Birchfield Residential Care Home Reviews (49)
Birchfield Residential Care Home has a Review Score of 9.0 (9.021) out of 10, based on 6 reviews in the last 2 years.
Over all time Birchfield Residential Care Home has 49 reviews.
Even more concerning, a full bottle of indigestion medicine, plus her ear drops and eye drops, all disappeared. She was only given 11 days of medication despite staying for two full weeks.
I was promised a television in her room, but this never happened. Most distressing, she was not given a bath or shower at all.
For over £2300, I expected basic care and dignity. This fell far below acceptable standards.
My mum was lucky to have found Birchfield. The home is beautiful , warm, safe and clean . The staff are all amazing, every single member of staff work hard to keep my mum safe and happy . Always caring and have brilliant personalities which make them the best at their jobs I cannot praise them enough . Mums room is always spotless and mum says the food is great . Many activities planned for spending days in and there is always a chance of an outing if the weather permits . Always someone at the end of the phone if there are any concerns and the reassurance and confidence my mum has while living there is wonderful. I cannot thank everyone enough for what they do .
We're incredibly grateful for your kind words about the team, every member of staff takes great pride in...
She enjoys the food and all the residents have a beautiful cake on their birthday.
Would highly recommend Birchfield .
Thank you so much for your beautiful words. It means the world to us to know that your mum has settled in so well and feels happy and cared for at Birchfield. Jackie and the whole team take great pride in creating a warm, welcoming home where every resident is treated with love, dignity, and...
She has been treated with the utmost kindness and respect and has responded well to the care she receives. Their priority is her safety, health and comfort.
We are happy to recommend Birchfield, where my mother has been for the last 7 years to anyone needing to place a family member in care.
Thank you for taking the time to share your review. We truly appreciate your kind words. Your mum was a valued member of our Birchfield family, and she will be deeply missed.
Birchfield keep me informed of her progress and the staff are extremly helpfull when I try and arrange a phone call with my Aunt, or ask for an update in her progress.
The home is always clean, my aunt loves the food and she is looking better for it having regained some weight. She engages with people far better now than when she was at home and there are activities that i never dreamed she would take part in before.
When I speak with friends in a similar position, I apprciate how reasonable the fee is for the care given. The office staff are always very helpful with any questions I have.
Thank you so much for your review. It's our pleasure to care for your aunt.
Staff are caring and friendly and make my family feel welcome when we visit.
Dad enjoys the food and wandering round the home with rooms beautifully decorated, lots of books for him to read.
He can sit in the 2 gardens and conservatory I feel he has a lot of freedom whilst being safe.
He enjoys the food and sitting in the dining room and chatting with the other residents.
So many activities organised by the activities coordinator -notice board shows what is on offer - includes lunches out and days out to places which family members can also attend.
Every resident gets a beautiful birthday cake , card and chocolates from the care home.
The manager and deputy manager are very approachable and keep me informed of any health issues - visiting doctor, optician, free hearing aid provision.
My mum has been at Birchfield Residential Care Home for over a year, she is very happy there and is treated with respect and kindness. She is encouraged to take part in activities, arts and crafts, she has her nails and hair done regularly. Our family feel secure in the knowledge that she is well looked after by kind and caring staff.
All staff including management, nurses care staff, chefs cooks, cleaners, and maintenance staff are really helpful and informative. My father receives excellent care. I would recommend Birchfield to any family needing to place a family member in care to use this home. Excellent entertainment programme also.
Following a couple of visits to hospital it became clear my Aunt was unable to live independently any longer and she was offered a place at Birchfield. As a family, we were very concerned about how my aunt would take to this, as she has lived alone for many years and was fiercely independent. Our fears were unfounded as she has clearly settled in well, reporting that the food is mostly good, the staff are kind, and she has made new friends there. We all live away so cannot visit as often as we'd like but staff are always happy to put my aunt on the phone for a chat. When we are able to visit, the staff are welcoming and happy to provide updates on my aunt. The home is warm, clean and secure. There are regular activities, posted on the website, and it is always wonderful to see photos of my aunt looking happy and well cared for, in between seeing her in person. I am confident her well-being has improved through the care provided at Birchfield. We thank all the staff for caring for her.
Thank you so much for your kind words. Our care team work hard to ensure the well-being and happiness of all our residents and we're so pleased your aunt has settled in so well.
She was obviously reluctant to leave her home and found difficulty settling. However, the staff did everything to make her welcome and happy.
I visit her weekly and see how she has adapted to the home, her great relationship with staff who all show warmth and friendship to her. As a visitor, I am always made welcome and encouraged to attend any events they have.
The home is always spotless and nicely decorated.
There are small areas where we can meet with my sister.
The home keeps me updated on any issues or concerns they may have.
There is a wide variety of activities going on in the home from pampering sessions to entertainers and various outings.
The gardens are well-maintained and with lovely seating areas.
There is a choice of meals and residents dietary needs are met.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this home.
Our concerns were completely unfounded, as the Birchfield staff welcomed her and family members as soon as we stepped through the door, making her feel "at home". Mum has since settled in and is frequently laughing and joking with the staff. She has also made new friends who she sees every day, whereas at home she was lonely and dependent on people visiting her.
We are also pleased to see her well-being and health have massively improved. Her family are relieved that she is now safe and well looked after and cannot thank the staff enough for what they are doing.
Care is excellent, food is well-cooked and substantial. Plenty of activities for my dad to take part in. Days out are tailored for the residents. Provide all the support needed, which is excellent. Staff are supportive of residents and family.
With both myself and my brother both working away from home we needed somewhere for Mum to be safe and cared for.
Despite being very reluctant to go into care, Mum now has settled in and made friends.
The staff are caring and attentive to Mum and her needs. When we visit, staff always make time to chat and update us on Mum's health both physical and mental.
No one likes having to put parents into long-term care but we couldn't have placed Mum in a safer, friendlier more caring place.
Her health has improved and her appetite is back to normal.
Thank you to all the staff at Birchfield for their professionalism, care and dedication.
I have found in a very short period of time that all residents are treated with the utmost respect and dignity.
After visiting the home in advance of my relative being admitted to the home it was suggested that he come for lunch and stay a couple of hours to see if he liked it and of course the food. It goes without saying that he thought the food and staff were very nice and couldn’t wait to be staying there.
If I or my relative have any queries we are always given helpful advice
I would highly recommend this care home.
Thank you, Birchfield.
My Mum was admitted for convalescence after a hospital stay after a fall at home. She didn’t have the confidence to stay at home. One would say she was very ‘anxious’. The staff made her feel welcome and at home. Despite her reluctance, within a short space of time, she was encouraged to participate in the organised activities. She enjoyed these and also made friends with the other residents. Her appetite returned, and she enjoyed the meals (apart from the ‘chip butties’) and she clearly benefited from having a regular regime and supervised medication. Living abroad it was important for me to get regular updates by phone or email. Despite the distance, the manager and the staff were always helpful in getting my Mum on the phone or giving me a quick update. Also when I visited they were great.
Thank you, Stephen, for your very kind review. Your mother was a pleasure to care for and we are delighted that she is settling well back at home.
My mum has been at Birchfield for approx 5 years and has always had the best possible care and support by hardworking and very friendly staff who always make you feel welcome. The care home has a very homely feel to it. The staff have always kept us informed of mums care especially over the Covid Pandemic when we couldn't visit. They provided telephone and video calls which helped over this difficult time. Activities are he,o throughout the year with themed days and meals and afternoon teas. Thank you to all the staff for your continued care.
Thank you for your kind words which will be passed on to our staff team. We are so pleased to receive your review and are privileged to be able to look after your mum.
Mum has lived at Birchfield for about five years now and has always been well cared for especially now she spends longer in bed. Birchfield staff have always been supportive and friendly and treat mum with dignity at all times. Activities and events are held regularly for residents enjoyment and well being. Excellent care home.
Thank you so much for your lovely testimonial. Your mum is a lovely lady and it's our privilege to care for her.
Always available for a chat and keep me fully informed of my mothers care. Have worked competently and professionally over last year despite the Covid-19 pandemic. They ensure my mum is cared for and offer a wide range of activities.
Thank you so much for your very kind review. It's a pleasure to care for your mum; she's a wonderful lady.
My friend moved into Birchfield after a stay in hospital. She used to live alone. The staff are very caring towards her. She has made many friends and enjoys all the activities, bingo, senior exercises, dominoes. She has not been out when living alone but now she has been to Blackpool to the ice arena, bowling and Christmas meal out. She is always laughing with the staff and is very contented. All aspects of the home are brilliant, form the management, support, food and hygiene. Would definitely recommend Birchfield.
Thank you so much for your positive feedback, we appreciate this and will be sure to cascade this to all staff. Staff work very hard and will continue to do this. We will definitely be planning more outings again this year and love having your friend with us, she brightens everyone's spirits and is a wonderful lady who is always happy and smiling.
Friendly welcoming atmosphere, homely and not like an institution as many similar homes can be. Obliging friendly staff, good food. Many activities and themed days which are very beneficial.
Thank you very much for your lovely comments. It is always positive to hear feedback like this and staff will very much appreciate it. It is a pleasure to have your relative with us at Birchfield and we hope you continue to feel this way going forward. Thank you.
