2021. Our (I speak for my sister and 2 brothers) experience of the staff there has always been great. They are polite, helpful, compassionate, and professional. The Administration Manager, in particular, is easy to contact
and very easy to approach. Mum has dementia so we rely heavily on the staff for information and updates. They are excellent at keeping us in the loop. Well done everybody.

My mum became a resident at Aughton Park 4 months ago and I am more than happy with the quality of care that has received since then. Mum soon settled in, which was undoubtedly due to the excellent care, friendliness, and skills demonstrated by the staff. Their knowledge of dementia is very evident
and they are committed to ensuring my mum’s dignity and well-being. Staff are all approachable, helpful, and respectful. They endeavour to answer any questions that I may have, fulfil any requests I make, and keep me fully informed as to my mum’s care. Mum frequently commends the staff, telling me how ‘lovely’ they are. They have been a great support to us as a family. Mum has particularly enjoyed the organised activities such as ‘music and rhyme’ in the garden.
The excellent leadership, management team, care staff, and all other staff contribute to providing a safe, caring and happy ‘home’ for my mum and the other residents. I cannot praise the staff highly enough!

It was a really tough decision to move Dad into a care home in the midst of Covid but on reflection it was such a good move. The care home have been meticulous following the government guidelines but also tried as much as possible to work around the situation and give us as much contact as possible
suggesting social media so we could speak to Dad every day. Since the restrictions have lifted a little we are now able to visit much more frequently and have good quality time with him. Dad loves the food and gets involved in all the activities (including using the pool table) and the staff are doing everything they can to keep him mobile and active. A recent suggestion to move rooms to enable Dad to be nearer to the lift and communal rooms is a great example of the way the staff really care about the residents and want them to have the best quality of life possible. Management are really approachable and the team are so friendly and welcoming. Thanks everyone.

My mother became a resident of Aughton Park at the height of the lockdown and we are extremely grateful to them for accepting her and making the whole process easy and welcoming. As a result of visiting restrictions we are unable to comment on the care home interior but we are extremely pleased and
reassured with the care that she has received. In every interaction with the staff, either at the door or over the telephone, they have all been cheerful, supportive and very helpful. They have assisted and encouraged Mum on countless occasions to keep in touch with family via telephone and video links. We have been impressed with the measures put in place for her physical safety whilst encouraging her to be more active and maintain independence. It is a great comfort to know that she is safe and well cared for.

Although my date for review states June 2020, my uncle has been a resident at Aughton Park for over two years.
From the moment we went to look around the home I felt it was a place of safety, calm and respect for residents.
My uncle has mainly been confined to bed over the last 12 months and the care
he has received has been second to none.
Every member of staff that I have encountered have been so caring, attentive and very professional in everything they do.
They care for my uncle with respect and dignity and also humour which is much needed when he sometimes gets down.
The interactions have been even more important during the pandemic when we have been unable to visit.
The way the home has dealt with the pandemic has been amazing, keeping residents safe has been at the heart of all they do and the home is always clean and a welcoming environment. I thank the staff for all they do for my uncle.
