Vicarage Court Care Home is a multi award winning nursing home, located in the scenic surroundings of the Yorkshire countryside, near Pontefract Racecourse. A qualified nursing team provide personalised care including for specialist conditions such as residential dementia, general nursing, elderly residential and young persons physical disability. They can cater for specialist care packages to suit complex resident needs.

Established for 30 years, it has new state of the art facilities with the team boasting many years of experience in management of long-term care needs. There are 10 lounges, a courtyard, balcony areas and two acres of gardens for residents to enjoy.

In 2021, HealthWatch awarded the home the "Putting People First" award. This was for the team's response to COVID crisis and not losing any residents to COVID. In 2020, they won at the British Care Awards. Previous to that they own "Employer of the Year" (2014) from Wakefield College.

Day care and respite care are available. A versatile range of bedrooms can suit individuals with differing needs, while there is a choice of comfortable living areas and a sun lounge. Large luxury apartments for couples or individual residents are available.

Since day one in April 2018 there has always been a caring, smiling, helpful member of staff there to greet you.
My father always told me they're worth their weight in gold here and when I was down you knew there would be a smiley face waiting for you when you visited.

My mum went to Vicarage Court to receive end of life care. She was treated with compassion and dignity up to the very end. All staff are very caring and do their utmost for the residents.


Communication between shift change could be improved as I found myself repeating the same thing to 4 different

nurses, but whenever I asked for anything it was done immediately.

The whole team lives and breathes the philosophy that they work in "Dad's home". They work together to build a new community for residents. Dad's health and positive attitude have grown and improved since he moved in and he feels valued. Thank you to the whole Vicarage Court team.

Thank you for taking such good care of my mum whilst my husband recovers from surgery. It has been a hectic time for me and to know that mum is so comfortable here is such a relief. She usually stays when we go on holiday and always tells me how lovely and caring the staff are. Mum rarely makes new
memories now but she can remember her stays here. It takes a lot of stress away knowing they are here for us when we need them.

There aren't words to convey the depth of gratitude our family have for the love and care given to Mum. The staff bore her fear and distress and gave her care and support in return; this has been priceless to us always, and especially as her dementia progressed. We have witnessed throughout their
compassion and professionalism during her five and a half years there. In addition to this the staff have offered me honesty and warmth; a time to laugh and to cry. I will always hold their generosity of spirit in my heart. I'm grateful to them all for carrying us through a very emotional ride.

Vicarage Court is a well organised, welcoming care home. It has a warm and friendly environment and we feel my mum is safe and well cared for here. There are various activities/groups to join in with. The building layout means the residents have a choice of areas to spend their time in and this is also
important for visitors. There is a large conservatory looking out towards the garden area. The food is of a high standard and communications between staff and family are excellent.

We visited a number of care homes and tried a couple for a short-term stay before deciding on Vicarage Court Care Home. One major plus point is that the building is large so residents are not cramped.


Rooms are well designed and comfortable and frequently cleaned. Staff are friendly and attentive

to the residents and bring information on residents activities to visiting relatives.

The staff are very friendly to both my mother in law and our family and friends. She is well looked after and we feel she is happy there. I cannot praise the staff enough for all their kindness and care. A special thank you to the unit manager who I think goes above and beyond her duties to get the
