The Grove Care Centre is a 28-bedded home offering a combination of single rooms and double rooms, 26 of which have en-suite facilities.

Originally built in 1924, The Grove is surrounded by an acre of beautiful, mature gardens at the heart of the village of Thurnscoe near Barnsley.

The Grove has been extensively upgraded and refurbished to modernise the facilities and to provide specific specialist care for residents with dementia. The re-decoration and new furniture provide cosy and comfortable surroundings and new, state-of-the-art equipment assures the health and safety of residents with limited mobility.

Residents enjoy a range of social activities, and The Grove regularly welcome singers, musicians and other entertainers to the home. For those who prefer peace and quiet, and for residents to pursue their own hobbies, there are dedicated areas for relaxation.

The home has a dedicated team of staff with a wealth of experience within this sector. Some staff at the Grove Care Home have over 20 years of service and the staff are passionate about respect and dignity for each resident in the home.

The Grove has been highlighted in the Barnsley Employers forum for the way End of Life Care is delivered, and although the home does not have a designated End of Life Champion, every staff member in the home is an End of Life Champion and all residents will feel the love and respect.

The Grove Care Home has a new computerised care plan system called Person Centred Software where staff evidence care interactions and care planning as it happens.

All catering is locally sourced and freshly home cooked, with a varied menu catering for all dietary requirements. These menus/meals are discussed with the residents of The Grove and they are healthy and well balanced.

This is one of the hardest jobs in the world, I feel. The staff here are really friendly, they work extremely hard to make sure all residents are comfortable.

It's really clean and tidy. Staff here always make us feel welcome and nothing's too much trouble for any member of staff. I'm relieved and

content knowing my Nan is in really good hands.

My mother moved in just before Christmas and settled in very quickly thanks to the very kind and friendly staff.
She continues to have very good care with excellent meals and friendly assistance.
The staff have also been friendly and helpful to family and friends who are encouraged to visit at any
time.

From Day 1 the carers have been amazing with settling Mum into her new home.
Nothing is too much trouble for Mum or indeed family members.
They take the time to sit and chat with residents, which is lovely to see.
Everyone is made to feel special.
I can't think of a better place that I would like
Mum to be in her twilight years. Thank you!

Mum went in The Grove when she knew she was near the end of her life and she knew that neither she nor us could manage her health problems in her own home. Every member of staff that we met gave mum extreme care and kindness and we can't thank them enough. I would also like to thank the district nurse
and praise the relationship between the staff at The Grove and the district nurses as it contributed enormously to helping mum through her last days.
Reply from Jill Andrew, Regional Manager at The Grove Care HomeThank you so much for your kind words and review. I know the manager and her staff will be delighted that you could entrust the care of your mum to us and that you saw the kindness and care that was given.

The staff are very caring towards all the residents. They spend time with them. They are also considerate to families. If I ever have any issues which I need to discuss, they listen and action a response. If needed they discuss them with the seniors or manager.

The manager is very proficient in the

role. She also is very caring and easily approachable if I need to discuss any issues.

Very well run care home and I would highly recommend it.

From the day I contacted The Grove, I was struck by their attention to detail and professionalism.
They took over my mum's care and were able to advise me what are would be needed taking a huge weight off me. The home was well maintained and set in lovely surroundings. I cannot thank them enough.

My father has been in The Grove for over 2 years they look after him so well and I never worry about him. My mother is there at the moment for respite and is very happy. So much so she wants to stay. The carers are so lovely and the food is always cooked to perfection. I know my parents are safe and
well cared for. Thank you The Grove.

As a family, we thank all the staff at this amazing care home. My brother-in-law passed away in The Grove Care Home this week. We couldn't have wished for better care for him. He and ourselves were treated with the utmost respect and professionalism. The kindness shown to us all was lovely, especially
to his elderly wife. Nothing was too much trouble. Everyone had a comforting smile and a kind word, (as well as a lovely cup of tea). We were made to feel welcome at all times and kept informed of any changes. You can see how hard everyone works and it shows in the deliverance of care. Thank you from the Cooke family.

My auntie was on end of life care after developing tumours which were very sudden. After visiting a number of times and finally in her final hours on this earth, I would just like to commend all the staff for the kindness and dignity shown. They made it a bit easier and went beyond what was expected.
Thank you so so much.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.665)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.665) out of 10 for The Grove Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.815 for The Grove Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (139 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 168 Ratings = 4.815
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Grove Care Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 28 registered maximum number of service users is 5.6, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
