Aughton Park provides residential, dementia and short-stay care for up to 50 residents in a thoughtfully designed home in Ormskirk, West Lancashire.

Built on the site of a former convent and winner of a Pinders Design Award, the home combines historic character with modern comfort. It’s conveniently located within walking distance of Aughton Park train station, offering easy access for visitors and local outings.

All bedrooms are single occupancy with en-suite facilities and can be personalised to reflect each resident’s tastes. The home includes a dementia-friendly layout, welcoming lounges, an IT suite, hair salon, and a volunteer-run coffee shop. The garden room conservatory provides a bright space to enjoy views of the secure, circular garden—designed to support independent exploration for residents living with dementia.

Meals are freshly prepared in-house with familiar, comforting dishes like roast dinners, casseroles and stews, as well as themed food nights and personalised birthday cakes. Residents help shape the menus, making dining a social and inclusive experience.

Activities include crafts, fitness, live music, and community events like ‘Aughton Park’s Got Talent.’ Special outings—such as trips to Southport or a Seize the Day university visit—support connection, celebration and purpose.

At Aughton Park, care isn’t just about support, it’s about creating a community where residents thrive. Whether you’re searching for yourself or a loved one, for residential, dementia or short-stay care, the team at Aughton Park are here to help.

Having viewed several care homes, looking for a dementia unit suitable for my mum, I was concerned that I might not find somewhere suitable until I arrived at Aughton Park. Having been let in and greeted, offered a beverage, I sat down with a smile on my face. This was it, HOME. Obviously, I was shown
around with everything being just what I'd hoped to find for mum, and for myself and my family - Instant relief!
Reply from Nicola Ugurbascicek, Home Manager at Aughton ParkThank you, Katrina, for such a lovely comment about our Home. It's always a great pleasure to see you at Aughton Park.

Before submitting my review, I read other people's reviews about Aughton Park and thought the reviews say everything I would have liked to say about the care home. It's lovely, just what I wanted for my special mum, simply the best and the staff are amazingly understanding to my mum's needs and foibles.
Who wouldn't want the best for their mum! She was ill at home and the family decision was taken, a period of respite was needed. After a month of respite, mum continued to decline mentally and physically, it was the toughest decision of all to take, to make it permanent.

I'm extremely grateful to the manager, the administrators, the Redcliffe wing carers and residential carers, their actions have demonstrated their compassionate management. I am confident I can trust them with mum's care.
Mum is very happy living there, she praises the staff endlessly, nothing is too much trouble for them, they are always very welcoming to visitors.

Reply from Nicola Ugurbascicek, Home Manager at Aughton ParkMany thanks Eric for your lovely review of Aughton Park, I will ensure this lovely review is shared with all the team here.

My little mum gets the best care in the world, I know when I leave her she is going to be well looked after.
The staff are lovely and go out of their way to make us feel at home, we even had lunch with mum, we so enjoyed it. I am only just getting to know the names of some staff, but one particular
member of male staff is lovely, as are all of them. But whatever uniform he has on he is lovely, always pleasant to my mum, she loves it there as I do. Keep up the good work and give the staff a pay rise, god knows they deserve every penny.
Reply from Louise Culshaw, Administration Manager at Aughton ParkHi Beryl, thank you so much for your review of Aughton Park. It is a pleasure to have your mum stay with us. We really appreciate the feedback and will share it amongst the team.

The staff would not be able to cope on her own. They are always on hand to help in any way. They go out of their way to be helpful. She is kept clean and tidy at all times and is helped with any problems she may have. Her room is always kept neat and tidy. Nothing is too much trouble for them.
Reply from Louise Culshaw, Administration Manager at Aughton ParkThanks for your review Judith. Your mum is the loveliest lady and it is a privilege to care for her. Her cheery face brightens up our day.

Lovely quiet location, home well kept clean at all times. Staff are all super helpful and very supportive of residents and their families. Staff always ready to offer assistance and answer queries and help whenever possible. Can't fault the staff at all, both day and night staff. Always made to feel
welcome. Mum had respite care and would definitely recommend this home, changed my view on the whole care system.

The staff at Aughton Park are amazing, they are all so dedicated and caring for all the residents. There is a lovely family atmosphere the moment you step in and the staff are always helpful and smiling. The management is fantastic at answering any questions and are so reassuring at what can be a very
difficult and emotional time for relatives. I am so grateful that my mum is being cared for at Aughton Park and I know she is in the best possible hands. I strongly recommend Aughton Park Care Home and feel confident that this is a care home in every sense of the word.

Having lived in only two properties for the past sixty-eight years, it was of course extremely difficult for Mum to give up her independence but her deteriorating health meant that she was no longer able to look after herself or be looked after, in her own place.
The decision was taken, reluctantly,
that she should move in to care. I had taken Mum around all of the Care Homes in the Ormskirk/Maghull area some time ago, when she was still able to get about and her choice had been Aughton Park because of the caring and friendly staff, it was clean and she believed that she would be safe there.
When she had to be discharged in to care from the hospital, the staff at Aughton Park helped tremendously to get her settled in and comfortable, quickly.
Although due to further deterioration in her medical condition, she did not stay at Aughton Park as long as we had hoped, the family are very grateful to all at Aughton Park for the first class care they provided to her.
Reply from Wayne Jones, Home Manager at Aughton ParkThankyou for your kind words Ron, it was our pleasure to have looked after and cared for mum. I will pass your comments onto the staff team.

The home is light, bright, clean, comfortable and most important, cheerful with a homely atmosphere.
We have been visitors to the home (remember this is what it is for all living here) for over six years, to the dementia unit.
The staff have all the special qualities to care for our loved ones at
the most difficult and vulnerable time in their lives.
They have empathy, care, understanding, patience, hard work ethic, commitment and big hearts.
This allows us and many many more relatives to have complete peace of mind when we head home after our visits.
Thank you to all staff at MHA.

My mum spent the last 18 months of her life at Aughton Park. She was originally only there for respite, but after 3 weeks she asked if she could stay. She said she felt safe there. The staff are professional, caring and compassionate. They always made time to chat to mum and she considered them not
only her carers but her friends. When Mum passed away, the family were overwhelmed by the kindness shown to them from all the staff. We would recommend Aughton Park.

Mum stayed at Aughton Park for nearly 2 years and then moved to another home so that she could be nearer to family. Whilst at Aughton Park we found the staff to be very caring and attentive but felt that more needed to be done in the way of activities.
Reply from Wayne Jones, Home Manager at Aughton ParkHi Paula, thank you for your review. My wife has been in the care of Aughton Park some 16 months now with Dementia. My wife is content and is receiving first-class care from caring, knowable, staff who are courteous, with a pleasant disposition, projecting a happy persona. The facilities are excellent, an extensive refurbishment is in
progress, the first impressions are very impressive. Aughton Park has recently recruited an activities co-ordinator, a young lady who is making a very good start. I will sign off by wishing all at Aughton Park continued success and thank Aughton Park for the good work and the caring commitment seen daily.

My Father has been a resident at Aughton Park for 15 months and has been cared for by the most wonderful staff. As with any family, the decision to place him in care was not taken lightly and a great deal of thought and research went into it. My first impression was how the staff showed genuine respect
and consideration, not only to the physical but psychological well-being of the residents. All the staff are caring and nothing is ever too much trouble for them which is why I know my Father could not be in a better safer environment.
Reply from Wayne Jones, Home Manager at Aughton ParkThank you for your review Faith, as you know Dad doesn't join in the activities, but does see our chaplain regularly and has 1-1 session with the activity coordinator. Every day I give thanks that we found a place for mum at Aughton Park care home. Having had personal experience of three others in the area (through other relatives) I can say without hesitation that Aughton Park is in a class of its own. Extremely high standards of care and compassion (so important)
are provided by a stable team of experienced staff who work together as one big family. Managers and staff always make time to chat with relatives as well as residents. Whatever time of day you visit, you will find plenty of staff on duty, mingling with residents, dedicated to giving companionship and kindness to those in their care.

The facilities and rooms at Aughton Park are good, the ability to walk outside in a secure and safe environment is comforting. It gives a sense of freedom to the residents and the opportunity for family and friends to visit in pleasant surroundings. The most important part of life in Aughton Park is
the quality of the staff, there is a real feel of caring and professionalism. Their patience with residents in difficult circumstances is very reassuring. My Mum is a resident in the Dementia Unit and my family cannot speak highly enough of the home.

Dad has been in the care home now for just 8 months. He has settled in as well as can be expected, the staff have been very good getting him into a new routine. Life is very difficult as dad was always an out and about person but during the summer he was able to enjoy the outside space in the lovely
gardens.
The staff have all been very professional and supportive as he needs have become greater. We have no issues with the care being given and have always been kept updated with any concerns.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.688)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.688) out of 10 for Aughton Park is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.688 for Aughton Park is calculated as follows: ( (226 Excellents x 5) + (78 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 314 Ratings = 4.688
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Aughton Park is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
