My experience has been very positive and my mother has felt happy and settled since the very first day (almost a year ago). However, she is reasonably mobile and able to get to the toilet alone. I would have concerns if this was not the case, having observed other residents.

The Sycamores provide a clean, safe, warm and friendly environment which enables my mum to feel valued and involved in everything that happens on a daily basis. The menu choice for meals is varied and is good. Entertainment is provided, bingo etc and several special occasions, singing acts and crafting
displays supplement these. The Sycamores is run well with all staff being very friendly and treating every resident with dignity.

Wow! What can I say? The home is amazing. Staff are always so caring and friendly. My mum is very settled and content. Mum always says she loves it here. Food always looks good although I haven't eaten it.

My mum went into The Sycamores Care Home from hospital, she could barely walk and had never been in a care home. On arrival, me and my sister were greeted by so many lovely, genuine carers, we were told by a young man anything Mum wanted or needed they would ensure she would get it. My mum has been
bathed, fed lovely meals, nothing is too much trouble. After only four days, we can see a huge improvement, they even do Mum's laundry. So many nice things about this care home, we know Mum is getting well looked after.

My cousin has been a resident of the Sycamores for 1.5 years. I regularly visit about twice a week and I have always found the manager and administrator to be excellent, caring, efficient and welcoming. All the carers, cleaners and kitchen staff have very high standards. The Sycamores is very clean,
tidy and organised. The residents are always cared for very well and treated with respect. The activities coordinator keeps residents entertained and interested, to give them a better quality of life.

My mum was admitted in May 2022 to a "discharge to assess" bed. This is our first experience of a care home as a family, and we were very impressed with the overall standard and the care and compassion shown by the staff. Mum has settled in quickly, as a result, while we await her assessment and discharge.

My dad was admitted to The Sycamores after being discharged from hospital and he liked it straight away. The environment and food were excellent and staff caring and friendly. The home helped my father to become more independent and confident and we were able to take him out regularly prior to his discharge
home. All the staff and residents signed cards for him when he was leaving. Plenty of activities throughout the days also.

Mum settled in very quickly at The Sycamores. The staff are very friendly, especially one member of staff, in particular. Mum is always happier when he is working as he's extremely helpful and caring. The only thing I would say is the home needs more staff and the communication between staff and relatives
could be better, but overall, Mum seems happy.

Mum has settled into The Sycamores really well. The staff are really friendly. Mum is so fond of one member of staff, in particular, he really is so good with her. Just to say you could do with some more staff and a little bit more communication between staff and relations.

My mum was a resident here for 7 months - both as respite and permanent. I can't praise the staff enough - her care has been of the highest quality. Despite living 250 miles away from the home, any worries and concerns about my mum's health and care were quickly allayed due to the staff's helpfulness,
patience and support, as they've explained procedures and routines at every stage. As for my mum, she has enjoyed the food, the activities, and the social side of the home as well as the company of her carers - she will miss them. The manager, as with all the staff, has been approachable and easily accessible, which allowed the transfer of my mum to another home to run smoothly and efficiently. The only reason we have moved our mum is to be nearer family. If we could have moved the home too, we would've done as she's been very happy there.

Steve Hague

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2015

Steve Hague has been the Home Manager at The Sycamores for eight years. His ‘can-do’ attitude is appreciated by social services and local discharge teams; who know they can ring Steve and he will attempt to make space for a new resident, no matter what time of the day or week.


Steve operates a tight ship and is regularly full, due to the reputation he has created.


“We have activities running every day and encourage all residents to get involved and to socialise.


Steve’s personal hobbies include one of his lesser-known skills fly fishing and he spends many hours fly tying.
The Care Team at The Sycamores strives to deliver the highest levels of care to our residents.


Our trained, experienced and compassionate Care Team will devise a bespoke care plan so you can rest assured your loved one will receive the best possible care.

Sandra Ambler

Job Title: Administrator Joined: 2015

Sandra Ambler has worked at The Sycamores for six years.


She is the first friendly face you see when you visit the Wakefield care home.


The Sycamores is a busy care home, and the admin side is dealt with efficiently and quickly by Sandra, who enjoys her job. Every resident and family member will talk to Sandra at some point, who attempts to organise and sort out any issues, quickly.


Sandra is so appreciated that she recently won the Burlington Care Award for Support Staff of the Year, and it's clear that she deserved it.


Sandra loves her job and enjoys the fact that every day is different.


Outside work, Sandra is a keen baker and cake decorator and is regularly booked up by family and close friends. These works of art are beautiful and a world away from admin!

Daniel

Daniel Collins

Job Title: Senior Carer Joined: 2016

Daniel joined Social Care straight from College aged 16 working within the kitchens and housekeeping .
Aged 18 Daniel was offered a position within the Care team and has grown within the role to position of Senior Carer. A position he has held for the last 2.5 yrs
Daniel's ultimate goal is Nursing and he is studying towards his Nursing qualifications.
Daniel believes that Caring for the older generation is a vocation and not just a job and loves being part of the Sycamores family where residents and colleagues all support each other , "Its like being part of an extended family ".
