Overall Experience

When you first visit Sandholme Fold you walk into a well cared for home, clean and modern. The staff are fantastic, friendly and genuinely care for the residents. I have the peace of mind to know that mum is safe, clean and extremely well cared for. The food is excellent and varied with lots of choices and treats. There is a lovely modern and light communal area where residents can interact and socialise with plenty of activities going on throughout the day. Ranging from visits from entertainers, singing, exercise classes, celebrations for special occasions. Visits from schools who come and interact with the residents and a religious service for anyone who wants to join in. There is a beautiful outside space for people to sit and enjoy the weather. A local hairdresser comes in each week. Mum suffers with Dementia, she has made friends and enjoys joining in with everything. She is very happy and content and is always smiling, this is very important to me.

The staff and management have been extremely helpful in ensuring my mother has as comfortable a time as possible in the home. Staff also recognise that my mother had a life before her time in the care home and that she is not just 'another resident'. Staff have also been very helpful in assisting the family to optimise my mother's stay.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with the staff and facilities at Sandholme.
Both the staff & management work hard, and whilst occasionally they can be distracted with day-to-day matters, they always make time for a chat and to update me on Mum's situation.
Whilst the initial move into the home was problematic (outside the control of the care home) they assisted the process and provided support when required which was much appreciated.
Food and activities are good though additional afternoon ones would be appreciated - the ad-hoc trips they organise are always well received.

Thanks once again to the team for the support provided.

My Mum is very settled at Sandholme Fold. The staff are very caring and they have become accustomed to my mum's needs and her medical condition. She does not have the best appetite and meals are not always to her liking, but there are always other options of food and snacks available. We appreciate the care and love that is shown to my Mum any issues are dealt with quickly and efficiently and staff do their utmost to make her time at Sandholme Fold happy and safe, we are grateful to have found it.

Mum has been a resident at Sandholme for many years now. Staff have always treated mum as an individual, understood her mental health issues, and respected her way of wanting to live. Over the last couple of years mums physical health has deteriorated and her care needs have increased significantly. These needs have been met well by all staff including managers, team leaders, care staff, admin, laundry, kitchen ,handyman and cleaners. Sandholme has an amazing group of staff, many who have been there for long periods, who treat mum with care, compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. They show a loving manner to mum and always manage to bring a smile to her face. The home is always clean and tidy, has lovely green surroundings, good food, and a warm welcome always awaits visitors. Staff are always available to discuss and address any concerns, and the managers door is always open.

A big thank you to all the team at Sandholme, your hard work and caring attitudes are appreciated.

My father arrived at Sandholme Fold on 21/5/24, he was greeted in to the care home with open arms, while he was there he had a lovely room and very helpful and friendly staff, it took him a couple of days to settle in but once he had time to see what the care home offered to him he was very happy, his wife had been taken into hospital after a fall so he needed to be cared for and looked after as he has got a disability (right arm missing ) he is a very quiet person who keeps himself to himself so he enjoyed the care the staff gave him and the meals they provided, this definitely opened his eyes to the care home living. I would like to thank all the staff at Sandholme Fold, he left on 10/6/24 to move to a different care home to join his wife. Thank You for looking after him in a great way.

Mum has been at Sandholme for many years. Over the period she has been at Sandholme her health has deteriorated and her care needs have increased significantly. Her dementia has got to the point where she can't really understand what anyone says to her and she can't speak to tell anyone what she wants or needs.
Over the Covid period, I was concerned at a dramatic weight loss and it seemed to take a long time before this was picked up and acted upon with special supplements in her food etc. My perception is that she lacked support from staff at this time with her eating and needed to have food appropriate to make it easier for her to eat and higher calories.

On more recent visits I believe that Mum is now taken to the restaurant for all meals and support is available for her requirements. Currently the quantity and quality of staff seem to have improved significantly and I don't have any significant concerns.

Overall, Mum is well cared for at Sandholme, and the home is a nice, safe place for her to live. Some of the staff are friendly and caring, but this is inconsistent. Mum's condition makes it hard to assess the overall care that residents receive. Sometimes we visit, and Mum and her room are clean and tidy, other times, less so.

Mum has been a resident of Sandholme Fold for 18 months. During this time, Mum has been well cared for by staff who have expertly adapted to Mum's ever-changing needs. Sandholme Fold has many staff who have worked there for several years, and in their words, they consider themselves 'family'. I think this is very important as a high turnover of staff would reflect an unsettled staff, and this certainly would not be in Mum's best interest. Everyone here is well-acquainted with Mum's character, and many show genuine love and affection for her. Everyone is professional and trustworthy. I have peace of mind knowing that Mum is safe and cosy. Sandholme Fold is clean and relatively modern and is surrounded by trees and gardens. Mum has a beautiful aspect from her room. Thank you, everyone.

Dad has come on in leaps and bounds since arriving at Sandholme.
The care he receives is right for his current needs, and should he require any further help, he just needs to ask.
He is involved with resident committee meetings, which is encouraged.
There are always activities at the home, along with regular guests, school visits and outings, which he is keen to go on. The reality is that prior to coming to the home, Dad had falls every day at home. Since being at the home, given timely medications, meals encouraged fluids, etc, he has fallen zero times.
The staff are very good. They know their residents. Dad has capacity and has discussed with them if he has concerns. They will endeavour to sort or make relevant referrals. They have a good working relationship with the local GP surgery, who will discuss matters with the home or visit if needed.

After discussing concerns I may have had, I felt reassured by the responses and actions.

Happy staff who have time to listen to my concerns about my mother. My mother's room is clean and tidy. There are regularly organised events each week i.e. a choir, keep fit (exercises for the elderly that are not too difficult for them), crafts, bingo and church service. A themed outside event this year is a Caribbean Summer Fayre, where relatives/friends and staff can interact with the residents and have food and fun. Furthermore, there will be a tombola and other stalls of interest.
My mother reassures me that she is happy at this wonderful care home by the smiles I receive when I visit her. I ask her each time I visit if she would like to come home; she tells me, 'I like it here. The staff are good and care for me'.
The residents enjoy good food and nourishment from the careful planning and attention to detail of what each resident likes/dislikes.

The garden is most suitable for the needs of the residents; clean, safe, an array of flowers, comfy seats and more.

Dad has been at Sandholme for over three years now and has vascular dementia. The staff in all areas of running the home work hard in maintaining a homely, safe environment for the residents. The carers are friendly and professional, and the excellent manager is always approachable. Dad doesn't join in the activities, but there are regular events and things going on - it's great to see local schools getting involved to bridge the generation gap! We are very happy Dad is cared for at Sandholme Fold.

The home is clean, well furnished and has a garden to sit in. It has good food. Every room has a TV plus a toilet and wash basin. The rooms are cleaned regularly. Events are organised for us, such as bingo and a visiting artist, to help us improve our artwork. The staff are polite and helpful.

Mum moved into Sandholme in November. She is happy there. The staff are friendly, caring and helpful, and nothing is too much trouble, and they spend a lot of quality time with the residents. The atmosphere is lovely, and there is a lot of fun and laughter. The home is very clean. I have no hesitation in recommending Sandholme as a care home for any family member.

Mum has settled into Sandholme so well, much better than we expected. The staff are so caring, and it shows in all they do for her. She is happy and content. I now get quality time with her. She was so anxious all the time when she was at home. She recognises who I am and enjoys her time with me; I'm sure this is down to the reassurance and care she gets at Sandholme.
