Not always dressed properly. Items go missing i.e. dentures lost and never found. Room floor is very uneven.

This care home is very friendly and welcoming. My mum is very well cared for and any problems we have ever encountered have been dealt with in a professional manner. In my mum's words, she is very happy and settled at The Sycamores.

My experience has been very positive and my mother has felt happy and settled since the very first day (almost a year ago). However, she is reasonably mobile and able to get to the toilet alone. I would have concerns if this was not the case, having observed other residents.

The Sycamores provide a clean, safe, warm and friendly environment which enables my mum to feel valued and involved in everything that happens on a daily basis. The menu choice for meals is varied and is good. Entertainment is provided, bingo etc and several special occasions, singing acts and crafting displays supplement these. The Sycamores is run well with all staff being very friendly and treating every resident with dignity.

My mum went into The Sycamores Care Home from hospital, she could barely walk and had never been in a care home. On arrival, me and my sister were greeted by so many lovely, genuine carers, we were told by a young man anything Mum wanted or needed they would ensure she would get it. My mum has been bathed, fed lovely meals, nothing is too much trouble. After only four days, we can see a huge improvement, they even do Mum's laundry. So many nice things about this care home, we know Mum is getting well looked after.

There seems to be a shortage of staff and the ones that are there find it difficult to do all the jobs. The washing of the resident's clothes is really good.

Overall Experience

My cousin has been a resident of the Sycamores for 1.5 years. I regularly visit about twice a week and I have always found the manager and administrator to be excellent, caring, efficient and welcoming. All the carers, cleaners and kitchen staff have very high standards. The Sycamores is very clean, tidy and organised. The residents are always cared for very well and treated with respect. The activities coordinator keeps residents entertained and interested, to give them a better quality of life.

My mum was admitted in May 2022 to a "discharge to assess" bed. This is our first experience of a care home as a family, and we were very impressed with the overall standard and the care and compassion shown by the staff. Mum has settled in quickly, as a result, while we await her assessment and discharge.

My dad was admitted to The Sycamores after being discharged from hospital and he liked it straight away. The environment and food were excellent and staff caring and friendly. The home helped my father to become more independent and confident and we were able to take him out regularly prior to his discharge home. All the staff and residents signed cards for him when he was leaving. Plenty of activities throughout the days also.

Mum settled in very quickly at The Sycamores. The staff are very friendly, especially one member of staff, in particular. Mum is always happier when he is working as he's extremely helpful and caring. The only thing I would say is the home needs more staff and the communication between staff and relatives could be better, but overall, Mum seems happy.

Review from Gill S (Daughter of Resident) published on 14 May 2021 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My mum was a resident here for 7 months - both as respite and permanent. I can't praise the staff enough - her care has been of the highest quality. Despite living 250 miles away from the home, any worries and concerns about my mum's health and care were quickly allayed due to the staff's helpfulness, patience and support, as they've explained procedures and routines at every stage. As for my mum, she has enjoyed the food, the activities, and the social side of the home as well as the company of her carers - she will miss them. The manager, as with all the staff, has been approachable and easily accessible, which allowed the transfer of my mum to another home to run smoothly and efficiently. The only reason we have moved our mum is to be nearer family. If we could have moved the home too, we would've done as she's been very happy there.

Reply from The Sycamores, Home Manager at The Sycamores

Thank you so much for your lovely comments, Gill. It was a pleasure to have been trusted to care for your Mum during what was a difficult year due to the pandemic. She is missed at the home both by staff and residents. We hope she is settling well in her new home.
