My mum has been in the dementia unit since Easter this year. The care she has received has been excellent, and nothing has been too much from the carers through to management. The home has extremely high standards both in care and hygiene. Telephone calls are relayed in a highly professional manner.

There seems to have been staff shortages recently. This has resulted in occasional failures to deliver tea breaks, seek residents' wishes re meal choices, and failure to deliver clean laundry (but only occasionally in this case). The carers on duty have continued to perform well.

Reply from Nicola Ugurbascicek, Home Manager at Aughton Park

Thank you Ron for the good feedback, we have had some difficulties during the past two years due to staffing issues, hopefully, we are in a better place now with lots of new starters.

The standard of accommodation is good and the en-suite facilities excellent. The care workers I have witnessed interacting with my relative are good and respectful. The home is clean and no unpleasant smells. The food my relative tells me is good and he is generally satisfied. The kitchen staff I have met on visiting are pleasant. There are activities that take place. Concerning value for money, the fees are above some other local homes and this is reflected in the better accommodation. If a resident is self-funding the annual fees are significant. I have had no concerns re security. Communication from the home is satisfactory (predominantly via the admin manager). There are meetings for relatives 2-3 times a year - most at 6.30 at night - which creates issues for me as I do an 80-round-mile trip to visit.

Thanks for a lovely review of our home, I will share with the team, I have scheduled four Relative/Friends of Aughton Park meetings for 2023 and following on from our conversation in relation to afternoon meetings I have scheduled one of these to be in the afternoon, to which I have sent out to all Family and friends.

Delighted with all aspects of how my mother is looked after, by all staff. She seems very content. She enjoys the activities, particularly the musical activities. I personally find all the staff very approachable and nothing too much trouble.

My aunt, aged 99, has lived at Aughton Park for almost a year and has settled well. She has lived alone for many years so having so much company has been stimulating for her. We have been very impressed with communications from the care staff, any illness, fall, medical visits reported by phone straight away. All her relatives live some distance away and the home has been able to provide support eg for hospital checks and also arranging in-house events including eye test, hair and nail cutting. Aunt appears to enjoy most of the food and is encouraged to drink sufficient fluids. The ecumenical service on Friday is something that my aunt particularly enjoys, along with the visits from the chaplain attached to the Home. Both the care staff and the administrative staff are helpful in quickly resolving any issues.

My mum has been in Aughton Park for five months in that time I have been impressed by the level of care that she has been given. The staff that I have met have all been professional, friendly and caring. They provide a range of activities, and services to stimulate the residents. My mum has settled in well and is very happy there.

I moved my uncle here from a less professional and inappropriate care home in another area. I have been very satisfied with the care provided at Aughton Park and the genuine kindness shown to my uncle. It is a year now since my uncle came to live at Aughton Park and during this time the staff have worked tirelessly to keep the residents safe in the light of the Covid virus sneaking its way in regardless of their very strict attempts to keep it out. They have provided for the residents' needs throughout and done so with cheerfulness and friendliness. Any concerns I have had about my uncle have been addressed thoroughly and resolved. Management, care staff and everyone involved at Aughton Park have always shown compassion and helped in any way they can. They are easy to talk to, down-to-earth, and knowledgeable. My uncle, only today, commented on how lovely everyone was to him and how nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff. He often mentions how good the food is too!

My Mum was in Aughton Park for respite care for just over a month (April-May 2022). My initial interaction with the home, compared to others, was the first positive - warm, friendly, and efficient. Mum's assessment was also conducted promptly and feedback that she had been accepted was within 24 hours. Whilst at Aughton Park Mum received excellent care and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. Their approach to running the home is professional, yet relaxed and flexible. Her room was comfortable and the 'wet room' style bathroom was great considering her mobility limitations. I'd just like to close by extending a big 'thank you' to the team!

My mother has settled well into Aughton Park and in spite of her dementia seems reasonably calm and cheerful. The care she receives is kind and encouraging ensuring that she can stay as active as possible given her condition. Activities are provided on a regular basis and mum particularly enjoys the music therapy sessions. The accommodation is clean, bright, and airy and clothes are laundered well. The food is good and presented in the dining room. All the staff are friendly, kind and have a nice team spirit. The gardens are tended and safe for residents to enjoy. We are happy as a family that mum is receiving the best possible care.

My mother has been a resident at Aughton Park, on the dementia floor, since January 2021. Our (I speak for my sister and 2 brothers) experience of the staff there has always been great. They are polite, helpful, compassionate, and professional. The Administration Manager, in particular, is easy to contact and very easy to approach. Mum has dementia so we rely heavily on the staff for information and updates. They are excellent at keeping us in the loop. Well done everybody.

My mum became a resident at Aughton Park 4 months ago and I am more than happy with the quality of care that has received since then. Mum soon settled in, which was undoubtedly due to the excellent care, friendliness, and skills demonstrated by the staff. Their knowledge of dementia is very evident and they are committed to ensuring my mum’s dignity and well-being. Staff are all approachable, helpful, and respectful. They endeavour to answer any questions that I may have, fulfil any requests I make, and keep me fully informed as to my mum’s care. Mum frequently commends the staff, telling me how ‘lovely’ they are. They have been a great support to us as a family. Mum has particularly enjoyed the organised activities such as ‘music and rhyme’ in the garden.

The excellent leadership, management team, care staff, and all other staff contribute to providing a safe, caring and happy ‘home’ for my mum and the other residents. I cannot praise the staff highly enough!

It was a really tough decision to move Dad into a care home in the midst of Covid but on reflection it was such a good move. The care home have been meticulous following the government guidelines but also tried as much as possible to work around the situation and give us as much contact as possible suggesting social media so we could speak to Dad every day. Since the restrictions have lifted a little we are now able to visit much more frequently and have good quality time with him. Dad loves the food and gets involved in all the activities (including using the pool table) and the staff are doing everything they can to keep him mobile and active. A recent suggestion to move rooms to enable Dad to be nearer to the lift and communal rooms is a great example of the way the staff really care about the residents and want them to have the best quality of life possible. Management are really approachable and the team are so friendly and welcoming. Thanks everyone.

Really lovely care home, clean and tidy, and the staff know their residents and are really caring about them. There is nothing they won't do to try to help. Good use of technology so that long-distance family can see their parents.

We have always found Management and staff to be friendly, approachable and caring both on a personal basis and on the telephone. Since lockdown, we have been kept informed of our relative's progress and feel secure in the knowledge that the care and attention which we witnessed before lockdown has continued.

My mother became a resident of Aughton Park at the height of the lockdown and we are extremely grateful to them for accepting her and making the whole process easy and welcoming. As a result of visiting restrictions we are unable to comment on the care home interior but we are extremely pleased and reassured with the care that she has received. In every interaction with the staff, either at the door or over the telephone, they have all been cheerful, supportive and very helpful. They have assisted and encouraged Mum on countless occasions to keep in touch with family via telephone and video links. We have been impressed with the measures put in place for her physical safety whilst encouraging her to be more active and maintain independence. It is a great comfort to know that she is safe and well cared for.

Although my date for review states June 2020, my uncle has been a resident at Aughton Park for over two years.
From the moment we went to look around the home I felt it was a place of safety, calm and respect for residents.
My uncle has mainly been confined to bed over the last 12 months and the care he has received has been second to none.
Every member of staff that I have encountered have been so caring, attentive and very professional in everything they do.
They care for my uncle with respect and dignity and also humour which is much needed when he sometimes gets down.
The interactions have been even more important during the pandemic when we have been unable to visit.

The way the home has dealt with the pandemic has been amazing, keeping residents safe has been at the heart of all they do and the home is always clean and a welcoming environment. I thank the staff for all they do for my uncle.

During these unprecedented times, and being unable to visit Mum, it has been most reassuring to know that the level of care she is receiving at Aughton Park, is second to none. This is an excellent home, well designed, spacious, bright and clean. The staff are friendly and caring and there is a good programme of activities to keep residents occupied during the day. Aughton Park Care Home is the only home that I would have felt comfortable about leaving my dad in. The staff are exceptional, in every way. I can talk about the care given and upcoming treatments, with confidence, to any member of the team, or management.
The activities are individualised, and those who wish to participate get a lot of pleasure from them. There is a gentlemen's club, which helps the male residents keep their identities going.

Each room has an ensuite wet room, recently refurbished with lovely white and grey tiles with a splash of glitter. This to me was extremely important, not only for his dignity but also for my dad's health, as infection is far less easily transmitted from one resident to another. I can't thank them enough for their care and compassion during the lockdown, not only towards my dad but also to me. They have helped to make this horrid time, somewhat bearable.

Aughton Park is a well-run, well-staffed, friendly home, where many of the staff have been there years, and they use very few temp staff. This may be one reason why they have managed to keep COVID from spreading in the home.

They were one of the few places willing to accept my mum, who had dementia but was fit and didn't want to go in a home, so high escape risk! They soon made her feel safe, relaxed and at home.
