My mother had superior care. She was encouraged to eat and also to get out of bed into a chair. The staff were very caring.

We needed urgent respite for Mum at short notice on a weekend. The duty manager was very helpful and understanding visited Mum at her home to assess her needs before admitting her with a few hours of our initial contact. On arrival, Mum's room had been prepared for us on our arrival. All the staff and
manager were very friendly and very supportive during Mums short stay. The care provided was excellent, Mum was made very welcome and settled in very quickly. I would not hesitate in recommending Edmund House and would happily let Mum stay there if necessary on a longer term.
Reply from Gabriella Mills, Customer Adviser at Edmund House Care HomeThank you for your review. We are pleased to hear that your needs and your Mum's were accommodated on such short notice. We are glad that you both have had a positive, welcoming experience with Edmund House and that you would be happy to visit again. Your comments are appreciated and will be shared with the home's manager. The Bupa Customer Care Team.

Throughout my mother's stay, I found the overall care very good. The staff were friendly and treated my mother with dignity and respect.
She suffered from dementia and at times, was very challenging, however, the staff displayed patience and kindness towards her up to and including her final days.
The only negative comment I have is that occasionally the unit (The Haven) did not appear adequately staffed, which led to requests being forgotten.

I would like to make a special mention to the recent Valentines Party the residents and visitors had in the Chiltern lounge on February 14th. The organisation was first class and the afternoon tea which followed was first class. Everyone enjoyed the party very much, thanks to all the staff who supervised
it. Well done to all.

Recently our Mother passed away in the care of Edmund House. It is extremely difficult for us to express our appreciation for the care, attention and most importantly the love shown to her. Visiting the home had become part of our lives and feel not only the loss of Mum but have lost more family with
the wonderful staff, friends and residents we have made.

I would like to praise one of your staff who is the senior housekeeper. On two occasions recently when on her way home she stayed back 30 minutes each time to assist me in cleaning, washing and redressing my mother who is totally incontinent and not only made a mess of herself but also the bathroom
and her clothes. She helped because the rest of the staff were engaged in feeding other residents. This is not unusual for her to do duties that are not in her profile for all residents.
Reply from Jayne Duck, Customer services administrator at Edmund House Care HomeThank you for your review and such kind words about our staff. It is so lovely to know that our staff are appreciated and to get such nice feedback about them.

My mother has been in this care home for 3 years. In March, another male resident walked into her room and grabbed her arm. At 97 unable to raise the alarm (she doesn't know how to use the buzzer) she was very distressed. As soon as the carers had sorted it out, the senior carer promptly rang me and
told me what had happened and kept looking in on her, checking she had settled.
My only concern is although this gentleman is obviously ill, how do you protect the vulnerable? I feel if the staff had less red tape, they could do their job more efficiently, they work very hard.
Reply from Emily Wilson, Customer Service Administrator at Edmund House Care HomeThank you for your feedback. I have been in touch with the home to make them aware of your concerns, just to ensure that this incident has been logged and dealt with properly. The home said that if you have any concerns they will be more than happy to speak with you regarding them. They can promise that they monitor their vulnerable residents closely. Our feedback team are here to support you if you would like to take your worries further. You can contact them on 0113 381 6293 or at feedback@bupa.com so they can discuss and investigate your feedback with you. We appreciate that this is a serious matter, and our residents' health and wellbeing is our absolute priority. The Bupa Customer Care Team.

Care home is a "care" home. Rooms clean, all en-suite, residents laundry is exceptional. Food and choice is wonderful. Residents treated with respect and dignity. Staff are lovely but unable to spend much time with residents. Only one complaint, feel that staff appear to swamped with paperwork. Have
no time to spend with residents when sometimes all they want is a chat, appear to be always filling forms in/and very very busy.

I have been in Edmund House since August 2015. I am very happy here. The care and attention I receive is always very good and I have no complaints. The food I receive is varied and to my liking. There is a choice at all meals. The staff are very friendly and caring and attend to all my needs.

Having struggled for a while with GP's etc to make them understand my family's and my wishes with regards to my parent's end of life care, I was pleased when one of the staff in the home took on board what I was saying and helped to sort everything out for my parent.

Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff. Recently my father was taken seriously ill. The staff managed to attend to his needs without jeopardising the welfare and health of other residents. Staff are professional, kind and caring, courteous at all times. My father nor I have ever had cause
to complain. Edmund House is or should be an example to other care homes.

From the minute my Dad went into Edmund House he was treated with dignity and respect. The care given to him was brilliant every single day. Not only was my Dad looked after, every member of the family that was with him day after day was looked after so well. Nothing was too much trouble and all the
staff are so friendly and considerate. Would recommend Edmund House to anyone needing a care home.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.836)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.836) out of 10 for Edmund House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 31 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.836 for Edmund House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (306 Excellents x 5) + (58 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 365 Ratings = 4.836
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Edmund House Care Home is based on 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 56 registered maximum number of service users is 11.2, which has been reached with 31 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have worked for Bupa since 2018 and progressed to Unit Manager in November 2019. I have worked in care since I was 15 and have extensive experience in mental health and dementia care. I’ve previously worked in care homes across Scunthorpe and surrounding areas, within the NHS as a healthcare assistant, and in the community supporting people to remain in their own homes for as long as possible.

I love working in care because it allows me to support people with dignity, respect and choice at the most important time of their lives.

I’m a mum of three children aged 24, 22 and 5, and also have a 3-year-old grandson, so life is busy. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my youngest child, and in the evenings I like to relax with a good book.

Looking after people is a privilege. It’s not just about supporting the individual, but also being there for their family and friends during difficult times. I love working in care services because of the people — both my colleagues and those we care for.

I’m married and have a daughter and a son, four grandsons and two granddaughters. Although my dad passed away 10 years ago, my mum is still a huge part of my life, which I feel very grateful for.

My hobbies include NFL American football, and my husband and I attend London games when our teams are playing in the UK. I enjoy spending time with family and friends and going on holiday — Greece is my favourite destination.

My favourite part of working in care is making residents happy, speaking with them about food, and adapting meals to meet their individual needs.

The most rewarding aspect is having an impact on people’s lives with small acts of kindness & building meaningful relationships with residents as well as families.

I was born in London and moved to Scunthorpe in 2003. I completed my Level 2 in childcare, to then go on to help running my dad’s business. I am an extremely family orientated person. My 3 children, parents & siblings are a big part of my life. I believe in making each day count, building memories as we go along! I pride myself in setting a good example for my children.
